Yet another user who think Bitcoin as a free money, if Bitcoin is really easy to earn without any effort, Bitcoin price wouldn't worth $20K/BTC at the current price. But it will become worthless because many people already have it including the poor.

If you're asking huge money to cure your girlfriend sickness, you're better off ask to charity since they're work for that. AFAIK diabetes type 1 can't be cured, but you need to control your blood sugar everyday by eat healthy food and do regular exercise.

Bitcoin cannot fix everything, at least not directly. In my opinion the lone doctor should do more networking. There are good people in this world, you know? Not just greedy and arrogant rich people. You've just got to find them.

Other alternative is to make lab tests. If the doc writes up a paper and it gets a lot of peer reviews it will attract a lot of eyeballs.
If Bitcoin gets adopted as a worldwide currency it will help minimize bad monetary policies and crisis, thus probably producing a more efficient society.

But what I think improve everything is specifically the blockchain technology. We have to transparentize and audit government spending. That's a big tool through which politicians create advantages for them --> dealing with their associates firms, offering subsidies to certain categories of firms and/or people, etc.

Bitcoin doesn't even solve every economical problem, let alone solving things outside of its focus. I know users here, and generally a lot of hype jobs like to talk about how Bitcoin is the next coming of Jesus, but really it isn't. It's a solution to some of the problems that we have with the current money system, but it's by no means a cure of everything. Bitcoin also introduces some problems, which have been discussed at length over recent years.

I'll reiterate, Bitcoin is NOT a perfect system in itself, no matter how many people talk about it being the best thing around. I'd probably still agree with the latter statement, but it doesn't mean it's flawless.

Op, type 1 diabetes does not have a cure yet. It's not a conspiracy against your girlfriend or any people who have it, it's just that human progress takes time, including medicine, and we still have many diseases for which we don't have a cure. Maybe you're right it doesn't stimulate a lot of research into a cure, but I think it's only a part of the problem. And, needless to say, Bitcoin does not fix everything. It gives transparency, it allows a person to be one's own bank, and it is a currency that is not under control of any government. But that's pretty much it. It's money or an investment (depends on who you ask), it's not a magical thing that can solve all problems.

Was talking with my gf who has diabetes type 1. The main reason it hasn't been cured is because maintenance drugs make more money than cures. A lone doctor recently came up with a stem cell cure, but it will take a long time to come to market. A trillion dollar industry was not incentivised to put money into a cure - yet one doctor could do it. How does Bitcoin solve this incentive? Or can it?
Do you really view bitcoin this way? As the solution to all the problems of the world? Perhaps you expect bitcoin to be the cure for Covid-19 too! I mean, your thought and take on this is just out of place but good enough, your in a learning field so, you might want to put your head down and study what it is about bitcoin.

Bitcoin is simply a currency. Its no drug or research lab or a doctor or something. Bitcoin can't cure your girlfriend but the right medication can do that andmaybe, just maybe you could pay the bills with bitcoin should it be accepted at the hospital or pharmacy (Sorry about your grief).

Bitcoin can't fix that because Bitcoin is not designed for that bidding unless of course some Bitcoin whale donate a huge amount for Pharma R&D.  There are other Blockchain technology that is focusing on pharmaceutical stuff such as protein folding and gives incentive to the hash power everyone put in.  There are other kinds of Health related cryptocurrency that gives incentive if you participate but I don't know if it can helps you with financing your gf's treatment.

To those who are not familiar with protein folding you can check this article[1] for a detailed information.

There are blockchain project that supports protein folding and gives incentives to its participants.
Example:
FoldingCoin
CureCoin

This blockchain project had been around for years now.

There is also some health-related company that uses cryptocurrency[2] as incentives for their participants.
