Even before I got married to my wife, she already knew most of my passwords and even my seed phrase to my wallet. It is just in case of an emergency someone who I trust knows how to access my accounts. Marriage is built with trust, and I do not see any problem sharing seed phrases with your partner. I know someone who passed away due to cardiac arrest that even his wife or anyone from his family knows his seed phrase or how to access his wallet, all his crypto savings had gone to waste because of this.

When a man gets married to a woman to become husband and wife, they become one and everyone expects that they can get to share everything with each other. I know of women who have the passwords to their husbands bank cards and they can make withdrawals on his behalf. I will like to ask the Men here if they have shared their seed phrase with their wife's? I will like to ask the women here how they will feel if their husbands refuse telling them their seed phrase?

As far as I'm concerned, I always want to own and control everything as long as I live.  In that case, I prefer to give the nominee of the bank to my wife so that she owns the money when I die. But when it comes to crypto.  Then I am not ready to give my seed phrase to anyone.  Because here the one who knows the seed phrase can control the fund of that wallet. So I feel more comfortable writing it down in a diary and keeping it somewhere secret.  Because when I die, my descendants will get it as a treasure

Trust no one. You never know who and how will backstab you. I would not share my seed phrase, but I will tell that I have crypto and how it is worth. And in case there is an urge to move crypto, it will be done or not after a collective discussion. Why would wife even know about crypto? Husbands goal is to earn money, wife's goal it to take care of family, and vice versa. I was the one to take care about the family and wife was the one that brings money to family, I would not try to get access to family budget.

I'm going to fall back on the literal rule of privatekey, because those are definitely not "shared" key.
As for the rights of the spouse (married), I think it has been regulated in the laws of life in marriage. You only need to give your spouse full rights without your intervention in management.
I imagine your partner would have some level of ownership if it came down to it in a court of law, but them having access at the time wouldn't play into it. They'd simply own 50% of the value of it at the time of settlement. Although, I'm not sure that's healthy thinking for a relationship if you're thinking about how much they'd rightly own. Since, they're entitled to it, and I'd like to think you wouldn't begrudge that considering you decided to marry them.

Anyway, outside of that; I wouldn't normally advocate sharing a private key, and there's probably better ways of doing it, even if that would be a multi signature key to avoid any issues, and it goes back to how your relationship is set up, and your own personal threat model. If you're putting your family earned money into Bitcoin, you aren't exactly entitled to keep the private key to yourself, either.

I totally remember this point so I guess it's ok to have a backup plan and inherit the private key with your wife.

Securing your wallet

Quote
Think about your testament
Your bitcoins can be lost forever if you don't have a backup plan for your peers and family. If the location of your wallets or your passwords are not known by anyone when you are gone, there is no hope that your funds will ever be recovered. Taking a bit of time on these matters can make a huge difference.

For me, of course I have plans to share it with my wife. I really believe in him and the future of my fund with my wife, not infrequently even my wife also helps and supports me for this investment. So what's wrong with that? Unfortunately I haven't really been able to teach him how these bitcoins work and how to access wallets (he left it all up to me), but of course I have backed up everything.

I think that our wife or husband should know seed phrases or other details in case of the emergency and also in case if deaths they know our seed phrases and they can withdraw funds if there too.
By the way i have very little funds and that's why I have told my Big brother all details and also telling details that how is the procedure. And that's good thing cause we do not what can happen.

Regarding knowing of crypto assets details there are many things that needed to be done cause I also wanted to give details to my relatives in case if emergency.
1) First I am not married and that's why my big brother and sister know about my details too. And I case of emergency they can withdraw it. And I ga e them little bit knowledge too, what is crypto and how to withdraw it etc.
2) let your wife or husband know cause they are the part of family and we do not know what can happen to us. And that's why I am going to tell in future if I have life.
3) Make a note and all your files and data and also assets and can also give your family. And if an emergency come than they can open and than can withdraw what is lfet for them.

