I've read a lot of posts and comments on this forum in the past few days but I saw few posts or replies saying "this have been talked about many times before " ,as a fresh forum user like me how will I know if something like that have been discussed before?

Also is it wrong for someone else to discuss what a person have talked about before?

You can search for answers on a search engine like Google or duckduckgo to see if it's already been asked/answered before.

A lot of the time when people make those sorts of posts, they should direct you to the original thread where it was discussed - if they don't, I'd recommend reporting that post as spam unless they actually give you an answer.

It's not wrong to open topics to ask questions that have been asked before (especially if the last thread on it was made years ago and something might have changed or if you can't find any answers from a quick search - if the first three non ad links don't have an answer, ask here or if they don't have a quick answer).

Also: This has been asked before Grin.

Personally,  I don't think it is a problem if we discuss something that was already discussed in the past.

I just take a look in one or two boards if is there already an open discussion before I create a new topic. I just look the first page. Alternatively,  you can Google the" keywords + bitcointalk " to see if you find something related.

The problem is when people create a new topic when someone already open on the same subject just a few hours before. This generates confusion as nobody follow two discussions. However,  for big topics this is most likely happen as there are o many boards and so many people here.

But I wouldn't mind this subject if I were you. Just act normally in the forum and don't spam around, i.e., don't  write what you wouldn't say in a normal conversation

That's because many newbies don't even bother to read sticky post and rather make a new topic, and it goes on for years. But if you are looking for something specific, you can try using https://ninjastic.space/ which makes looking for topics or even keywords much easier.

Also is it wrong for someone else to discuss what a person have talked about before?
It depends on what you want to discuss. For example, it won't be a problem if you have a specific problem and you open a new topic about it (but even then its good to browse forum first to see if someone else had the same problem), but if you come to this section with yet another "Newbies beware of xyz" that's been mentioned countless times before then you might get that response.

If we are honest with ourselves most post that get the reply such as (this post has been discussed here before) such post questions that gets this are of very low quality and are post many users thinks if the posters has checked the pinned messages or rules and important post or a very basic research they would have found the answers to their post.

I have seen some top quality post that has been discussed before but everyone was still cheerful to discuss on it. Everything about the forum can be found summarized in posts pinned on meta and also on this board make use of them.

Reading.
Keep making minor research for yourself and learn from already asked questions; don't come out to ask yours except it's an explicitly-detailed repetition, with a different point of consideration, - such that Haven't been discussed or shared before.
If you'd sacrifice time to read, you'd realize that we have search engines and you should prolly Know how that works right?!
Quote
Also is it wrong for someone else to discuss what a person have talked about before?

Yes, it is wrong. We have a term for that; it's called plagiarism. Simply copying, spinning, inter-changing words in a fact that's not your ORIGINAL idea( where ever you got 'em doesn't matter to anyone). If you must copy and paste, then don't fail to add a source link. Peeps have paid with their accounts for their ignorance in their newbie days, Beware!

Use Google or Bitcointalk's search function to check if a certain topic has already been discussed or not.

Also is it wrong for someone else to discuss what a person have talked about before?
It depends on what the topic is — some topics have been discussed dozens of times without any new information/narratives(who is Satoshi, etc), while some topics are fine to be discussed redundantly due to new information(exchange reviews, etc).

What's the purpose to ask same thing over and over in this forum while you can actually use google search to find an answer about the particular question you want to get? it's faster than wait any users to reply on your topic.

It's not really wrong, but forum encourage any users to not open similar topic since it could increase spam and low quality post which against the unofficial forum rules.

Sometime I would consider to bump an old topic if I want to discuss the same topic to rather than create fresh new topic.

Thats the purpose of search function. Yes for a newbie he may not be aware of it at the beginning, thats why older users inform them that this has been discussed and guided you to go to previous threads cause maybe the answer you are looking for are already there.

Its not bad to repeat topics or maybe previous one has been discussed very long time ago. (like few years) But if it was just like days, its not good thats why moderators locked it or deleted.

It still depends on the topic of discussion. For example if nobody asks "who is Satoshi Nakamoto" for a long time, that topic is still not something that should be repeated to receive the same answers. But if it is something that is still a misconception or there are misinformation about it elsewhere like "SegWit 'removes' signatures from transactions" (which is wrong BTW) then it's OK to create a new topic about it even though it was discussed before.

