Happy independence day to Africa's most populous country.

Today marks Nigeria's 62nd year since gaining her independence from the colonial masters.

Nigeria bitcoin adoption journey so far.

1. One of the top countries in the world with high number of bitcoin investors. This investors are mostly youths aged between 18 and 60

2. A country with over 200 million citizen with 27% of them (33.4 million) been cryptocurrency investors despite the government banning its trading in February 2021.

3. A country that has traded over $1.16bn worth of bitcoin on paxful(a P2P exchange platform).

4. A country that currently has many places that accepts bitcoin as a form of payment (luxury hotel in lagos been the first) and Also has two bitcoin stands in lagos.

5. A country that is presumed to have over 60% of its citizens core cryptocurrency investors come 2030.

Nigeria might not be there yet in regards to bitcoin adoption but just like it gain its independence, one day we will also celebrate the freedom of money (Bitcoin adoption)

There is no atom of relationship between Bitcoin and Nigerians independence.
This is total off topic, go celebrate this over the politics and society board.
It breaks my heart to even see we aren't celebrating independence, search your heart are we really free ?

Happy Independence Day to all the Nigerian Bitcointalk users. The country have got independence from the colonial masters, but the people of Nigeria weren't enjoying the real independence. From the source it is astonishing to see 27% of the population into cryptocurrency usage. In all aspects slowly cryptocurrency usage is bringing freedom to the people who are getting used to it. For now the country needs freedom from the corruption, and the same can be made possible through blockchain technology. Hope the country with lot of resources grow good.

being independent but not feeling free is really painful, an interesting topic for me to find info about nigeria,
but I am quite surprised that 27% of citizens use crypto for transactions, what about their fiat?

I guess they don’t use everytime cryptos for transactions.
The number is high here because, many don’t like to pay the taxes while transacting through FIAT.
Moreover as their government has banned exchanges in their country, therefore almost all Nigerians can be seen on popular Peer 2 Peer exchanges.
Nevertheless I too agree that Nigerians have played a huge role in making p2p deals more popular.
At last Happy Independence day OP.

Celebration of Independence day is a good thing to join along side with all the Nigerians bitcoiners if not for anything, but bitcoin has been a legal currency that is permitted to be use despite the lack of giving hands to adopting it in a country like Nigeria, but the bitcoin growth in the country and Africa as a whole is fast increasing and it would have been more interesting to celebrate if the freedom celebration is extended to having the adoption of a digitally decentralized network like bitcoin in it financial economy as inclusive, this would have been the highest anticipated freedom of the present days from Nigerians.

Sorry if I may sound a little mean, but Independence from what exactly?

Colonial masters? What a joke  Cheesy
The Colonial masters can't even do the easiest thing of returning the looted historical artifacts that are locked up and kept hosted in different European Museums.

Financial freedom? Last I remember, the so-called independent government, didn't want Nigerians trading Bitcoin.

Worse still, the pseudo-independence these former colonies think they have got is just a continuation of shitty governance by very corrupt, selfish dictators. How do I know this? Lots of news and articles online about this.

Yeah, you tried to throw some shit on the wall but unfortunately, you left 'em stucked between your fingers. I'm afraid I'll have to disagree with some points. I mean -- we could disagree to agree.

When you talk about a country's independence, does it necessarily encapsulates any fact you stated above? I don't think you've really been enlightened on any democratic proceedings neither have you allowed yourself sometime to be taught how to compare and contrast its (independence) ambiguity; Which will then broaden your sense of perception towards the said word. With that, you'll understand how it stays as part of a sentence and its meaning, depending on the context next time.

I mean , where the hell are you from, huh? Are you trying say that in your country, the gubernatorials and their Entourages are saints from heaven? Even American still has corruption problem, so if America -- with all the exposure, brilliance & infrastructure -- is still having corruption CONTROLLED,  not evacuated, who TF are you?

Haven't you seen alot worse? How bout afganistan? That hasn't known how peace is kept?
Make some reasonable points next time ( especially about a country's name)

I will not crucify the OP for celebrating the Bitcoiners in his country on independence day though it's kind of off to me too, yet the way we think varies, hence the respect for each other's views. As there might be nothing to celebrate in Nigeria as regards independence as you are concerned, many, including the Bitcoiners here might still think otherwise.

Nigeria might not be getting everything right, but still, one of the countries you can enjoy the lowest cost of living in the world. This might not be if they are still under the colonial masters.

That's the dark side of every independence day especially on third world country, not all country though, on some, it is just an announcement of the leader of the state.
Most of the third world countries are dealing with similar kind of situations where they don't have opportunities to grow and many other problems while the leaders enjoy their power and people feel oppressed there but bitcoin can help them to solve some financial problems for them so the community support to it is high despite the ban.

Considering that internet users[1][2] on Nigeria is almost 38%, 27% crypto users is pretty high IMO considering the situation of crypto there.
The Nigerian community is very much active on the forum also and we all know how many users are there for cryptocurrencies as well so it's big celebration for them and btc say has provided them as hope to rise from ground levels and give them control over their funds to some extent.

First, Happy independence day to Nigeria. Wish the best for your country.

Second, Nigeria is no stranger to bitcoin so far. I really feel that the presence of many of your nationals here can be additional proof that Nigeria is one of a number of other countries where many people already know about bitcoin. I don't know how your country's government regulates bitcoin so far, but I believe that Nigeria has had a fair share of the bitcoin market so far. You can expect legal adoption in the future, but I think it will take a lot of time from now.

I wish the best for your country (Nigeria), I hope that in 62 years of independence your country will always be given peace and the wheels of society's economy will continue to increase.

I have read all the points from one to five that you describe above, hopefully in the future Nigeria can adopt Bitcoin as expected investment there. It is inconceivable if a country legalizes transactions using Bitcoin, maybe the Nigerian government will take the right policy because Bitcoin is the prima donna there and is loved by the people.

We Nigerian citizens hope that sooner or later, our government will adopt Bitcoin, and we also hope that we will change our government so that future leaders will be young people who are aware of the advantages of Bitcoin and Blockchain technology for the growth of the economy of our beloved nation Nigeria.
Regards and best wishes.
