It's better to be more friendly to your pen ✒️ when it comes to crypto wallets than your keyboard, I have never lost my funds from any wallet that I wrote down it's recovery seeds with my hand, it's always those that I type using a keyboard, or trying to import wallet into another wallet.

I am starting to feel like there is some kind of a tool or software that hackers use to find out recently typed in words or something, the moment you type your recovery seed while connect online makes your wallet weak, I am sticking with writing down with a pen and I think you should too.

If your device is compromised or your keyboard compromised then hackers definitely can record what are you typing. Nothing new in the crypto space. So yea, you should shut off your Internet connection when doing something important with your wallet if applicable. If I can recall correctly some non-custodial wallet doesn't require typing your seed. They give the option to select step by step. So once you write it down you can select it properly. Here might be you safe unless a hacker controls your device. Hardware wallets are pretty safe for us who are often storing cryptocurrency.

There is indeed thing called keylogger, it can read what you type with your keyboard. And when it comes to crypto, it can done really big damage like stealing your recovery seeds, private keys and passwords.
In such case paper is safer option and writting down your seeds on it isn't bad option. But don't forget that paper is vulnerable material and it can be damaged with water or sunlight. Even if you will kepp that sheet of paper in drawer for long time, it might be that later you won't be able to read what is written.

As it has been discussed many times that using offline device means that it will increase your security of being secured or not to let people able to steal your wallet seeds. It is true that there is an app called keylogger which will record anything you type using the keyboard. Writing it in paper is safe but it has time limit where you can't read it. If you are using offline device or any device that is not connected on the internet then using flash drives or usb storing wallet seed won't be a problem.

That's great you've learned that lesson, obviously not so great that you had to learn it the hard way. Hopefully you didn't lose too much. Anyway, I think your priority should be cleaning up that computer of yours. If it was due to malicious programs on your laptop, everything that you do on that computer will be compromised. Therefore, get to the root of the problem now, and do what you must.

The way you go about it will depend on your threat level. You could potentially just do a disk wipe or you could go the full blown method of a new hardware/SSD, update the BIOS, and install a freshly made installation of your operating system, which has been verified via gnupgp.

Yes, because most or all of these malware only works and activate when the device is connected with the internet. A wallet in an offline device has really huge benefits when it comes to security.

While on the other hand, having anti-virus in an online device (except linus os),can avoid getting infected against malware but having knowledge on everything about malware/ads, virus is still huge factor for keeping security safe.

I knew that some have tools to let your copy paste be exchange to their address for wallet. I remember that some got stolen funds upon copying their receiving address and the exact address where changed upon copying to the fill blank page. This happened on ronin network and some complained about it, but obviously those users were being infected on sites they have been visited.

When you import keys from another wallet also it's safe if you have followed the security precautions and these keyboard related malwares usually happens when you click on a link over untrusted sources that install spamware on your device and they can see what you are typing. The best practices is to use hardware wallets and offline storage to keep your seeds safe rather then on online or cloud storage.

Furthermore, paper is vulnerable with water, fire, physical damages, though you must save it in a secured and very safe places.
Which is why we have seed washers and metal plates where you can engrave the seeds and store them somewhere safe as paper is prone to damage over time easily.

New crypto wallets of today have found a way around this, to avoid writing down the wrong words the wallet will ask you to type in the correct words again for confirmation, meta mask wallet and Trust wallet do this, even some on other blockchains do the same thing.

Turning off the Internet for a while, in order to enter a seed phrase or password, is just complacency for the user. If the keylogger is already on the victim's computer, then it can collect all the information, regardless of the Internet, and then, when the network appears, simply send it to the desired address.
It would be more important to minimize the use of the computer on which such operations are carried out and be sure that the system is completely clean, that is, it has a license and does not have any extraneous programs.

The danger awaiting a book is lesser than the danger awaiting a saved recovery seed online, right? Books can get burnt or torn apart if carelessly handled and the worst that can happen is losing access to your coins, it's still better than someone stealing your coins.

After writing your recovery seed on a paper, you should have many backups of that seed phrase and in more than one location, the chances that all of them will get burnt, torn apart or destroyed in different places at the same time is minute. After writing your seed phrase down, you can as well laminate the paper to make things safer. Storing it online is one of the worst things anybody can do.

