sourcebased on the news I heard, patriarchy in Iran is the worst in the world, the death of a woman this time has made the demonstration against compulsory hijab bigger. I don't know if the Iranian women's demonstration this time will succeed in making them free. I personally reject all forms of patriarchy, women are not slaves, women are partners...

I find it absolutely sickening that during all this outrage, which was sparked after the death of a 22-year old woman, there are still men supporting the wear of the hijab and being against women who want to wear whatever they want. I've seen videos of men harassing women for this reason. Personally, I'm an atheist and completely against any religion. To this day, I cannot understand why people blindly stick to religion even though it infringes on your freedom and rights. Christianity isn't much better, but Islam shows way worse values for women or people perceived as different. Not to mention that women were not permitted to obtain a driver's license in Saudi Arabia. I've seen a pattern in many Islamic countries encroaching on other people's freedoms, freedoms that the west takes for granted.

I am surprised but also glad to see that not all Iranians accept the current theocratic regime in which everything is subject to sanction by a few religious leaders that pretend to be in the sole possession of truth. I cannot help but to think that these protests are not only against how women are treated and considered as second class and made into robots, but also due to the general economic situation of the country.

This is the patriarchy that exists in all Islamic regimes. Saudi Arabia is slightly more "progressive," allowing women the basic luxuries like not wearing a hijab without arrest. Islam is extremely restrictive. For all the grief Christianity gets, it's much more adherent to modern values than Islam is. I am surprised but also glad to see that not all Iranians accept the current theocratic regime in which everything is subject to sanction by a few religious leaders that pretend to be in the sole possession of truth. Even if some Iranians resist, it's not enough. https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2017/08/09/muslims-and-islam-key-findings-in-the-u-s-and-around-the-world/Seeing how many muslim dominated countries support sharia law is appalling. Iran won't even allow pollsters so we don't have some of the data for them. Goes without saying they support sharia.

just want to add that I watched a video a few days ago where it says that the Iranian government is planning on cutting internet connections in parts of Iran in an attempt to silence people from spreading what's happening. it's also kind of sad that I saw a video of a Muslim woman more concerned about the burning of the hijab than what is happening to women in Iran.

Seeing the increasing number of demonstrations taking place in Iran, I can see that the majority of the people there (especially women) are fed up with the orthodox rules, women need to feel beautiful and free with their own choices. Women should be wives, and treated with respect as the weaker partner. you must be a good husband just want to add that I watched a video a few days ago where it says that the Iranian government is planning on cutting internet connections in parts of Iran in an attempt to silence people from spreading what's happening.

Looks like the Iranian government has acted like a dictatorial country that they want to cut off the internet as they please.

Iran has become a country that has a patriarchal constitution, laws and regulations since the ascension of Ayatollah Khomieni. women are forced to dress, lose their contribution in social and government fields. patriarchal restrictions only apply to women, according to sources I read, there are actually many phenomena of similar cases in Iran. however, it was this case that caused such a strong reaction that various protests emerged.
I don't understand why patriarchal culture still exists in this era. Personally, I denounce the actions taken by the moral police in Iran which persecute young women just for allegedly disobeying the country's hijab regulations. This is very sad.

Iran represents one of the ancient religious dictatorships. And this dictatorship derives its authority by divine order, and it must preserve its traditions. In the monotheistic religions, women were greatly despised and were attacked in various ways only to satisfy the whims of the males who succeeded in sanctifying these practices. Almost all of us remember the scene of the sisters in the churches whose dress is not much different from that of women in Iran and Afghanistan. In Judaism, women are prohibited from having a role in places of worship, and they have no rights in a situation worse than what women go through in Islam. Unfortunately, this is not the first incident in which women are attacked in the name of morals and religion in an Islamic country. I invite you all to watch the movie "The Stoning of Soraya", which is inspired by a true story that also happened in Iran. The victim was a woman, as usual, everyone conspired against because religion made her a weak being. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1277737/

Yes, women shouldn't be forced to wear certain clothes. In my opinion, a country must undergo changes internally before it can undergo external changes. A majority of Iranian reformists are committed to ending the mandatory Islamic dress code for women that has been in effect since 1983, which is some satisfying news.
In September 16, Mahsa Amini, a 22-year-old Kurdish woman, died while in the custody of Iranian morality police charged with enforcing the code. After Amini's death, protests erupted, resulting in many deaths and injuries. As everyone has a right to live in his own way, I don't call it protest.

Mahsa Amini's entourage was suddenly confronted by the moral police, as reported by Sky News, Sunday (25/9/2022). “When they saw Mahsa and the others, they called her hijab incorrect. Ashkan tries to explain to them that they are not in their hometown, and are foreigners in Tehran, so please consider that and beg not to be taken away," said Mortezaei. “Police officers sprayed pepper on Ashkan's face and forced Mahsa into the van and took him to the moral police station.” Arriving at the police station, Mahsa Amini started to lose her sight and fainted. He was then rushed to the hospital. “There are reports from Kasra hospital (in Tehran) saying effectively by the time he reached the hospital he was already dead from a medical point of view. He suffered a concussion from a blow to the head." Reportedly the victims of this demonstration have more than 35 people, international participation is really needed in the struggle of women there. things related to women are often not given much attention because the concept of patriarchy is still the mindset of the majority, especially those who come from the middle east. their struggle is very noble imo because they fight for freedom, not food.

I honestly haven't anyone in western world supporting forced hijab. I have heard people supporting freedom to wear them if one chooses. Which i can understand because i don't want to kink shame people. I mean it could be a sex thing for all i know. But religion is just another form of oppressing women, some religions are just pretty hardcore with it. Misogyny lives in western society as well in different forms, but all it takes is some ridiculous new justification for it and we would get to hardcore stone age rules with it again. Religion is just excuse and one more weapon to use. It's as efficient as totalitarian dictatorships.

I am atheist too, but saying that christianity or islam is something is kinda misleading as there are like 30k different sects in christianity and quite few in Islam as well, (Mainly Sunni and Shia). And there are very different kind of leaderships that change over time and some are more extreme then others, like under taliban or isis things got way weirder then they ever had been before. And like in Christianity or any other religion there are people who don't take it seriously. They have just raised into that culture.

You're right, not everything is the same. However, most cases of human oppression and lack of freedom and rights for women or anyone who is different than the so-called "normal" (homosexuals, transgenders, you name it) are found in Islamic or Arab countries. Calling the hijab a religious thing and forcing it upon women is unacceptable. Even if it wasn't mandatory, I still wouldn't get why women would want to wear such a thing under the scorching sun. I find the whole ordeal degrading to women, and those who support human degradation in the name of their god make me sick to my stomach.

Yep, this is true, i no-one disagrees. And Russia or other dictatures aren't really far from this either. They just need to use other arguments to justify oppression towards minorities and old gender stereotypes. Like USA did with banning different drugs probably just to have more control on various groups of people. Extreme enough religion doesn't even need to act like they care. But as we were talking about Patriarchy (in Iran), it doesn't really surprise me that women get to be in the bottom when you look at USA and realize that women in usa got voting rights in 1920 while african americans got them in 1870. So even the people they just while ago slaved got rights faster. Even if it wasn't mandatory, I still wouldn't get why women would want to wear such a thing under the scorching sun. I find the whole ordeal degrading to women, and those who support human degradation in the name of their god make me sick to my stomach.
This happens constantly in BDSM circles, imho people are free to degrade themselves if it happens with consent or in Consensual Non-Consent.
