Apple can afford to ban the gambling ads because they have enough sources to meet the requirements like profits in lot of other ways where people don't complain at all so it may even give good name in the social media as well. Probably apple users are not happy with that cause apple promoted their ecosystem is highly secure and save people money from online scams even though it is not entirely true still most people think in that way so apple wants to keep that or gradually can bring the changes over the years not all of a sudden.

Apple is one of those companies that has influenced over these kinds of decisions. They do not need the money as they have various streams of revenues that can be gained in a more morally accepted manner. Advertisements of gambling games or any kind of message relevant to it can pose serious problems with them especially that Apple products are catered to almost all audience of various age groups.

Like you mentioned, they can and they have the resources to not entirely rely on ads about gambling. I guess this is the best move that they can possibly do to for people to not get addicted to online gambling.

I confess that I can't understand the logic of these measures, people have the brains to think and decide what is good and bad for them, I don't understand why they don't let each person decide for themselves when they look at an advertisement for gambling? Are most people addicted to gambling? Could it be that most people aren't responsible enough to choose to avoid the casino when they see any gambling advertisements? I think for a company as big as apple they should think about giving people freedom of choice, but unfortunately they choose to decide for people.

Well we know apple. Their standards are high. They are not like the android play store or any other store that will allow anything on their platform as long as they are earning with it. Apple is also earning more better than them so for them, banning gambling ads is not a big loss.

Adults can think properly and know what's good or wrong for them but there are underage users and they can click on one of those ads especially if that ad is so catchy and has a cartoonish characters on it. If their parents found out about this then apple can be reported by them. This is one of the things apple are avoiding but before they get there, apple are already doing an action.

Employee's are becoming entitled now a days and the company is changing their policies according to these entitled people. They should fire them rather than dancing to their tune  .

We know the position Facebook is in right now as they lost over $700 billion this year, i do not think it is solely because they had any restrictions on advertisement but the manner in which it was implemented banning advertisement based on race, sexual orientation and religion. As noted by Arment, Apple provides advertisers with the choice to have their ad shown in app categories different than their own app's category, allowing ads for gambling ads to appear in listings for unrelated apps like the podcast app Overcast.

The presence of gambling ads in the App Store as a whole has prompted some criticism, with some accusing Apple of being greedy and moving away from policies that the company upheld under former CEO Steve Jobs. Apple earns revenue from both the ad placements and its 15% to 30% cut of in-app purchases in gambling apps.

Beyond upsetting some developers, Apple allowing apps to run ads in other apps' listings has already led to the company facing accusations of anticompetitive behavior. In a tweet last week, legal expert Florian Mueller argued the ads are "another means of increasing the effective app tax rate, forcing developers to buy ads on their own app pages in order to avoid that others steer customers away from there."

In August, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman said Apple wanted to nearly triple its current advertising revenue to at least $10 billion per year in the future. Gurman said keyword-based search result ads are coming to the Apple Maps app starting next year.

We've reached out to Apple for comment and asked if the company will consider tightening its rules surrounding the ads. We'll update this story if we hear back.

I think it's less about "Apple Devs hating on gambling ads" and more about "Apple being negligent in the way they handle ads on their platform." Ads can be content and beneficial if they are targeted to the right audiences. As you said, the current system allows ad managers to publish advertisements outside of their innate categories. This will never sit well with anyone no matter what the ads are. Picture this, you're looking for games to download on your new iPhone or maybe browsing the vast expanse of the Apple Store for digital stuff to purchase, then all of a sudden you're smacked with an ad about gambling, now imagine this being done to you on a regular basis, despite the fact that you as a person aren't into gambling. You'd be upset too.

Again, I don't think it's about Apple Devs hating on gambling, I'm pretty sure a handful of them if not a considerable percentage gambles or has at least gambled once, it's more about how Apple is handling their content.

