Did anyone else catch that?

I was just about posting and discovered that the forum is offline..



Though it only lasted for a couple of seconds which is definitely not long enough for many users to notice, I am just curious to know if anyone else found out, and any idea what transpired or transpiring under the hood

This doesn't come as a surprise to me anymore as I have experienced it several times so far. I no longer count the number of times, but this time it was short (maybe a few seconds). My solution to this is only one, take a cigarette and wait a while and reload the site.  

I think there have been several threads of the same in the past every bitcointalk offline for a while, you may have been the umpteenth user to create the same topic today. LOL

Sometimes you getting that when i guess the traffic data is to big or you hit the site reload button and acting to fast.
There are at some stage some breaks but normaly it should be working with in a few minutes after you getting the message for bad gateway.
It also can be something have to do with cloudflare , sometimes.
You should be not worried about it.

This is not new, I experienced this the last time it happened and the same incident also occurred in 2020 . I wouldn’t be too worried about the 503 error message if I were you, try rebooting your device or using a different browser. I’m always login to the forum and everything seems to be working fine on my end.

What to do if the site BITCOINTALK.ORG is unavailable?

If BITCOINTALK.ORG works, but you cannot access the site or its individual page, try one of the possible solutions:

Browser cache.
To delete the cache and get the current version of the page, refresh the page in the browser using the key combination Ctrl + F5.

Access to the site is blocked.
Clear your browser cookies and change the IP address of the computer.

Antivirus and firewall. Check that anti-virus programs (McAfee, Kaspersky Antivirus or an analogue) or a firewall installed on your computer do not block access to BITCOINTALK.ORG.

DNS cache.
Clear the DNS cache on your computer and try to access the site again.

VPN and alternative DNS services.
VPN: for example, NordVPN;
Alternative DNS: OpenDNS or Google Public DNS.

Browser Plugins.
For example, the AdBlock extension, along with ads, can block the content of a site. Find and disable similar plugins for your site.

Probably there was some kind of upgrading or updating works were going on so they have to withdraw the site from online to offline and upload the features or checked whatever have to done in a short period of time and bring it back. And within this time frame most users are not online to noticed as you did because not all users are online everytime.

I don't know what the reason is for the current one, but I totally missed it and didn't see it. But thankfully, everything is back to normal for now. Based on my quick search, this bad gateway is nothing new to the forum as it has happened dozens of times in the past. I found a lot of threads, but this one might be a good one.

It was nothing sort of Ddos attack and forum have not seen it in years as what @OP is talking about the gateway error which sometimes happens due to network connection and site not being able to load and this is normal in many cases as many have opened up forum in normal manner.

There was one similar thread here where it was showing 400 error so you can see it's normal nothing sort of big and last for few seconds only and once you clear browser cache and cookies it might load up again.

I guess your first paragraph best explains it. I've also encountered that several times though my first time experience was hysterical. I panicked. It went from me thinking someone had hijacked my account to thinking the forum had suddenly disappeared (as in, dumped by the admins/owner). With time (each time it came up again) I realized either of the two you mentioned could be the most reoccurring cause for that. This day when I encounter such I just close the site and wait a few minutes before trying again. So far, it has worked wonders because there's nothing much to it to bother anyone.

Check the date on theymos' post and what it was addressed to, you would realized that both situations aren't the same.

Not sure why it's happened, But I don't care about it anymore. I already faced this couple of times, and I didn't count it. It often happens to me, but not for long. It fixes within a minute. A Strong DDoS attack can down a website for a couple of hours. This has not happened with Bitcointalk for a long now.

I don't think this is a problem or it is rather a problem but I am not seeing it as a problem. There was when I used to experience this, but when it happens my only thought is that it's coming from my end, maybe because of the browser I use. What I do is to wait for a while, refresh the browser and proceed and the forum will continue working form me. Since I don't give attention to it whenever it happens, it never happened to be again for a very long time. I don't so much bother myself about the backend of this forum, I have the feeling that it is highly secured, I could also be wrong.
