There are rumors about a possible introduction of a metamask tokens for many many months now. In order to maybe qualify for that airdrop i used the swap function of metamask for the wallets that i am using. I would guess that you need to use that function in order to be eligible to receive those tokens. I don't know though, that is just a feeling. That being said it is not officially confirmed yet if there will be a metamask token at all.
If there will be a token airdrop then it really can be the biggest airdrop ever. That also means though that you should not expect to get a significant amount of money with that airdrop. There are just two many people that will receive it and will immediately sell their tokens.

We'll see...  People have been discussing this for a long long time.  The big problem for me is how would they know who has even used Metamask vs other wallets?  That leads to them likely airdropping their tokens to users who have used their token swap function, which I doubt many people even use because there are better options available.  This likely means that people who are playing games to get more airdropped tokens likely will, and the rest of the metamask users will be left in the cold wondering why they've supported a wallet for years who just skipped over them with their airdrop.  Maybe they have better methods of identifying users that I'm not aware of, but I think this is going to be a disaster and more of their users will be pissed off they got skipped for the airdrop than users who are happy with what they received.

I heard this rumor early this year, but still no Airdrop yet.
There’s nothing to lose if you will just try and use their platform just for the benefit of this airdrop rumor, maybe this will be the biggest Airdrop for this year or maybe next year. If you have extra funds or using metamask for quiet some time now, you already have that assurance. Airdrop will still depend on their value though, let’s see if Metamask will still push this through.

It has been very long time but it's not yet even confirmed whether metamask will launch airdrop or not. If the swap is that high then not everyone can participate in this airdrop, I just read this airdrop here in this thread why it's not
 covered by big media outlets dedicated to Crypto it should be a big event or news in the community, but it turn out to be speculation I visited the bridge page of metamask, and it's under maintenance,theres been a lot of airdrop that turn out to be worthless this one hopefully will materialize because of the potential.

You can do with balance 50 or 100$ and just doing it 10x times transaction, how much transaction are gonna to cost ? Metamask support a lot network, so you can spend for transaction under 1$.

Considering that the number of active Metamask users is now about 40 million, then, accordingly, if the airdrop is distributed to all participants, then the number of coins that will be distributed will be too small. Metamask have different type of project which most step scam while the only real and legit one is hidden from most people inother to avoid scams. I was into one of the scammed projects,  Metamask is mostly a scam projects because last year, I had billions quantities of metamask in my trust wallet but it's worth over millions, it's an airdrop which many people participated, but it wasn't withdrawable. They gave us date that it will be distributed according to our batch and section, but I guess they were wrong.  We waited for the lunch date nothing happened because the population was much and the team behind the project couldn't manage to risk.

Metamask launching their own token is good news because it is a popular wallet if they launch their token it will no doubt be a very popular coin among the crowd but the airdrop they launch not everyone will be able to join from their platform.  Only those who have used the bridge and have been doing large transactions on Metamask for a long time will be eligible for this airdrop and will get the rewards in the form of a percentage.
