I don't trust 3rd party options.
Understandable.
In that case, you can use my simple bot which is built on python: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5146905

The code is very easy to read(even if you don't know python). It does its intended work except for one drawback: It may repeat the notification a couple of times. This can be easily fixed if you know python.
I may update it later this week.

It requires very little resource to run(if your machine can run python and is connected to the internet then it will work). If you have any useless raspberry pi lying around, or you can run it in the background 24x7 on your android phone with termux.

Can this work with Phone?

If your phone runs on Android, then yes.

Install termux, install required python packages(as mentioned in my post), enable wake lock on termux to keep it running in background.

I will update the script later this week to make it more efficient(when I get some free time) and post a tutorial on how to run it on android 24x7.

I have been in Bitcointalk forum for a year and a half(+/-) now. And one thing I find very disappointing that you won't get any notifications on who replied you on your posts/replies.
Like other social media, for example, they show you the notification for who and where the reply is made.

I think the forum is better like this simply because we have a kot of new users creating account everyday and only few have the intention to stay on the forum, there's a notify me botton on every thread whereby you can get notified on mentions aside from the telegram bot notifier, and to me i will prefer the way the forum is like that, some may not want to be bugged by forum's tag and this has been made a thing of choice, if you want it then you get it, unlike other social media where you get continuous inflow of notifications and cant be stopped.

I mentioned it on the post already, and it's not useful for many reasons. It will spam your notification with every unrelated replies.
Although to date I haven't tried LoyceV or Tryninja notification bot, but I wouldn't say it's useless. You'll benefit from using bot notification about who quote your posts or mentioned you in theirs post, but you'll also be able to quickly find out that you've gained additional merit from other users.

it's not like that! it's just I can't explain it to you.. the purpose of the post was to creat attention to the main fact of notifications and add it officially in forum... if your bot claims and deliver as you said then i should give it a try for sure
You should be able to express your opinion freely as to whether your proposal is worth considering or not, but you don't and you're too convoluted.

Currently the forum only send you notification via email if you enable the notification feature to [notify me of replies] or notify me of new replies in a topic. Another notification you get is that when someone send pm, it all goes to your forum account email. If you expect everything to be effective, then you should be able to wait a few years from now.

There are a few forum notification that I know of:

  • Pm notification
  • Notification new reply to topic
  • Board notification
  • Notify me of replies

You can also set your own notification preferences: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=3318288;sa=notification
3318288 is your profile id, For other users it must be an error: You are not permitted to modify profile settings.

and I don't want to use other's..
I'll wait for when it's officially added on forum.
Yeah good luck with that. It should be added soon. Mandatory KYC is coming in late August and after that it's on-forum notifications. (sarcasm detected)

The reasons why you got hacked are not known to me, but it was 99% a fault of your own. You might want to consider your overall security and computer proficiency. LoyceV's bot, on the other hand, can't hack you in any way. You are not feeding it with any of your private data like passwords, not does it request any permissions, scripts, downloads, or installs of anything. LoyceV can probably see the IP addresses who connect to his server, but you can always use a VPN or TOR when you browse the forum and you will be fine. Actually, the notification bot doesn't work over TOR, does it @LoyceV?

I understand the requests (you are not the first one) for an official notifications feature, but since we luckily have alternatives for that, I don't consider it as an urgent matter and theymos obviously doesn't either. I am not even sure if it can work on this version of the forum software, which is heavily modified already.

Any server can see IP-addresses of connecting users. All I can tell you is that I don't care about IP logs (other than using it to stop very aggressive scraping bots). Feel free to access my notifications on Tor browser, I'm not restricting Tor and there isn't even an annoying Captcha. But just as I don't care about IPs, I also don't care if OP doesn't want to use it Smiley That's fine Smiley It would be a waste though to reject it for the wrong reasons: if you think a HTML page can hack your computer, you should probably not use the internet at all.

That's something I also wanted to recommend, but never actually did. I've been quoted quite a few times, but never actually got to see it until it was too late. It'd be great if such a feature was implemented, because it's difficult to keep up with so many topics on the forum. Other users recommended 3rd party services, but I'd rather not use them.

I am very surprised at the amount of paranoia about using any "third" party service. I'm also very curious about what kind of trouble a notification bot can cause.
I remember a similar disclaimer, and there was a discussion about a website that uses google font (hosted on Google servers), also very surprising for me.

how many active, useful services are there that do not at any moment rely on any third-party service?

Come on, use your imagination Cheesy A notification bot in combination with a smart watch gives me access to your arm:
I suddenly feel the urge to change the title on all posts in one of my topics to do this:
Code:
You received 1 merit from LoyceV for Looking at your hairy arm.
Cheesy
This has to be done.
The awesomeness in the small things.
You also have to think that I glance at my wristband in mostly inappropriate situation as: business meetings, family gathering, social event. Making me giggle looking at my wristband could spark interest in what I read, hence forcing my improvisation in creative excuses!

Sadly, Loyce never thought it would be an epic enough modification so actually to do it for real.

But yes, I never had the feeling using TryNinja notification bot + a smart band could hinder my security on the forum.
But maybe I am not paranoid enough.
