Not many want to go through surgical procedures because
Algophobia but then at some point one need to give up the fear and face live as it is, most especially when it becomes matter of life, but avoiding covid 19 because of fear of pain which is just a lap it two is not wise for me, most especially when the most important lesson most of us learn from Yahoo own story is to have a regular medical check-ups, and take precautionary measures on time.

I am none medical inclined so some of the status explanations sound new to me, but I understand there is an approximately 2-4 weeks wait.  With lots of rigorous tests and routine checks but in all, I know you are going to be fine at the end of this all.

Couldn't be active on the forum for some time due to some family problems. But the news that came to my attention when the forum became active today is @yahoo62278 sir's illness. I was shocked to hear this. But everything is God's will. Human life is both good and bad. But at this moment, only one prayer to the creator is that the creator will give you recovery soon. You certainly know how to evoke emotion in people. My mother has undergone two separate closed-heart surgeries, so I have some understanding of the feelings involved. My cousin spent more than 80 days in the hospital. I was able to visit him for 20 days, but his siblings were unable to travel the 1000 km to another city due to their own jobs and obligations.

I sincerely pray for you and send much positive energy in your direction. God willing, the surgery will be a success and you will live at least 80 more years. Please do not leave us, we care for you deeply. Remember that God is the only constant in life and will remain with you always. ❤"

My attention was draw to this thread as I got approach by a follow country man with discussion to try and see what the Nigeria community can do in helping you with your challenge. I was thinking it was something minor that we can donate something until I came over to read and I'm shocked as this is a very serious case. I wish there was more the forum can do in general in helping well established members like yourself that have paid their dues in keeping this forum active and productive over the years. I wished there was more we can do because this thread won't be seen by many especially those that aren't frequent visitors of the reputation board.

The team of doctors did their rounds yesterday and informed me that im printing high. Apparently that is a good thing. They have considereda heart for me already but ultimately turned it down as it didn't meet enough of their criteria.

Basically they say whether or not i accept a heart unless it meets enough of their criteria and theres an infectious disease risk. Then they make me decide.

I was kinda shocked I had already been taken into consideration for an organ. I figured it would not all start happening so fast, but it is. I was informed they will not just rush into my room and grab me for immediate surgery. I was told I would have nearly 24 hours once a heart is found before I'll go to surgery. Least that's how I think I understood it.

Again, I'm not responding to everyone 1 by 1 as i am typing from my phone and its a pain doing all this  laying down in pain.

My donation addresses are still live if anyone feels compelled,  but Noone is obligated. It's just as nice to see warm replies in this thread. Some people I didn't think liked me much have even taken the time to post a message. To me that is sooooo awesome. Putting aside differences and showing empathytowards ones difficulties touches me deeply.

Second of all, I am not sure if I understood properly what you said... So the doctors will take the decision for the transplant only if they believe the heart is 100% compatible with you and, otherwise, in case they find any other heart, which they don't consider to be 100% compatible -- in this case they ask you if you want it transplanted? Maybe I did not understand well, but this is how it sounds for and, if it is so, situation is way more difficult than I imagined...

So if it is so and I understood well, what will they do? If they find a heart which they consider it is 50% compatible with you they come and let you know about this percentage and ask you if you want it...? If things are like this, is there a minimum percentage for which they will come to ask you? I mean will they come to ask you if you want the heart even if they will say it is only 30% compatible with you? Or is there a higher threshold for this percentage, like a minimum compatibility of 75%...?

I don't know what else to say now... just I still keep you in my prayers...

Is around 90% correct? If so, that still leaves with a huge $100,000 to cover and it is painfully wrong on so many levels for someone to have to go through that stress when they are literally trying to have an operation to save their life (which in itself is extremely stressful).

My surgery is going to cost over a million dollars but Insurance will cover a good chunk of that.

80-90% range is what my insurance will cover.

Maybe knowing a precise amount would help...?

From the way it was explained, their decision is based off of if they feel the heart is a good match for me. They don't want to give me a damaged heart that won't last. I am fairly young and it would be a waste to open me up for something g that would last only a few years.

As far as me being able to decide, it's mainly talking about infectious diseases such as aids, hepatitis, or something along those lines. Some things are incurable so I would have to decide if I wanted to live with that. Unless I'll die without a heart at that time, I would decline.

Far as an exact amount, there is no amount. The donations just help with food, gas, hotels, and other expenses. I have not received a bill for anything yet and will deal with that when that time arrives.