Pen and paper is indeed a safer combination than typing your seed phrase on a computer. But you need to consider that by the time you keep your seed phrase somewhere hidden and safe, it is most likely forgotten for years or even decades. After all, you don't need them for deposits and withdrawals.

So there's a tendency that by the time you check on it, some words are already illegible or some characters unidentifiable. High humidity, for example, could completely destroy the characters. Or the ink might have already faded, deforming the words. So it's probably wise to consider steel seed phrase storage like Billfodl or Cryptosteel's.

But don't forget that paper is vulnerable material and it can be damaged with water or sunlight. Even if you will kepp that sheet of paper in drawer for long time, it might be that later you won't be able to read what is written.

Not only water or sunlight, but also a lot of other things like chemicals, fire or the fact that a child or a pet can get hold of the paper on which the important information is written. Therefore, in addition to the quality of the paper and ink, everyone should also pay special attention to where they store the paper, and at least laminate it to protect it from the humidity.

What many forget is that one copy is never enough, but also that multiple copies in the same location do not guarantee absolute security.

I think there are some tools we can always use to keep our information safe like the private keys to make the less vulnerable to water or fire. I have seen a metal like aluminum where we can carve letters writing down our private keys on it making it waterproof and less vulnerable to fire. There are many news tools being produced this recent time to ensure that our file and crypto document are safe from hackers through the internet.
For me I prefer the manual crypto wallet where we can store our coins or tokens without having to go online. At least this will reduce our risk of falling prey to attacks from internet.

I have never lost my funds from any wallet that I wrote down it's recovery seeds with my hand, it's always those that I type using a keyboard, or trying to import wallet into another wallet.
Actually, it doesn't really matter whether you back up your seed by writing it down on a peace of paper or save it digitally if the device you used to create the wallet is already compromised and connected to the Internet.
What you need to keep your coins safe against malware and cyber attacks is a cold wallet where your seeds/private keys will never be exposed to the Internet.

Quote
the moment you type your recovery seed while connect online makes your wallet weak, I am sticking with writing down with a pen and I think you should too.
Even if you type your keys when you are not connected, the keylogger can capture them and the moment you go online it will send them to the hacker.

Even if you will kepp that sheet of paper in drawer for a long time, it might be that later you won't be able to read what is written.
I believe this was how my wallet got compromised, this is a wallet that I have been using for years and all of a sudden funds were moved out, the only dangerous move I made with the wallet was typing its recovery seed into iancoleman website because I want to get its private key instead.

It's better to be more friendly to your pen ✒️ when it comes to crypto wallets than your keyboard, I have never lost my funds from any wallet that I wrote down it's recovery seeds with my hand, it's always those that I type using a keyboard, or trying to import wallet into another wallet.
Many backup methods for your wallet seeds and writing it down on paper is only one of available methods. You can not say paper backup is a safest one. Because it is related to many things.

Quality of paper, pen to make sure what you write won't be blurred too much or even disappear after a while sometime because of low quality of pen pink. Later steps are like where you store that paper. Is your storage location is safely enough, is it secretly, is it good to safe your seed from water, fire and more types of physical damage risk factors.

If you recover it successfully from your backup, it means you don't make any typo when writing and that backup is good to use.

I am starting to feel like there is some kind of a tool or software that hackers use to find out recently typed in words or something, the moment you type your recovery seed while connect online makes your wallet weak, I am sticking with writing down with a pen and I think you should too.
Don't store your wallet seed online in email, cloud account, google sheet etc. because it is risky. If you lose your account, you will lose those data to hackers.

Please note that there are many impersonators and phishing websites that offer the functionality of "checking" your wallet, while in reality, they merely collect and steal everything you feed them, especially data that looks like a set of words to recover funds. Even legit websites such as iancoleman tools shouldn't be used as is in an online environment: instead, you can use an offline copy of an HTML page on a computer that never interacts with the Internet. Or you can install a reputable software such as Electrum and generate your private keys there, but, assuming we aren't talking about small amounts for everyday spending, do it on an air-gapped computer, or at least on a hardware wallet that supports sending information via QR-codes. Any online solution you can think of will be much less secure than a solution that doesn't require you to be connected to the Internet.
