About Support in the Contest

I created this topic because I got a private message from someone whose initials I kept secret, who entered this contest - 🎃 [ANN] Bitcointalk Bitcoin Pumpkin Carving Contest 🎃 to support his work in voting.

what I think is that the work of that person is ordinary and I have chosen someone else's work which I think is much better than that contestant's work who PM me.

for all contestants. I only recommend that you be humble when you enter the contest, don't influence other people to choose your work for any reason. everyone has their own judgment, and it would be fairer if everyone was given the freedom to choose based on quality, not intimidation.

hopefully, we can learn to respect other people's choices to maintain fairness!

What's the point of this thread if you're not gonna out the person? You hope they see it and feel bad for messaging you? What you posted here should be a given, but lots have 0 morals and will try anything to win, especially where there is a prize involved.

I don't really understand how important the prize from the contest is. but I believe the contest was made just for celebration and fun. I don't think any participant would get so serious about asking for support via PM like that.

1. Not many people visit reputation board, so it's likely most contestant won't read your recommendation.
2. You can report those PM as unsolicited/unwanted PM. And it's not pointless action since a user was banned in past after 4 user report his PM, see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5186601.0.
3. If that user actually intimidate you, isn't it wise idea to let other people know?

From what can be seen, it is not difficult to conclude that the winner is already quite certain, given that he only won a little less than 1/4 of all the votes - so I don't see how it can be in anyone else's interest to send PMs with such requests, unless is it about who has the most votes right now? I'm not accusing anyone, I'm just thinking logically, given that the voting results can be seen publicly.

I also agree with @ETFbitcoin that this topic will have no purpose if you don't do something concrete from what was suggested, and I'm sure you're not the only one who got such a PM from the same member.

if there is only a recommendation to support someone's participation in the contest, and no money or anything was offered in return, I don't see a particular problem with that request. a completely legitimate request, because maybe that mysterious user thinks that you are not seen that contest.
he could even do all that in public, there is nothing illegal or punishable. sending unsolicited PMs is a completely different matter, even if he just wrote "hello".

I can't remember the exact username. But, If I am not wrong, fillippone also posted publicly and said hey, WO guys, You can vote for my Pizza for Pizza baking contest. I think it's fair enough.

Maybe the user sending the PM knows you or maybe they are a member of the same local community as you, otherwise I guess they'll know what the consequences are by sending random unsolicited PM. You may be able to report the PM if it bothers you, but if it doesn't, you just need to let the member know it was a bad attempt to win a prize.

OP, after all the reputation board may not be the right guide board for the user you think is wrong. Move your thread to the beginners & help boards if your main goal is something like this:

the PM that that person sends to you, you should be able to appreciate, if he talks about the work & voting, especially in the (Pumpkin Carving Contest) section, it can be one of justice for you and the one who sent the PM, if you create a topic like this, I think justice & respect no longer exists, even though you don't mention the name of the account.

For me PM someone is mainly about someone's work & voting, you just need to know, like it or not, publish it marked you don't accept it, it should be if you don't like it and accept the PM, you can remove from your message list or you can ignore the user, I think it's more fair and respectful, than having to create a topic like this, if the user sees this topic he feels hit, even though the user has good intentions just asking for a voteher and work.

OP, if you feel intimidated in determining your support for the contest. I'm sure there will be many people who support you publishing people who ask for your support.
but if the PM form is something simple and does not cause any effect. I guess you don't need to create this thread.

although the contest organizers emphasized that no manipulation should be made in the voting (alt/begging accounts). There will be people who do it without us knowing it.

OP, what do you mean by intimidation in this context? Was the pm intimidating or threatening? Was it from a DT member who threatened to tag you if you don't vote for them?

I don't think that there is anything wrong if someone genuinely ask for your support. You ought to have replied the pm with these words "Sorry, I will vote another person whose work I think is better than yours ". You may decide to add these further words "Next time, put more efforts in the context more than in sending pm for support"

I have recieved pm from users who were banned, that created ban appeal. When I recieve such pm, I will visit the appeal thread, if they have good reasons to be unbanned, I'll support their application, otherwise I'll let them know.

If someone can ask for support during ban appeal, they can also ask during context. It will only be a problem if there is monetary inducement or intimidation as Op stated in their post.

I got two friendly pm's from two different users about voting on that pumpkin carving contest thread. I don't think it's an imposition that I don't like, and even I am willing to review their work even though I don't know what decision to make. Like it or not, that's up to me because basically not everyone thinks unsolicited pm's are really bother if they're friendly enough to do.

I didn't create thread and didn't even report the pm, it's just about me and two different users sending me the pm. But I really believe they seem to be just asking for support without begging because I didn't see anything pushy from those two pm. But because this is contest for fun for celebration with prizes that don't mean much, then I think the community and users can make their own choices on each user and whoever they are with their best work.

Why did you created this topic in Reputation section if you don't want to reveal profile of this member?
I really don't care who is going to win this contest but I know that whenever money and profit is involved you will have people doing all kind of weird stuff to win.
If this member sent mass messages than other people should reveal his profile, but you should should just ignore this if only you received this request from him.
Maybe he just wanted more people to see his work, and he was not forcing anyone to vote, so it's not that serious.
