One of the greatest challenges most countries have is that contesting an election is too expensive. In my country, the party ticket for the presidential primary election in any of the top political parties is $200,000. Some of these candidates have no other opinion than to seek financial assistance from these greedy financiers.
Contesting elections in my country is characterized by the bribing of electoral officials, traditional rulers, party faithfuls, and vote buying. Winning an election now is not determined by the popularity or acceptance of the candidate but by the highest spender. Hence even when there is a benchmark on sponsorship funding, these candidates still secretly collect more funds because they know that spending more means getting more votes.
This is one of the greatest innovative political ideas I have ever seen. At least the populace would be able to know who controls the government. We have had issues where the government had to close down so many companies because they wanted one of their financiers to gain a monopoly on so many products in order to recoup the funds he invested in the election.