Apple is a trillion dollar company that has so many ways of getting profits apart form the ads or what so ever. If they decided to pause gambling ads for now then I think they are doing that for the discretion of users of their products to prevent customer accusing them of influencing gambling that can attract those that are not privilege to be gambling.
This is not a act against gambling but we just need to understand the safety and how Apple is trying to limit too much ads from going platforms which can later cause addiction. I hope Apple will look into this matter soon and adjust in any form.

Apple is not the only one restricting casino ads on their platforms, like liquor and drugs there are specific niches, industries, and sites where you can show gambling ads because they have their own audiences and they don't want to show ads to their audiences, if Apple wants to be a child and family-friendly store then let them, I'm sure you also have a family and you don't want your kids to see casinos and betting ads when your children are scrolling in Apple supported sites, the casinos will undertand that, in fact they gave warning that only 18 years old above can play on their casinos.

I do not think that Apple wants to get into the gambling business as they may see it as too risky or perhaps even they see themselves as too unexperienced in that area. And I honest would have to agree. Why would Apple want to get into a extremely competitive market which is completely foreign to them? It does not sound like a good business strategy. The part about them possibly banning gambling advertisements might be a loss of profit for them but they would not have to look over their shoulder everytime for a angry regulator and spending millions on lawyers just because the gambling world is so full of litigation.

What is clear is that the steps taken by Apple to ban gambling advertising will probably not significantly affect the industry and its revenue. Apple may try to provide a different experience for its users regardless here they may be at a loss because their revenue is reduced due to the ad ban.

Without ads, gamblers will still gamble even if Apple bans those ads in the app store.

They can change that decision in the future but for now, they're just trying to get away with the heat that has been made by those complainants and that's an okay move for them.
And when the dust settles, they can be back at it again try to adjust things and make those gambling ads appear again depending on the demand that they're getting it with those ads.

I would have guessed that Apple (like other major companies in the sector of technology) used targeted advertisements to meet the interests of every single of their clients who happens to see ads while using apps on the iPhones.
If I had to guess, there is a slight chance there is a problem with the targeted advertisement algorithm. People would not complain this way if they found the ads to be fair, balanced and in topic to their individual interest and browsing history.

There is a change Apple will apply restrictions to the gambling ads but I think it is not necessary, they just need to adjust their AI so those who are not interested in casinos and similar services won't receive those promotions, images and links.

Makes sense, or at least give options to developers? Wouldn't that make more sense, if you give developers a chance to pick what type of ads that will show, and then the amount of money that they will earn based on what they show. Something like "baby toys" would be cheaper since it's common and easy, whereas something like "nsfw/18+" would be paying more but would be riskier to show and not many people would want to see it. That’s why I would assume that there is going to be a bit more freedom to that.

I am not saying that it will happen like that, apple can ban whatever they want but at the end of the day options would have been a better choice.

The ad filter facility will help the users not to see the ads they don't want. This will also provide convenience for users to explore every page that is there without seeing anything that does not interest them. But if this is implemented, maybe Apple needs to think of other ways to generate more revenue for the company still. But now, with the increasing number of Apple users, Apple should pay more attention to them because it is the users who have helped Apple gain its reputation and grow the company.

Apple would be having a hard time choosing between an anti-gambling stance and a potential large revenue from gambling ads. For me I am not expecting Apple to implement a blanket ban on gambling ads. I doubt they will be that strict in keeping with their anti-gambling stance that they will fully not allow any ad relating to gambling.

But then it will all boil down to management. A change of management could also mean a change in policies. After all being anti or pro-gambling doesn't represent Apple's image.

There are many people out there which are very susceptible to effective branding, before Elon we had Steve Jobs which was loved by the media and his followers as if he was an individual above them and they were willing to pay for an overpriced product, at least back then the apple products were very good but now not only you need to pay a lot for those devices but they are in many ways inferior to the products of their direct competitors.

It's okay, I don't see any protest but that's a normal reaction for those that are into gambling and as well as a user of Apple products. That's normal and if there's something wrong, it would haven't been called out just like those ads. If it's said that it's a temporary thing, let's just leave it and if they ever change their decisions in the future, we'll see if that has been a firm decision for them and results are good or not.
