A nice gesture, but if they already wanted to record that moment for history in some way, they could have made a slightly larger plaque for the reason that it would be more visible and that it would be easier for people to take pictures with it. That place obviously has an important place in the history of Bitcoin, and I believe that many people would be very happy to come visit and try the famous pizza in the pizzeria that sold the 2 most expensive pizzas in the world ever.

I think we all agree that it would be nice if they added a little more detail, because the average visitor probably won't know what it's about. That pizzeria could make much better use of the event for promotional purposes, although they may be doing well without it, given that fast food has a cult status in the US, although the rest of the world is not far behind.

Hopefully this will occur to them or someone who can get it done, A bigger one maybe like a sculpture outside perhaps alongside this portable one inside the store will ensure that everyone in Jacksonville recognises Papa John's store as a historic site for bitcoin.

The more persons that get to see it, will get to know more about the famous pizza story and understand that there is a strong culture and history behind bitcoin. Those who are not bitcoin hodlers or hodl no form of crypto will develop an interest from constantly seeing this sculpture, plus those with twisted opinions on the credibility of bitcoins will see that they have been around for a while now.

True. But currently, Bitcoin is still mostly a scam/fad to a lot of people; so I'm not sure if Papa John's wants to give too much attention to the plaque(hence somewhat affiliation with Bitcoin).

Nice to see this great achievement because many people have this opportunity in 2010 but they missed use it in other things but papa John's used it wisely on Bitcoin Pizzas in 2010 that is making people to admired the history. It showed there was a great joy among the teams that was part of the business because everybody in the picture was so filled with happiness, that is Bitcoin can do so many things to humanity.

I don't think it'll ever stop being a scam, a fad, a ponzi - a malicious currency generally - for some people. Acknowledging the benefits of bitcoin requires a strong level of discipline, to realize the broken parts of the current monetary system. It ain't easy to make such hard acceptances.

Especially when nearly the entire world is ruled by politicians, economists, bankers etc., who're supporters of a theory that goes completely against bitcoin; that is, Keynesianism.

However, I'm on same page with mk4 here: this matters more for bitcoiners than to Papa John's; they've accepted it because, hey, a bit more publicity never hurts, but at the end of the day they're not that much into bitcoin, so, meh.

That is quite cool and creative, I hope eventually someone will donate enough to get a more complex plaque to display together with this one.
I have something in mind like a bronze/wooden plaque with a bitcoin engraved on it and a similar description this one has.

They should also include the hash of the trasaccion which made the purchase of the pizzas possible.

That's pretty awesome.  I hadn't heard anything about this before.  Thank you for sharing.  It seems like a pretty awesome thing to be able to claim.  If I owned that store, I'd be trying to make sure that everyone knew it was the home of the first Bitcoin purchase.  Papa John's should be running specials and they should be accepting BTC at the store as well as having an ATM machine and custom branding to reflect it.  Why not go all out?  While the plaque is nice, I feel like Papa John's is missing out on an opportunity to use this historical happening to their advertising advantage.  I bet some Bitcoiners would travel pretty far to see this store if it were done up right.

And unless he got back right away and bought some more bitcoins to recover that loss, literally the same day, then he would be out a lot of money. Early birds do not realize the bigness of a project they are in, because it is rarely that big after a decade.

Nah, he got those Bitcoins mining in the early days, so he didn't pay directly (other than electricity). In his words it was "Free Pizza".

Also, it was not all the bitcoins he had, so it's all good. Plus, he only paid the market value of the pizzas, maybe a bit more, but something like twenty dollars or so in Bitcoin. He didn't pay 200 million for the pizzas, that's just nonsense.

By your logic, every single purchase you've done in your life after 2009 was a colossal waste of money because you could have bought Bitcoin instead.

As most users commented it is much needed thing and Papa John's have done it. These incidents will give Laszlo Hanyecz the credit of giving value to bitcoin. Maybe he's having a normal life, but his act have changed many users lives and he'll be remembered throughout. Maybe adding some pizza to the menu with the name of Laszlo Hanyecz will add value. Another thing I wish Laszlo Hanyecz have his own pizza store with bitcoin acceptance which can again be a turning in his life.

It's fun to reminisce about the historic moment of Bitcoin in the past. I should say it was a greatest step in forming Bitcoin as the giant and top crypto in the world of crypto currency.

I believe after 100 years, Laszlo Hanyecz's "10,000 Bitcoin Pizza Moment" will be written in history books as something like Alexander Graham Bell's first telephone call made in March 10, 1876, or the Wright Brothers' first controlled flight in a "modern" aircraft in December 17, 1903. We are living under ANOTHER time of ANOTHER fundamental change in human society.

It is now already part of history, although it is not exactly something that is known outside the community that is gathered around Bitcoin. Those who do know about this information often criticize Laszlo because he spent so many Bitcoins on only 2 pizzas, although they do not understand that people mined BTC with personal computers and the reward per block was as much as 50 BTC at that time.

Laszlo, unlike most people today, understood why Bitcoin was created, and he showed it with his example.
