before I got married I didn't want my family to know I was gambling let alone my mother, but after I have a new family and get married, I don't want my wife to know because it will make her angry later if she finds out I often spend my bonus money on gambling

but to be honest I don't spend a lot on gambling just for fun except for football betting where I often win so I hide the income from winnings to have fun in the dice roll game

The one point you have mentioned about using cold money is very good but I like the other important point which is not disclosing your activities to the public.

Something that is quite good because your family understands about it and you are also aware of limiting your gambling by not letting the emotion of risking everything in gambling be one of the things that might be accepted. As long as you give what your family wants from a financial perspective, maybe this isn't too much of a problem.
As for the actual public, I still feel that gambling is one of our privacy, there are many reasons underlying this and of course the stigma and things that are still taboo are quite strong reasons.

I am in the opposite situation. :) I don't hide it from my family, but I hide it from my coworkers because there is always a need for seriousness between me and them. Actually, I'm not really a gambler. I only bet on sports events and only on matches that I am very confident about for small amounts and I am not addicted to it because I can leave it whenever I want. So I don't have too many problems with this issue...

Nope, I am not a gambler perse but occasionally, I would try and test out my luck to see if I would win tonight's game or chance. The reason perhaps on why you do not want anyone or your family members to know that you gamble is due to your frequency of playing the game.

If you are someone who occasionally gambles and playing for fun, most likely, you will not be as shy as you mentioned. But one factor on why you would like to keep it a secret is to avoid influencing the younger generation in the family on why you gamble. This might fuel their curiosity, thereby influencing others in this very dangerous activity.

I only hide my gambling activity to my kids as I don't want them to think that it's fine to gamble since that is what adults do. So everytime I gamble, I kept it secret and make sure they're not around to see what i'm doing. It's not a good influence to them and they can't understand yet even I explain.

But this is not the case when it comes to my husband as i'm open with him, in fact he's watching me sometimes when I gamble before going to bed. It's because he's aware that it's only my way to entertain myself and i'm not a compulsive gambler.

I don't talk about my gambling activities. However i have gambling friends and we discuss with them how we can make this business better. My family's approach to gambling is negative. Because they see gambling as an addiction and say that they isolate people from normal life. Actually they are right. If you were able to hide it from your parents namely your mother and your father and your siblings and you are now married you are still hiding it from your wife. Will it not be better to let your wife know if necessary and then let her know that you only gamble with your bonus. Which means you don't spend high amount of money in gambling. Some understanding women will not stop you but they will only advise you to stick to the small portion that is for gambling and they will always be there to check you if you want to spend above your budget

If you were able to hide it from your parents namely your mother and your father and your siblings and you are now married you are still hiding it from your wife. Will it not be better to let your wife know if necessary and then let her know that you only gamble with your bonus. Which means you don't spend high amount of money in gambling. yes I will tell my wife if I win the bet and usually sometimes I buy a gift for her, if she asks where the money comes from I just say from my salary bonus, lol
I hope my wife doesn't see my post here, even though one day she will know too, but don't worry, I still play in small portions because my wife knows about me playing dice gambling just for fun, nothing more

Regardless of the context of the Op thread above. I can understand what you are saying, but providing understanding to children at an early age is very necessary, in this context it applies to all things not only related to gambling. I have a son, but sometimes he tries to find out what his parents are doing. I mean here, sometimes children see, pay attention, or ask what we are doing, especially in terms of gambling activities. there are a lot of ads on social media, be it youtube, whatever it is. children can get information from anywhere without our knowledge. the importance of providing education and understanding for children at an early age.

However, if we speak in the context of Op. There are actually some countries where gambling is seen as a very dirty act, and anyone  found involving I'm such activities is seen as very irresponsible for some factors best known to them.
I personally love gambling and I also gamble most times but with money I'm willing to loss but there is something I hate which is addictive gambling and that act drives me crazy because those set of people can go any length to gamble even selling of properties.

I wouldn't want my family know I gamble and my community at large because there is a reputation maintained by my family and it wouldn't be nice seeing me gambling and that's one reason I love online casinos.

I also wouldn't want my children know I gamble because if we could all say the truth boldly to ourselves, we should know that gambling in general isn't really a nice deal and most gamblers, if not all would prefer a nice job with a nice pay

But in some countries people who gamble are still considered bad. so we are forced to not be open with this. we are more closed to certain people. But it depends on what kind of gambling is being played. because even in my country gambling such as the lottery is considered normal. even minors, such as at the elementary school level, are familiar with it (2000s era). due to traders who introduced it to children at school during recess. I think Indonesians know this (those born in the 90s). I mean the classic lottery type. but for now the school has banned traders who introduce this type of gambling game.

earlier I used to discuss everything with  my friends and people around but I realized that this is not going to help.
the only person who is going to help you is YOU. So I have limited my circle and balanced my life.

If you become addicted to gambling, you need other people. You can help yourself, it is impossible.
Sometimes you don't realize that you are addicted to gambling, your close people realize it and probably remind you. If no one knows your gambling activities, who will remind you when you are gambling in the wrong way? You need others, that why human is a social creatures.

Sharing some of our problems to other people does help us because they can give us tips or encourage us to not give up. I believe that many of us here were once addicted in gambling and we are shy to tell it to others but we are lucky that we overcome it on our own. If you think you can't do it yourself then don't be afraid to seek help. We shouldn't worry because I am very sure that we are not going to be hated or scolded.

It's unlikely that we won't know if we are addicted already or not. The truth is we know it when it happened but we only act like we are blind and continue doing it because we started liking it already. If we are curious if what is our gambling status, we can do some tests online or simply research if what are the signs of gambling addiction.

Yes, occasionally and sometimes regularly, depends on my mood.

I think I don't have any specific people on my list that I want to hide my gambling activities from, be it my own family, relatives or friends. I just don't feel the urge that they have to know nor share to them that I gamble because why would they need to know, right? Surely, I won't be getting some praises if they'll know and I'll just hear some words that I don't wanna hear, so, it's best for them if they don't know.

The important thing is that I'm able to keep my boundaries when it comes to gambling, I just love to bet on said games or fights while watching them, that's all.

My parents also know that I often bet on football but not with my co-workers and college friends because it will damage the reputation I have there. there are some of my college friends who are also my co-workers, if they know I like to play soccer betting then I'm sure they will pass it on to other friends and my boss will definitely know about it, a bad reputation will make me have no career advancement in the company.

Well, mainly my parents. Even though I am married and left my parent’s house long years ago, even though they are an old retired couple in a town now whereas I am working hard in a city, even if everything looks like I am just a grown man making my own decisions and my parents have no say in any of that, I still wouldn't want my father to know about it.

For two reasons mainly, one is intellectual and the second is financial. Intellectual because my father is a smart guy who reads a lot of books and would be disappointed in me if he knew that I was gambling against house edge, something 100% guaranteed to make me lose money, that is stupid but we like it.
