Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.

I noticed that more crypto words are trending on twitter over the last few weeks. Not sure though if this is real interest in crypto currencies or an increase in scams. When I click on the trending news the top 3 tweets are always from some fake crypto users who are making some "giveaways". They always ask for a follow, like and retweet and in return they will give away some crypto coins. Strangely the tweets always look the same but are from different users. Hundreds of people are posting their walkers and think this is legit. When I look back at the tweets a few days later I never see any winners posted, or there are no users claiming to have won. To me it seems like an quick and easy way to try abf increase your followers on twitter. Weren't all the Elon Musk fan boys already on twitter before he bought the company? I think there is just less supervision now for the scammers and they are less afraid to get banned.

The research also found a shift in interests over the past two years among Twitter's most active English-speaking users that could make the platform less attractive to advertisers.

Cryptocurrency and "not safe for work" (NSFW) content, which includes nudity and pornography, are the highest-growing topics of interest among English-speaking heavy users, the report found.

I would like to see that specified temporarily. Surely, crypto interest started to rise over the past year and early this year, but I highly doubt interest will follow an upward path since June or so. Interest follows price and the bear market we are in doesn't seem too flashy to attract those unfamiliar with this world.

Lol, I hadn't thought of this. I don't have a Twitter account and I only go there once in a while, so I didn't know about this. Let's see if that's why, a lot of supposed interest that are actually agitated scam attempts.

Hard to not expect crypto to be a high-growing topic on Twitter(or any other social media platform) knowing how big the FTX/Alameda/BlockFi/etc debacle was in the broader markets.

The only part in the article shared where crypto is really discussed,
Quote
Twitter’s most active English-speaking users were also increasingly interested in cryptocurrencies, reaching an all-time high in late 2021, the internal documents showed. But interest in the topic has declined since the crypto price crash in June, and the study noted cryptocurrencies may not be an area of growth in the future.

So it's seasonal I guess? I expect crypto topics to increase again in the next halving due to the resurgence of so-called trading gurus and crypto ponzi schemes. Campaigns such as airdrops and social media bounties would most likely add to those numbers.

Unfortunately, we don’t have a publicly available report to us to back Reuter’s private session sneak-peak at the data.  One would normally need to see just how the growth is being measured and compared (absolute, relative, etc.), over what timeframe (weeks, months, quarters, years, etc.), aggregates data for how long, and how the categorization is derived. Alongside a vast categorization such as crypto, it would also be nice to get some inner specifics such as subcategorization by specific coin/token, content sentiment, and content origin (i.e. corporate vs non-corporate) and language. This may all be in the internal Twitter report, but besides a heading (from Reuters), there’s nothing else to go by here.

My guess is that it’s a multiple year timeframe, judging by some of the mentioned dates in Reuters article (which, by the way, is a month old – october 26 – and is missing out all the late fun).

Note: I thought it might have come from this 2022 report, but the content is really 2020/2021 based.

Either way whether if it’s positive or negative, it benefits crypto due to its publicity and trend. I don’t think this is a surprise for most of us here in the crypto space.

Not just on Twitter though, but eventually the trend also grows on other social media channels like Facebook, Reddit, Youtube, etc.

I don't know any project out there which does not have a Twitter account at present, it is like the norms of cryptocurrency and which all investors find useful and important so yeah am not surprised to see crypto among the highest topics on Twitter.
A lot of crypto talk is happening on Twitter and you can also join different twitter spaces to be educated on web3, defi and more.  Now Elon is the new owner i bet he will make it more crypto friendly.

Yes, crypto was among the highest growing topic on Twitter but when it is crypto winter the social media activities of cryptocurrency usually reduce at some point and what put crypto among the growing topic on Twitter is the FTX issue and the current event of the ETH balance on exchanges hitting 4 year low. However, Twitter is a hub for most crypto influencers though.

Is there a statistic that show what topic in crypto is the most discussed besides FTX crash and other scam. Because this is bad if crypto is only became trending due to the recent collapses happening on crypto space.
I don't think there's a stats for this because Twitter provides trend news based on user selected interests.

It means a lot to us but I dont know why would it matter to bitcointalk forum if anything is happening over the Twitter? Certainly community will start speaking about it, they will create thousands of threads to discuss about it's pros and cons but I dont think there will be any technical impacts on the forum itself. Or may be I did not get what impact you might be talking about?

Well as for the twitter, obviously it is bought by Elon so we can expect more inclination towards the financial growth of twitter shares. We may see peeps tipping each other for their tweets in the form of BTC or DOGE!!

