What happened to preev.com?

Generally I don't have one eye on bitcoin's price all day long, but I do check it on preev at least once a day and have been relying on the site for years.

It's been down for at least a day and a half, with this image popping up when I go to the site:



I did do a search on the forum for any info about this before starting this thread.  I may have missed it if there's a discussion going on or if it was just mentioned, so please forgive me if that's the case.

Anyone know anything about what's up with preev?

It happened in the past (2018) and after a few days, issue was solved. Maybe preev.com team will resolve it this time.

xhomerx10 also mentioned this like 2-3 days ago on the WO thread. I think they have some issues with their DNS servers and it needs to be fixed manually.
If it was able to be fixed automatically, would have been by now. I really like the simplicity of the website and would love to have it back asap.
I wish they had a developer account registered on this forum?

Preev is down over the last 3 days and as other have mentioned, it has something to do with an expired domain. But then you can alternatively use bitmover's tool to get the average bitcoin price in the meantime while waiting for preev.

Apparently preev.com is down right now.
Do we really need preev.com in order to check the current Bitcoin price? You could just google "Bitcoin" and the Bitcoin price comes up as the first search result. There are hundreds of places where we could check the current BTC price, most of them are cryptocurrency exchange platforms. I used to check preev.com every day in the past few years, but nowadays I don't care that much about the Bitcoin price, mostly because every price drop is very annoying to me. I really hope that preev.com comes back online. This website has sentimental value for me and probably for most Bitcoiners.

I don't use preev, but Google's price ticker for BTC is actually just using Coinbase's price internally (same for all cryptocurrencies). And generally the price on each exchange is going to be different depending on the trading volume, so that's why people are clamoring about preev right now, because that's apparently the reference they have agreed among themselves to use.

I would like to know why do people use preev reference price. Why use preev?  How is that price even created? is it from binance, coinbase, a mix of many exchanges?

Coinmarketcap price is way more transparent and much better IMO.

I never use Preev website and I don't know the real reason of website going down, but it could be developers just stopped maintaining it or certificate expired.
There are many usable alternative options, and one of them looks interesting, similar to calculator and it can show mBTC, bit and sat units, along with BTC.
Coingecko or coinmarketcap websites are also working fine for this purpose.

Anyone know anything about what's up with preev?

Looks like the preev.com site, has relapsed from an old disease, I saw this happen in 2019, like this person said.

It seem that Preev is down for the moment, or their server on Heroku is not yet paid, or transferred their app to Heroku.

But I saw the discussion a few days later, preev.com, is active again after the update, maybe you have to be patient and see in the next two days.


@The Pharmacist, suggestion from @NeuroticFish, I think it makes sense and good to try, if you want to try other alternatives, possible.

Although preev is up and running, I'll also post the link for a converter I use now and then (not mine), especially if I want to check altcoins or the prices in my local fiat currency.

See? Even you, also used this website. "It has a sentimental value". That alone, answers your question on why preev is important to many users here. I too use that other method you provide but what I type is "btc usd".

It will then show me the btc price. I think this trick only works with btc but for other coins, you will still need to visit one of the results that you see in your screen before you see the value of that crypto you are looking for. This is why having something like preev can come in handy. We can just bookmark it in our browser and that can save us a lot of time and effort.

I must admit that I also used preev and I think majority of us at one time in their crypto journey.

Specially in the Currency exchange, preev has been the go rate for their trade. Perhaps people need to find alternatives like CMC or https://bitsusd.com/.

DOH!!  Well, the search function on this forum leaves a lot to be desired, and I don't think you can do forum-wide searches for things but instead have to search in specific boards.  When I searched, it was in Bitcoin Discussion because that's where I thought any mention of preev might occur--and I was wrong, and apparently I created this thread in the wrong section because it got moved to Service Discussion (which I find odd, but I'm a retard).

Definitely not in 2022, but if you've got it bookmarked like I do, it's quicker than doing a Google search or having some other site that displays the price bookmarked, because preev's only purpose is to do just that, and it's a very simple and unbloated site. 

Besides, at this point it's a bit of a nostalgia thing for me.  I've been using the site for years.  And remember, it's only been in the last few years that you could find bitcoin's price shown on tons of financial websites.  That didn't used to be the case.
