It's good you're looking out to surprise your beloveth uncle,
In this phase of the crypto era, the best gift you can give to anyone now, Old or young, I suggest it being a Bitcoin, When considering the price, it's way below, but the huge potential makes it unique and excellent, it's would be the best option to give him that, and I'm sure when the price kicks in, he will forever be grateful to you, because you've just set he's feet on a successful pathway to become a future millionaire
Please do not buy someone Bitcoin as a gift and promise them that in the future they will be a millionaire, you might actually be doing them more harm than good because they might not even understand a thing about what you gave them, all they would be anxiously waiting for is the time 'for lambo', which might not come as soon as they expect, thus they become impatient and in the end can even lose your gift because they are bereft of any form of Bitcoin knowledge.

Having said that, if you are ever going to give someone some Bitcoins as a gift, the only thing that should come next afterwards is making available ample materials to them, materials that would help them understand what you've given them, and from there they might start using whichever strategy is best for them to accumulate more to the gift you have given them, thus you would then have succeeded in bringing someone genuinely into the network, and not through any get rich quick promises.

if he is a beginner, and he obviously is, I am not sure how good it is for him to start with any phone wallet. Many things can go wrong there, just out of ignorance.
I worked as an internet provider reseller, and in general, most "beginners" do not have a clear idea of what online privacy means, or the importance of passwords/private keys.

If we're talking about a small amount of bitcoin, there's really nothing wrong with a mobile wallet. It's mostly for learning purposes in the first place. And there's a reason why I mentioned that OP should help gramps correctly setup the wallet.

-snip- Dogecoin I would not give. Bitcoin would be better. But between BTC and Hardware Wallet, I would prefer HW, because it will be a physical, material gift, and not something abstract and not tangible, like crypto currencies. I'm trying to take into account your uncle's age, and therefore the habits of the older generation, for whom tangible gifts may be the best option.

Bitcoin is certainly the best choice, but why should the OP give DOGE, doesn't he have other options besides DOGE?
I also agree about the hardware wallet gift being an option for a gift, because the prize requires a physical gift and a hardware wallet is a choice. The hardware wallet can also be filled with bitcoin assets, quite easy and of course it will be meaningful. Old age will not be a problem as long as you still want to know new things or new technology.

Regarding hardware wallets, maybe Trezor, Ledger, and Safepal, because I've used all three wallets..

That's where I planned to send the Doge coins to? He is a trust wallet user and he likes coins like Shiba inu and Doge coin. .

He knows how to handle a crypto wallet already, he is no more a crypto newbie .
Hope you told him the difference between close and open source wallet and how he do not know and how anyone do not know the source code of wallets that are close source?

There is still nothing bad to get him bitcoin instead, but if you think doge is what he would like, you can get that. But I will recommend you to get him bitcoin instead.

The best gift to me would be a hardware wallet, but funding it with little amount can make it worth it.

These are lists of open source hardware wallet: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5288971.msg55583288#msg55583288

If you want to get him bitcoin instead and you need an online wallet for it, Electrum is better. Electrum is an open source wallet.

If your uncle likes coins like DOGE or SHIBA, he is considering the wrong features when deciding what cryptocurrencies to use. I am not sure what your own preferences are, but if you understand the benefits that Bitcoin offers (not talking about price action and possible future percentage gains), I would try to pass that information on to my uncle to help him see things differently.

What drew him to meme coins exactly? The jokes, the cute dog logos, Musk the manipulator?
I would talk to him about how many altcoins have died in the last decade, and that many don't have a reason to exist except for making a small circle of people rich. Mention Terra and Luna as the most recent examples of how something that looks good at the surface becomes rotten quickly. Check and see how feels about bitcoin, and then decide if that's something you want to get him. You can't and shouldn't force bitcoin on someone if that person has other interests and reasons why they got interested in crypto.

Which model to choose, you can see here - [BIG LIST] Hardware wallets (80+). Dogecoin I would not give.

Ratimov originally created this list of hardware wallets, but it's been years since his original post and some of these wallets are no longer available or have been discontinued by their manufacturers. I've taken the liberty of translating his list, putting together my own updated version here: [VELIKA LISTA] Hardverski novčanici, and I will continue to update this list as new hardware wallets are released.

Although the post is in Croatian, it gives a broad overview of available devices, links to official websites and price information. The list also includes a few comments on each device, as well as a link to a review article where you can learn more about the security of each wallet.

Yes, this is true and you are really right that during this time some of the hardware wallets in this list may not be relevant. Great, you've done a good job, but a croatian topic might be a bit of a hassle for english-speaking forum members. Have you thought about making an english version of your list of HW devices?

I have no idea why OP chose DOGE. Perhaps, in his opinion, this is an excellent altcoin. I can’t say anything for him.

Old age will not be a problem for learning new technologies and devices, but be aware that the familiarization process may take longer than for younger people. Also, as a rule, older people always have problems interacting with modern gadgets, due to their little experience of interacting with this, unlike young people.

Since  you are speaking about that nice list fork, I think you need to update last few hardware wallets I found and posted in that topic, Ice wallet, Citadel, PirateChain Wallet, and one more you wrote about Ellipal Titan Mini.
I am not suggesting purchasing any of this wallets, but I am just reminding you that you need to update and refresh this list, maybe even prices changed for some devices like Trezor.

It's nothing wrong with them, but they are generally not very secure and we don't know if this guy is even using smartphone, so it could be a double learning process.

He understands more about crypto now boss, he sells and trades on exchanges time to time, I decided to teach him some time ago because he is a fast learner, now he understands everything about crypto wallet, it's security and making transactions.