I plan to continue working after I heal up a bit so I will try to cover my medical on my own. Anything else is just pure hey yahoo I want to help make things easier for you and your family type stuff.

Me too - I used to read his post and admired him so much for being one of the top members of the forum.

Been sitting in this dang hospital 11 days now and going a little crazy just being able to lay here. They come in everyday doing their rounds and keep telling me it's a mental game. They have no news, just hurry up and wait. It's frustrating. Also, kind of embarrassing having nurses put a bed pan under you and wiping your ass when done.

I really have nothing else to report or update you all on. I wish there was more.

But why don't you try to fill your time with something that would get your attention that much that you won't even feel time passing...? I suggested you, in an earlier post, to try to read some books. Books are very good friends in situations when you don't know what to do anymore to fill your time...

Another suggestion I have (it just crossed my mind now) is to recommend you to try play some games on your phone, no matter how childish this sounds. Why don't you try to play some chess or backgammon or whatever addictive game you like? Or maybe a game reminding you of your youth...? If you want I can recommend you a nice backgammon application, which has elo system implemented, tournaments and even in-game chat.

Please don't take me wrong, I understand that your condition is very difficult and I have no interest in looking like I don't realize that. I do. And I am giving you these suggestions precisely hoping that they may help you endure time passing... I wish you all the best!

Dear yahoo62278, I know, it's hard... I remember though that, at some point back in my life, I had to face a similar situation. I was in my first grade at the elementary school. Practically, my very first year of being student, a young 6 years old student. In October or November (practically just 1-2 months after school started) I was at my neighbor (there were two brothers and a sister with a similar age) to play and, without having any adult to supervise us, while being in children's room, we got up on the wardrobe. When the moment to get down arrived, the brothers said they will jump from the wardrobe on the bed. The sister (which was 3-4 years older) started to scream to not jump on the bed, because we'll break it etc. Needless to say, they jumped on the bed but I, being shy, jumped directly on the floor.

Somehow, when I landed, my legs were spread apart at 180 degrees, one of them being under the wardrobe. I did not realize that my leg is under the wardrobe, due to the pain of having my legs spread at 180 degrees and I tried to get up. At that point I heard a crack and there I was - my leg was broken. At the hospital I found that my tibia was broken in three places. My leg was covered in gypsum and I was forced to lay down, just like you, 24/7. At some point it came out that first doctor, which covered my leg in gypsum, did not do the correct job when he tried to align my bones so I had to go back to the hospital and live again the procedure. Then lay even more on my bed.

If I remember well, I was immobilized on the bed for two or three months. I don't remember everything very well as it's been more than three decades since then, but I remember that I felt like I cound not stand still anymore. The skin under the gypsum was itchy; I felt like scratching it all the time, but I could not even put my fingers under the gypsum... Going to bathroom was also out of talking about... Luckily, I was small enough and mom and my grandma were taking me to bathroom by carrying me in their arms, while trying to keep my leg still...

Of course, the main struggle was that I could not do anything the entire time. I did not even had cartoon networks channel (cable TV came in Romania in 1994 or 1996 and, while my leg was broken, we were still in Ceausescu era). Romanian television was functional like 2h/day in the morning and 2-3h/day during evenings and all you could see were some news and, maybe, some materials which were not interesting at all for a 6 years old one. I remember that, in some days, with the TV antenna we could watch a Bulgarian television and they were also showing animated cartoons sometimes. I guess that I watched that Bulgarian station for so long that I even learned some Bulgarian.

During day time grandma used to ask a child or two, from our neighbors, to come to us for playing some games with me. While these friends were around time always flied away. I could never realize how fast time was passing and, soon, they had to return to their homes for eating, doing home work given by their teacher and so on. And I was alone again... Mom was also playing with me, of course, but she also had other chores to do, take care of the house, prepare food and so on...

So I was laying there, just like you. This is why I am saying that I understand how you feel... I stayed there these 2-3 months and, when I returned to school, I still could not walk, as I even forgot to walk and, also, my leg was very fragile. It was winter and it was snow everywhere and mom was taking me to school using a sleigh... I lost almost 25% of my first year at school but, fortunately, I managed to do my lessons (in all this while mom was talking to my teacher and she was instructed on what my colleagues were taught at school thus she would teach me at home too). And, also fortunately, I managed to not be held back in the same grade. I returned to school, I got my marks and life went on.

This is the most important thing to remember: life goes on! It gives us many good moments, but also struggles. But, after dealing with all these struggles we become stronger.