It's because of what is going on with the market, SBF news started it and so everyone is talking about it, not just in Twitter but in tik-tok as well. Someone approach me about two days ago and ask if I'm aware of the FTX collapse. This is a non crypto person and then he shows me the tik-tok shorts.

So I'm not surprised by it in other social media as well, not sure what you mean by impact on bitcointalk.org. We are the leading community as far as crypto goes so everything discussed in other media for sure will and have been touch base already.

Understandably, crypto-related discussions may increase in twitter because its new owner is pro-crypto.
And if they will integrate crypto-tipping system, that may really create a hype in whatever coin they will patronize on this platform.
But when it comes to influence to this forum, I don't see the relevance as well. Maybe the OP is thinking that people will send to this forum to learn more about crypto.
But in any case, if there will be popularity in terms of crypto discussion, that would be great for this market, as the demand may further increase.

I'm not following any crypto-related accounts, and yet after the FTX collapse the accounts that I follow made a lot of posts about FTX, SBF and crypto in general. And the general mood among non-crypto people seem to be that crypto was finally exposed as a scam and will be done for good.

It’s true that it also has to do a lot with the hate against big companies in the last months. Still bad advertising is sometimes better than no advertising, since Bitcoin itself is not the bad thing, the bad thing are many crypto related companies.

I know crypto's hot anyway but interest on Google's been declining -- as is usual in a bear market -- so Twitter's crypto interest growing is probably significant.

I don't think it's too much of a coincidence that bitcointalk people don't really user Twitter (and the other way around). However, I have noticed new users to the forum who probably already heard about Bitcoin (and crypto heh) through social media, but I'm not sure we'll see more people coming here because of CT's growing popularity (damn, I used a Twitter term). Outflows from Twitter tend to be to richer media (video, audio, long-form).

Snip

Why should all this cryptocurrency events affect or has anything to do with the forum or bitcoin purchasing capacity when you talked about twitter acquirement, it's just a change in ownership which has nothing to affect the bitcointalk community since we don't base the forum nees or updates from their platform, even the more crypto news is trending the more it is irrelevant for having it discussion on bitcoin discussion since we are not referring to alts here or the platforms that promotes such, bitcointalk is always important and never got altered by these events with cryptos.

The coming in of Elon Musk to Twitter resulted into loosening of many restrictions which were imposed by former guardians of the social media site...hence we are seeing many terms which are now trending compared to previous months. Though has never been an enemy of cryptocurrency industry, it was then doing its manipulations before in the name of protecting the people and stopping abuses using their own definitions of what constitute them as such. The new Chief Twit has been known to be a good friend of the crypto industry and I am sure he will not be using his power to stop the growth of it for any reason. This is actually a breath of fresh air coming from Twitter which has been predicted by Elon's critics to be imploding soon...but so far has not yet and who knows it can even be coming of this episode a lot better.

With twitter changing its identity after Elon Musk bought it, it seems that crypto is (besides NSFW topics) the most growing topic at the platform. Lets see how this will impact the crypto scene and also if there will be an impact to bitcointalk.org

If it's for crypto users then the #hashtag that appears is definitely about crypto and vice versa. The issue of things that rise to the surface on social media, especially Twitter, I think it depends on how people's preferences for what they follow and what they are interested in searching for so that things that often appear must be in accordance with the topics they are exploring. Does this represent a significant change to crypto? maybe yes for the user community, but cannot be fully generalized.

Twitter is a very cryptocurrency friendly platform and it is more favorite by cryptocurrency developers, teams as well as investors, influencers, shillers. It is a more favorite platform for crypto than Facebook.

Moreover, it does not happen recently but has been like this many years. The ownership change to Elon Musk does not change it at least as what we see now.

How many Twitter users have their accounts on Bitcointalk forum and how many forum users have Twitter accounts? Many accounts on Twitters are multi accounts and it is one of reasons Elon delayed to buy it months ago. In this forum, in altcoin bounties board, shit posters use their Twitter accounts to join bounties and did not contribute anything to the forum except traffic.

It is something that goes up with amount of people and not just amount of money, that is why. Stocks could go up because of just one person, bitcoin doesn't go up just because of one person, and that means we are talking about a group effort thing. This means there is a big community behind it that made it this big, and that community has members who own twitter accounts, many of them, twitter and telegram are main 2 places where people chat about crypto.

This results with twitter having trend topics regarding crypto at all times and it will keep on growing even more when the bull run comes. I believe it will break over 100k on next bull run, and we may see all top 10 TT's to be about crypto when that happens.
