Closed case with cooling fans do the job better than open frames, @philipma1957 should be able to help you out on this since he use closed cases more than open frame I guess, he always talk about how close case are better at cooling than other.

I have to disagree. It's all about physics, the more air you can move the better the cooling. An enclosed case restricts airflow and
requires more assistance from fans and even ducting. It also depends on the ventilation in the room.

@OP: BTW I like the setup you have with the alternately facing GPUs, looks very efficient.

I'm also on team open-frame.  Those test cases or cheap hanging setups will keep heat from building up around the card, which can happen in enclosed cases.  Things like fans dying can also be catastrophic for GPUs stuck in a hot case.  The only time I'd think enclosed cases would be better is if you were trying to keep the room they were in cool and remove the heat with special ducting or something.

If you have 15x 12 card closed cases you can squeeze them in a tight spot.

Do I prefer open over closed yeah they are cheap and fun to build. But they don't allow for as many cards in a tight spot as the 12 card cases do. Also the 8 card 3090 cases are very nice.

If you are under 20 cards there are nice 8 card slot boards. you can buy 3 of them do 6+7+7= 20 cards

https://www.ebay.com/itm/125214309638?

3 boards for 44.89 each

get 3 psus

get 3 ram sticks

get 3 usb sticks

use smos

and you are done.

easy peasy builds.

Between mining frame and closed cases which one cools graphic cards the most? Also how many rig is safe to put in a room size place? Rigs with 8 gpu per case.
What is the area of the room?
I had about 30 video cards in a 24 square meter room in open cases.
Do not rush to spend money on closed cases if you do not have hot video cards. Maybe better ventilation. Heating problems only in summer, in winter, spring and autumn, ventilation is not required.

Yeah I only have one rig right now I am asking this because I plan on building more rigs after the merge, I thought more rigs in a room results to more heats been generated? But you are right the result might be good with open frame because the room I am using is like a breeze channel, air flow is very good there.

You are new and it is exciting to get into mining. don't worry about the new builds coming enjoy this one fr a bit of time.

Take some room temp readings with the rig off and the rig on.

room's have a knee for overheating.

lets say if it is 25c or 77f outside temp

you are running 1000 watt gear.

the room stays at 27c or 80f

add a 500 watt unit and the room gets hot 37c 98f

like a sharp rise which you figure would not happen since the first 1000 watts just moved rooms temps a little why did the 500 more watts make the room really hot.

could be the windows and draft pull 970 watts of heat out so first 1000 watts are not a problem but add just 500 and it is a problem.

look at this video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0aGRhEmZaO8

and this one

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AwLQChqwmX4

we added the swamp cooler from hessaire room was too hot we added the 30 inch roof vent and room really cooled off

we ran 50kwatts of gear outside temp was 101f the room peaked at 102f right under the 30 inch vent.

50kwatts is around 90,000 btus or 32 of these

The more gears you have the more heats you will have to deal with, I have other 4 different rigs with 3060ti and 2060s and I use only rechargeable table fans to get rid of the heat, it works very well for me so far without consuming extra power.

Open-frame is cheaper, anyone can build a open-frame; it easily be assembled with PVC or wood using the width x length of the motherboard. The PSU can be below it, illustrating a type of oil rig structure conception.

Enclosed-frame can be crafted with wood, with an opening on the side of it just big enough for the intake wall-fan/filter, a door big enough for troubleshooting, and slits for the GPUs. Inside and under the GPU slits are cheap aluminum shelve mounts or 2x4s that allow the GPU risers to rest/mount. 2 or 3 more custom mounts for the PSU and the motherboard to operate. Any blower type GPU would be idle for this build. Also, an exhaust fan would mount above the intake wall fan or direct the hot air inside the house, building, fish tank, etc.

Management of the heat is the key. In the summer getting the heat out of the space is the most important thing to do.

I think that if the miner bought expensive hot video cards that require good cooling, then he is better off buying a proven closed case. It is not so easy to make it yourself from wood and other spare parts, and it can take a lot of time. It is better to spend it on mining.

I think it's also a bit of a right of passage to mine with the minimal equipment possible.  Before you even go open frame vs enclosed case, try this...  Buy the parts to make a PC without a case or frame...  Build the PC and hang the GPUs from something (I used to use a dish drying rack).  Then you can see that a case isn't even necessary to mine with.  I used to even run a massive liquid cooled setup with several GPUs tied together in a loop from different PCs back in the day.  My office looked like a science experiment.  It was pretty awesome.

If you've never slapped together a PC without a frame and used twisty ties to hang GPUs from dish drying racks, are you even a crypto miner?

I guess that's the traditional miner path. I wonder if these innovators had that mindset;
