This looks very cool, but I’m not sure I understand fully. This appears to indicate that they remove the redeemed, but previously intact, hologram? If so, why?  Is this so they can better grade the reverse? Do they feel like there is a liability to intact redeemed holograms?

Regardless of their reasons, this is a serious move on their part that seems to indicate a high level of commitment to grading physical bitcoins. Wow

Beware of scammers. I will never discuss the sale of Collectibles on Telegram or any other messaging client outside the forum.

Somebody at PCGS is sipping the Kool-aid.

This is a massive step and shows somebody at PCGS is taking these seriously.

Yes, the holos were both partially attached... came as a surprise when I opened the box.
In thought this seems to remove them from the liability of someone later claiming it was supposed to be loaded...But I guess you could peel a coin and not redeem it, but then the private key would be exposed Huh

Why does it matter if the private key is exposed if the coin is already redeemed and never going to be loaded again? The worst thing that can happen is they see your transaction history, but they can already do that since they have the public address.....

This was my reaction too. It would be crazy to peel a holo but not actually redeem the value. The private key is just an artifact of the collectible at that point.

Not sure.. these were submitted on behalf of another collector and they approved me posting the pictures.

Redeemed 5's are pretty rare to come by... plenty of the blanks out there.
I could see this go for in the 0.1 range if marketed properly

All valid opinions and feedback. For those who have no issues with the private being exposed, ask yourself if you would willingly show your peeled coin private key on here, for example? Most probably would not. Even if swept, there is still a privacy aspect in my view of them not being visible.

But what can you possibly hide by not exposing the redeemed private key? They already have the public address. We can go to any block explorer and see where the coins ended up with that public address...

There is zero risk of having the redeemed private keys on Casascius coins exposed IMO. I'm specifically talking about Casascius private keys, not ones generated on your own.

Yes, the holos were both partially attached... came as a surprise when I opened the box.
I'm curious to know if they took the time to clean the sticker residue or just left everything in that state?
- I do know that normally it's not their job, but it'd be quite strange to see the latter one.

Why does it matter if the private key is exposed if the coin is already redeemed and never going to be loaded again? The worst thing that can happen is they see your transaction history, but they can already do that since they have the public address.....
You have a point, but there are other risks apart from its privacy issues:

e.g.
  • You still have to trust them to not claim the remaining forked coins!
  • You're basically giving someone else the ability to sign a message with it [apart from the manufacturer that generated it] and if there's any kind of history attached to the public address in question, then it could go wrong in some ways!
    - I do know it's a very specific situation that probably isn't going to apply to most users, but still...

I love this set up. I have a bunch of keys I've been wanting to do something with. It's perfect.
