A class about Bitcoin is being taught at the university.I am an teacher on there

I got a job in a private university for about a year.  Where engineering is taught.  And I am a teacher of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE).  I had a meeting with the principal of my university a few days ago and made a proposal to teach about blockchain and Bitcoin to students . The principal asked for some time to think it over and had several meetings with other teachers on the matter. And since Bitcoin is an huge valuable and trusted Digital currency and backed by Blockchain which is a advanced technology and Bitcoin is a widely used and well-known currency in worldwide and a lot of research is going on worldwide about it. so all the teaching staff including the principal agreed to this And prepare to teach students about Blockchain and Bitcoin

As this decision is solely taken by our university itself and being a private university there is no scope for issuing any institutional certificate about bitcoin learning.  We keep it as an additional class.  We have one class on Bitcoin per week in a 2 day class routine.  Which is not compulsory for any student.  Any student may or may not take this class if they wish. But I was surprised to see that almost 90% of the students expressed interest in doing the Bitcoin class. And since I have been in this forum for a long time and this forum has all kinds of information about Bitcoin and Cryptocurrency, I took the initiative to introduce students to this forum as well. Also our teaching staff has been asked to study more about Bitcoin and are in the process of hiring at least 2 teachers who are very knowledgeable about Bitcoin and blockchain technology

I myself took my first class on bitcoin today in our university and firstly gave some idea to all the students about this forum because this forum is a good source to get good knowledge about bitcoin and cryptocurrency. And I am very happy today to be able to implement such a goal in my university.

What do they teach? I can think of so many different levels, starting with "this is a wallet", up to the cryptography behind it. I wouldn't know where to start!
Or a more fundamental start would be explaining money. If you do a good job, you'll start a revolution (according to Henry Ford).

As per our plan here students will be given general ideas about Bitcoin.  So that students can at least know about bitcoin, how bitcoin works, how to store it, how to protect bitcoin wallet, benefits of investing in bitcoin, what benefits can be gained by knowing about bitcoin, what are the future problems you can face if you don't know about bitcoin , What role will bitcoin play in the country's economy, is there any possibility of bitcoin harming the country, etc etc...
However, there are plans to hire 2 teachers who are experts in Bitcoin to teach about Bitcoin mining and other difficult tasks.

Paranoid as I am, I doubt the legitimacy of this post.  To be honest with you, the picture looks as if a student opened Investopedia and asked a colleague to open up Bitcoin Talk on their forum just to take the picture.  Particularly the missing student on the first computer and that every other display is on the Desktop except these two stood out to me.

I have never seen a picture of students taken during class by the teacher that looks like this.  This looks as if the student is doing it.

Also the 90% figure which I really doubt.  Wish this was all true.  But I see so many threads here talking about teaching Bitcoin to many groups including kids that barely understand how basic things work in life.  I really hope this is not the new version of 'My really hard journey from Newbie to Full Member'.  If I am paranoid and wrong, forgive me.

Immediately I saw the topic title, I said to myself “not another one” I was expecting a classroom picture with the kids and blackboard like the others we have been seeing in the last few months. This is clearly a poorly arranged show to gain merits. Our friends from certain geography have shown to be more eager to teach bitcoin to family, friends, coworkers and students, seems like other regions have joined in as well. There is a thread in beginners and help about a failed attempt to teach bitcoin in a workplace. This kinds of post have been showered with merits and I don’t think they will stop until the merits stop.

Not saying OP is up to no good, but yea we've seen more and more "here's me speaking about Bitcoin" threads with them receiving a good amount of merits that it pretty much became the merit farming method of Q4. Definitely skeptical as well.

I am kind of confused after reading OP, what you are actually teaching? About blockchain or bitcoin?

Blockchain technology is wide and has more utility case apart from bitcoin and blockchain development courses are already in practice on some universities and online teaching platforms but you are teaching about Bitcoin alone not really anything about blockchain, am I right?

I should have posted a clear picture of the entire classroom to make it clearer.  But unfortunately I didn't do it.  Although I have seen a few topics before that teach about Bitcoin.  There were blackboards and pictures posted with some students.  I will try to make this more clear later.  We have only taken the initiative so everything is not fully organized yet. I will try to give a clear picture when I take another class later.

You’re giving a lecture on bitcoin to a class at the university. If that were true, then it’s great. But at this moment, I’m inclined to doubt your story. Don’t get me wrong, It would be great news seeing lectures about bitcoin being taught in universities.
Perhaps you’re a lecturer or a professor at a university? Or you’re a student yourself?
Lately, there has been threads on here about teaching nephews, friends, pastor friends, and now a class at the university. It’s always good to see people advocating for the growth and adoption of bitcoin though lately, it seems we’re also looking for some sort of praise or acknowledgment from forum members for doing so.

One thing about your effort is, yes it's absolutely great for getting people to know about bitcoin.
I'm getting doubted by the way you teach your students where every computer in front of the students doesn't display something about bitcoin. They should read something about bitcoin where you act as the teacher guiding them with explanations, but it seems you're not doing it based on the photos.

If you actually do what you say in the thread for your students then you have contributed to bitcoin. But if this thread is just your attempt to earn merit or fishing merit, then I think you will fail at that. Honestly it would be a great idea if you and your university managed to spread the word about bitcoin, and I wish you success teaching your students about bitcoin with the right information.

