"...Thanks to the unending economic symptoms of the pandemic and 2022's inflation double-punch, average beef prices are currently about twice what they were in 2019. Add in the deepening widespread drought, a shortage of hay and feed, skyrocketing prices, transport costs, and various other metrics, some Southwest Oklahoma beef producers suggest cheap ground beef could eventually top $50 per pound...."

Average American families can afford about a thimble full of hamburger at that price. Let's sit the family down to a quarter thimble of meat this meal. LOL.

For those who are unwilling to raise chickens or rabbits at home, for a little meat now and again, beans are just as good a source of protein.

Supply and demand. Bye, bye Oklahoma ranchers.

i don't think that this price increase will create a crisis in America because beef is not a staple there, but still this price increase will have an impact on the local economy because of course people's consumption of beef will decrease. hopefully beef prices there can stabilize again.

Wait till global famine hits and see how quickly countries begin to hoard food and stop food exports. Can't control the weather, but you can control transport costs and make harvesting cheaper. This isn't an issue in the NA region -- any country with high energy costs are going to not be able to afford food soon if the trends keep up. Meat's going to be a luxury item.

The land is still there, same as before. The ocean is full of water, which can be desalinized. We're a long way from not being able to grow enough food, meat or otherwise.

Cool

And how much energy is required to desalinized ocean water?

The issue isn't just food supply shortages. It's distribution. The western world is largely obese, wastes a fair portion of the food that it produces and yet tens of thousands can still die from famine every day. If the energy costs associated with distribution goes up then so do food prices. Poor countries are the first to suffer famines. Developed countries have enough funds to to cover the higher food costs so they'll be fine, hopefully.

America's national dish is the hamburger. Once it becomes unaffordable, people are inclined to take notice.

Ocean rain isn't salty. It's fresh.

Obese people will last longer without food if they can keep from going into shock.

Supply chains  that are problemsome are cause to be such by greedy people trying to control the rest of us.
