Hi I want to mine BTC with GPU (CUDA), does anyone recommend a miner not nicehash betterhash or those bloated ones I don't really want a big GUI just looking for something to connect with a pool on command line. I have been trying to get ccminer working but getting this error

GPU #0: result for 08742f4e does not validate on CPU!

Do people still use ccminer? Would also prefer to cut out all the crap for the other coins to reduce compile time but was having trouble when deleting it from the makefile so I have kept it in for now.

Is it hard to do your own what would you have to do send rpc commands to a stratum pool to receive the work and execute it on the gpu or something does anyone know of good documentation I was reading stratums but it wasn't explicit about using it for bitcoin.

thanks if anyone has suggestions or material to read Smiley
It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

you can not directly mine btc with a gpu.

you need to point a gpu to nicehash

mine eth or etc and convert the coins mined to btc.

a gpu will do maybe 1gh and use 200 watts

a usb stick from sidehack will do 300gh and use 10-15 watts

basically 6000x better than direct gpu mining of btc

it is what it is so go to nicehash and mine eth or etc and convert to btc

or trade the gpu for a usb stick from sidehack

yea i was mining eth on it but switching to pos

really why is sha256 just not suited well for the gpu arch compared to Ethash? Is there that many more btc miners to make it that difficult? Seems like there is a lot of eth miners I would assume it would have the same issues

ahhh just saw the rest of your answer thanks I didnt know that

It's not that sha256 is not suited for GPU's - it's that the algo is very easily implemented in 'hard wired' ASIC's without any of the other circuits that a GPU has in it. Just 1 of the chips used in Sidehacks Compac-F has 8k SHA256 cores in it. Compare that to how many cores (spread over several chips) even a top-end GPU has...

Current BTC hash rate is several 100's of ExaH/s so yes, its difficulty is *very* high.

Actually, compact F can mine other sha256 coins like you said shitcoin but you can mine Bitcoin directly to the pool and build more than 40+ of them and make $1+ a day with low power compared to mining with GPU. You can have a more compact F if you are looking for profit or only have it for a lottery. The only problem is that the price is a bit expensive compared to buying used s9 miner.

I hope that you are not spreading any links you can just edit your old post and merge them instead of constantly posting.

And another thing is that the official thread of this Compac F can be found here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1764803.0

Better just mine some alt/ shitcoin and convert them into BTC.

I'm doing that with NiceHash.

Of course you can try to play with solo mining, I once tried mining on solo.ckpool.org but I gave up this idea, it's easier to buy a few tickets for some rounds and try my luck in finding a block in a fold that @willi9974 organizes here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5381245.0 or English here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5237323.2860 perhaps luck will smile

I'm glad that you went on to explain that it is possible to mine bitcoins with a GPU.  It always bugs me when people say it isn't possible, when it most definitely is.  Is it profitable?  That's a whole other story.  Even if BTC went to a million it would probably be a losing venture to mine with a GPU.  If you're feeling like the luckiest man on earth, you could solo mine BTC with a GPU and hope to hit a block.  If you were able to beat the odds and make it happen, you'd be legendary.  I'm sure you'd be much better off buying lottery tickets though.

You can still actually get blocks in Bitcoin testnet by solo mining with a GPU as the difficulty resets to 1 after 20 minutes with no new blocks. More details here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5415861.0

Yes, however by design the coins have ZERO monetary value. Purchase and sale of them is strongly discouraged as Testnet and its coins are for testing software -- not making money... Mining them and holding them is also pretty pointless because the Testnet chain is periodically forked to render previously mined Testnet coins unusable. After a development project is over it is expected that all Testnet coins mined during testing are to be donated back to the Faucets.