Yes you are right. For example the hot topic now, about CZ and sam, Ive seen different threads and based on the updated issue like, Binance planning to acquire ftx, then the next thing is the deal was cancelled. Thats another topic out of the rebuttals that they did.

Its all about the information. We can definitely have some exception to new threads having some changes or like you said misconception.

Don't be embarrassed, OP; you're not the first nor the last to get embarrassed before a user is told that a question is not new to the forum. We can't manage newcomers and regularly send them to read the same threads that have already been created thousands of times. Over time, everyone learns to use the forum, and the questions stop. And the fact that old users are forced to answer the same questions, in a way, becomes ridiculous. Someday, all answers from one user will be considered plagiarism in some sense. Grin

This will not necessarily be the case. Answers to the same questions may change over time, for example due to advances in technology or new information. Therefore, I believe that answers to the same question at different intervals of time can have at least very useful additions. Even in repetitive topics, it is possible to discuss the issue from a different angle and take into account previously missed nuances. So, I agree that there is no need to be shy about asking your questions.

For the best result, you can check out this guideline- [Tips] Guide for forum search
Though google is still the best option you can use for search, a board/section-based search will also get you the best result. Also, there are a lot of lists of different useful threads which you will find here in this board, you can use them for finding whether a thread has already been created on a certain topic or not.

If you want to check if the discussion has been made earlier also then you can search across the forum but don't use forum search as it would come up with messed up results that you will find hard to sort out and be confused so I would suggest you to use direct google search for finding if a topic has been discussed before or not and you can check it in the following manner

Code:
 Who is satoshi bitcointalk
How to make tables bitcointalk
The FTX crash in the market

This way you can check if the discussion has been made or if you can then explore Ninjastic.space to check for the new and old threads in the forum.

Also is it wrong for someone else to discuss what a person have talked about before?
No, it's not a problem and there are many threads in which past discussion are also made but the point you are providing or discussing must be relevant but if we are discussing the same old thing again and again then it's not a fun and you will understand it once you see those threads.

if you want to share information, it is only natural that you search the forum first (use the search feature). whether the information you are about to share has been created by someone else on the forum or not.
although we usually encounter it, as much as possible to avoid it.
it would also be better if what you share is to complete the information. or an update of old information that must have undergone development. the discussion will be fresher than sharing information that already exists.

Adding up to everyone's answer, if you would go for search engine and you are having a little bit of a hard time searching. You could use the site operator to specifically get results that are entirely from this forum if that is what you are after only.

If you are planning to look for discussions related to "what is bitcoin", here is one example of how would I search it in Google.
Code:
what is bitcoin? site:bitcointalk.org

Other than that, you could just use Ninjastic Space like aysg76 mentioned if you do not want to use external sites.

Also is it wrong for someone else to discuss what a person have talked about before?
Some members here have suggested you how to use 'google search' maybe that's the best alternative you use to discuss questions that are often or have been asked.

However, if you want to see the topics that are frequently asked and easier for you, maybe you can take a look below.

Topic: Beginners & Help Encyclopedia
Topic: The most common questions regarding Bitcointalk - An FAQ

Maybe, you can find some topics there that are often asked by new members who come here, hopefully it can help you for the same thing.

I've read a lot of posts and comments on this forum in the past few days but I saw few posts or replies saying "this have been talked about many times before " ,as a fresh forum user like me how will I know if something like that have been discussed before?
If you want to know if a thread have been created before, then you should use the search button and if you don't know how to use it then I will be giving you thread that explains how to properly search for topic that have been created before.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=3127909.msg
Am sure the thread will guide you on how to use search button, so that you won't endup creating topics that have been created multiple times.
Also is it wrong for someone else to discuss what a person have talked about before?
I don't really think it will make sense if a topic is being created multiple times, some people will endup spamming on the forum, if a question have been asked before, then just go to the thread and go and read it, you will definitely get your answer their, why will you create another thread? you are still going to get the same answer provided in the previous thread, so why will you keep on creating threads about topics that have been created multiple times before.

you can start by learning how to use the Forum search button or even Google search might also be helpful if only you know how to use it properly.
here are some tutorial about how to search effectively

I've read a lot of posts and comments on this forum in the past few days but I saw few posts or replies saying "this have been talked about many times before " ,as a fresh forum user like me how will I know if something like that have been discussed before?

Also is it wrong for someone else to discuss what a person have talked about before?

Op, if an old thread doesn't have the answers that you seek you can always create your own so as to prevent waking a thread that has been active for more than two years. [/list]
