I bought some rx580 graphic cards from China for 120$ each and I successfully build my first rig, thanks to YouTube video it's not that hard like I've imagined, after placing the order my mind is plagued with thoughts of messing things up

https://i.imgur.com/dRvhrPN.jpeg

The only issue I am having now is the hashrate number, I am getting 27MH from the graphic cards each and a friend rx580 rig is getting 31MH, any ideas of what I can do next? I am running HiveOS.

Not much you can do,it depends on the memory they have the cards, there are four types for this cards,Samsung which is the best and does easily that 31 Mhsh, than there is Micron,Elpida and Hynix which can or cannot do that, the most stubborn one is Hynix which is well known to not respond as better as Samsung memory to the overclocking and under-volt that we do.

In Windows you can see which type of memory you have by installing GPU-Z,of course Linux has its counterpart which is easily searched in google.I believe you to have the Hynix memory or not the best overclock and under-volt,check the most well known flight sheet that is widely used for your cards in HiveOS and use one of them, from the community I mean.

I have Hynix rx580 that give me 25MH out of the box but little OC brings me up to 30MH you should try lifting the mem clock a bit by bit to get 29MH or 30MH.

It all depends on your memory type. I have 140+ RX580 running right now. The micron are the best with 33,5MH. SK Hynix and Samsung are between 30 - 32MH. i don't have Elpida.
Check your memory straps. You can try using amdmemtweak --REF 20 in the advanced config box, try 20 or 30. Some cards accept up to 240. wich will increase your hashes significantly.
You can also play with the core and memory state to lower your power consumption a bit.

I remember my first rig, it was a frankestein rig hahaha, your rig is well organized.
I think you paid a reasonable price

About the hashrate, don't take too seriously about 31mhs or even 30mhs because it's not guaranteed to achieve.
Every card has their own hashrate, memory type, chiplet, brand, overclock...everything will influence the result.
But it's your first rig and you will probably refine your overclock with time, just watch some youtube videos, try little by little to increase clock, adjust the voltage and I'm sure you can extract the maximum of your cards.
If you have more questions about overclock you can ask here.

Show your settings in Hive OS.
27 megahash is not a bad result for a beginner, because some of my rx580 video cards had problems with overclocking after 27 megahash, and the mining farm crashed.
You can try to flash the BIOS by changing some timings. There is a lot of information about this on YouTube or use the miner settings to increase the hashrate.

Yes it varies per card. Some cards are worse memory and some GPUs have a worse ASIC quality % and they can't clock as high. You can try and force it to 31MH/s however you will run into hardware errors and it'll keep freezing on you. Eventually it'll freeze in the middle of the night and you will lose all profits on 8 GPUs just because you overclocked it too much.

Good quality looking rig, reminds me of my old RX 570 rigs. Those were the fun days.

I like the rig it will cool well. How are the temps? Do you stay at a good number for the cards.

What is the psu?

Could you screen shot hiveOS so we can see readout.

Can you show the mobo and psu.

Lastly how are you cooling room 8 cards are close to 1200 watts the room must be pretty warm.

Congratulations on your first rig build as it looks like a great one!  You seem to have gotten a good deal on the hardware and got it running, so you're off to a great start.  I hope this sparks something in you to keep going.  If you can make it through the downturn as a miner, you will certainly emerge stronger on the other side.  Good luck with maintaining the heat!

Why did I feel like 120$ per 580 is still high? Am I getting more greedy this days or just the right feeling? A rx580 gpu should be bought at 100$ or less, anything over 100$ is high but you did a great job building this rig yourself.

1) My Temp never exceed 60°C in a very hot weather, I placed the mining rig very close to my window and there are trees in my compound with cool breeze doing it's thing. I have also managed to get 29MH+ after few trials.

https://i.imgur.com/LHES8vy.jpg

2) I am using a B250 motherboard and a Daylead 1600 watt PSU

The temp isn't bad at all as there is good breeze in my compound, it do seize here and there but it helps and I make sure the rig is set close to window, no problem so far.

These rates are ok for samsung memory. The clocks are good to. Maybe cclock is a little to low. Did you put in some custom memory straps? Or a BIOS mod?

Good settings and you're lucky with your memory. Memory can be increased to 2150-2200, but this may affect the stability of the work. If the mining farm is stable, then I would not change anything. Some miners increase the memory to 2250 and get almost 32 megahash, but this is probably just for showing off. There will be no stability with these settings.

Yes op you are doing pretty good for a first build.
I am more of a fan of slotted boards not riser boards, but you made a very nice riser build.
Leave it alone and just stack your coins.
I do suggest that you should be ready to switch to etc or ethW come the merge.
The merge will be here soon maybe sept 12-14 and it will bring a lot of change if it does come.
Do not do a new build until after the merge and we learn exactly how it affects us miners.
In the meantime enjoy the build.

Nice build OP, unlike I that killed two graphic cards when I tried building my first ever mining rig, I messed up and spent double money to get extra graphic cards again, ruined a motherboard too, enjoy your mining rig.

What makes slotted motherboards better than those with riser ports only? I think it's not about the performance but the less tweaking headache that risers gives users compare to slotted motherboard, or there is more that I don't know? I will like to learn.

I knew about the Merge before building this one but that's just one out of three that I planned to build so the rest will be after the merge, if profits get worsen I except graphic card price to fall more, am I right on this one? That's what I heard.

I have 14 rigs from minerdude

2 of these

https://minerdude.com/product/minerdude-x8ultra-plus/

2 of these

https://minerdude.com/product/minerdude-x12-xtreme-12-gpu-smart-mining-rig-200-277v-only/

10 of these

https://minerdude.com/product/x12012022/

they work well in my warehouse

they cool well

they are easy to clean

they also take up very little space

In my ware house mine they are a better choice than riser builds.

You're right it's not about performance, it's about convenience and personal preference. A riserless motherboard, by definition, doesn't use
risers so there are fewer potential points of failure. On the other hand the slot spacing is fixed so you can't adjust for different card widths.

PS. new motherboards seem to have traded in PCIe slots for more m.2, so m.2 to 4x PCIe/USB splitters are going to become popular for mining.
USB connector but PCIe protocol, of course.

What makes slotted motherboards better than those with riser ports only? I think it's not about the performance but the less tweaking headache that risers gives users compare to slotted motherboard, or there is more that I don't know? I will like to learn.

I have too many failure with risers in a week, one gpu will become invisible in hiveOS after two days of mining none stop, I am getting tired of risers and I have make up my mind to upgrade to riserless motherboard.

Your problem is with the raiser supplier, not the raisers. The raiser is not such a complex detail that it has many problems. Raisers with regular motherboards are cheaper than dedicated mining motherboards without raisers. And for premium boards without raisers, expensive cases are needed.