I never know if this is justified in your University, because we were at this stage before leaving the campus, it is customary for the campus to have the standard curriculum to be taught to students, that means teaching Bitcoin is an additional subject (I assume ).
However, most of the people in this forum do not get Bitcoin information through identifying teaching classes like the one you are working on, despite the noble work and dedication that you are doing.

On the other hand, you are introducing something they may not have known before, because people who listen to Bitcoin are different and those who are directly involved with investing, even though Bitcoin is so widespread in some countries right now, I would also like to know which country are you from?
Whatever you do, I hope to get satisfactory results and provide smart steps for them in making Bitcoin investment choices in the future.

sorry no offense I just wanted to give a suggestion.
to be honest i support what you have taught in your university to give lessons about bitcoin. but the last few months there have been too many threads about someone giving other people basic bitcoin learning. so if you're actually giving real lessons at your university about bitcoin, you just need to understand some of the threads there are and after that you apply it to your students.
and it looks like you should give a thorough basic blockchain course. like you write on the blackboard about a more subtle understanding and easily understood by your students. because if someone who is unfamiliar with blockchain will definitely have difficulty understanding if only by reading without clearer examples.
while there is a lot of information about crypto in these forums, you don't need to ask your students to read everything here. it will only make it harder for your students to understand the basics of bitcoin. because we know that in this forum there are lots of discussions about types of crypto and it will make your students confused to understand the basics of bitcoin.

as that sounds like a topic for the economics students not the CSE students

if i were to run a class. i would be setting up a simple data structure and getting students to IP link to each other to send a message to each other where they can set rules on how to collate messages into a basket(block) and then hash the block where they can then request from their peers the hash to ensure collaborative agreement of data integrity/structure

then include the hash as part of the next basket(block) of messages to link(chaining) the blocks together.

this could be done in just a few lines of code as a most simplest expression of a blockchain. and then develop the class from there about how the messages can be secured with cryptographic signatures to prove certain entities and them alone signed the message. and then put a reward system in for the hashing to create a value thats inserted into the messages to transform them into transactions

and thus using true CSE to explain the principles of blockchains and bitcoin

I am aware that private universities are more flexible than the public institutions. I always appreciate people that have the intention of introducing people to bitcoin because it would help in promoting the currency. But like other members have observed there are so many things that are not in place in this your selfless service. You have failed to outline your lesson plan and how you intend to execute them. You seem also to focus more on introducing them to the forum just after the first class. I also doubt your report that 90% of the students picked interest because I am sure that many people still have negative views about bitcoin. I am also glad that you have promised to clear the doubt of some members in your next class. All the best sir.

I don't want to be skeptical here, so I think this is much better than those existing threads teaching friends, neighbors, relatives, pets, etc.   But one thing I noticed, since you are the one who proposed teaching students about Bitcoin, shouldn't you have at least a document of a proposal for why you have to teach Bitcoin to the student?  Shouldn't you create a presentation at least in relation of your proposal?  As a teacher (though I am not),  I believe no matter how informal the proposal to the school official, we need to present a document of request or proposal attached with the iterinary of the things you will discuss with the student.

Let us say you are very excited about the news that you are approved of teaching your students, you could have taken a screenshot of your proposal, planned course, your presentation, and most of all the approval of your dean/school official.  I believe no matter how flexible a university is when it comes to the implementation of courses, there must be a written document about it.  Just to justify what you are sharing with us.  You know, most of the member of this forum (including me) are always skeptical and thinks negatively and find fault to bash anything that we thought is some kind of exploitation of the system.

If you share a screenshot of what I stated maybe many of us will change our opinion.

Congrats, op, on getting a job as a university lecturer. It's wonderful that your suggestion was taken into account, and there's now an optional course on Bitcoin for students now. The turnout is also great, which I hope will motivate the university to make the course a proper part of the curriculum (either as a course to take for credit or as topics integrated into a normative course students take).
I don't normally doubt what people are saying about themselves and the educational work they do about Bitcoin, but I must say that the concerns raised by others sound pretty valid to me.

Just as been mentioned by many here, there's no enough proofs that this was taken from a university and the learning procedures is ongoing despite the screen display the log on bitcointalk.org but there needs to be more clarification about what you did in teaching bitcoin, then you're not been specific as well on the targeted aspect of your teaching, just as we all know that bitcoin is broad, earning has to come up with the instrumentation of the materials used and the targeted audians, but I've got to support that teaching bitcoin is something of great value to beginners in learning.

From what I saw during these kinds of classes at different universities, the teacher will start from the very basics and they will start to say what bitcoin is and who created it then they will start teaching a little bit about blockchain technology because they mostly don't know about the knowledge of the students about bitcoin, that's why it makes sense to have different classes in different levels for other people if they already have some knowledge, but still, I wondering if they want to teach about cryptography and the algorithms.

You are always skeptical and I like that, you always give us another view when almost everyone has a one-sided view of things.  Though if the presentation of OP is true, this deserves more than merit, IMO.  It is that @OP missed a lot of important details and hopefully he can publish proof of what he claims.  As LoceV quoted