.....Why would wife even know about crypto?
Ever thought that all the crypto funds that are held in self-custody will not be put to good use if something happens to the wallet owner? That's atleast one good reason to let your other half know what crypto is all about. Everyone should at least consider that scenario before making a decision not to share seed phrase.

The issue with Bitcoin is that in case we die or lose the details of Bitcoin wallet, then it's lost forever. There are already too many bitcoins lost forever because the owners throw them away in early days or lose details of wallet over period of time. So it's mandatory to give details to our next of kin, so that hard work is not lost.

Technically, a lot of users will see the loss of Bitcoin as a donation, and that Bitcoin could potentially correct any major losses by increasing the limit in the future or because Bitcoin is technically has infinite denominations, it could just be used in a different way than it is currently. We shouldn't get married to the idea of a whole Bitcoin, we've already kind of passed that, since most can't afford a single Bitcoin.

However, like I pointed out above ideally it would be a good idea to have some sort of inheritance plan, and that's not just because I'm thinking of the future of Bitcoin; I'm thinking about the future of someone's family. It's the nice thing to do, really.

To me it's better if your wife knows your seed phrase, anything can happen at any moment, incase if you die if your wife those not know your seed phrase then your family members might not be able to retrieve your bitcoin. It won't really make send that your family members are in need of money and they won't be able to access your bitcoin. I think we should trust our wife, why will you get married to someone you don't trust.

Because each Bitcoin user has a unique mindset, the decision to share the seed phrase will depend on their mentality. In general, I do not believe it is necessary to share your wallet seed phrase with your spouse. We don't disrespect her, but it's all about privacy. Normally, I note down everything in a notebook and keep it safe. All of my wallet credentials are on the notebook, I told my wife. In the event of an accident, you may be able to recover all of your funds from there. But, because she isn't a literal person, I didn't teach her everything. I hope to be able to teach her in the near future.

I mean it depends for some couples. My significant other knew that I was holding Bitcoin and I hold one, but she just do not care nor mind about it. Even if I gave her my phrase, she would not open it without letting me know. Some would be offended, some aren't going to be offended .

Depends on how the couples trust each other. I knew some stories wherein their spouse demands to know the bank card PINs after marriage, lol.

Technically, if you're married you have equal right, and say to it. So, it isn't the husband that decides, ideally it's as a couple you decide who's in charge, and who's managing it. I wouldn't say they always hide stuff from their partner either. This entirely depends on the couple, many partners are very open with each other, and trust each other entirely.

Alternatively to sharing the private key you could do a time lock, that does require a little maintenance though. I imagine most users here share a bank account, and most of their finances with their partner. If they want to have separate incomes then that's usually decided within the marriage.

Legally though, the laws see's it as a split, so whatever you have in there, your partner would be entitled to half of it in the majority of cases.

That depends really. Personally I don't they have to know every nook and cranny to your finances, just make sure you don't put your nose around any of their stuff too. Long as the finances are well-audited, kept in check and are not made for stupid purchases, you guys should be good to go not knowing each other's seed phrases. It's pretty much like not snooping at your partner's phone. You trust them to not do anything behind your back, which in essence is similar to not sharing your seed phrases as well.

I am married, my wife knows the pin to my debit card, but for some reasons, she doesn't know my seed phrase and doesn't have access to my wallet.
I think the main issue here is that while I am ready to reveal it to her, she seems very uninterested in cryptocurrency, it's really not her thing. And I obviously can't force it on her.

Depending on the country you live in, or even the specific state within, gained assets are considered to belong to both spouses on equal grounds. Bearing that in mind, there is a legal background to tackle here, especially if one is hiding his bitcoins et al from his partner deliberately.

Another matter is whether you really trust your counterpart per se not to do something buggy with the assets, or even if the person is capable of at least not screwing-up by attempting to move/use them. Those matters enter the personal terrain, and are therefore subject to a wide variety of scenarios, albeit subject to what the legality stated for the marriage.

In any case, one should ponder some sort of contingency plan in the event that something unexpected should happen. When you give it a real thorough thought, quite a few people don’t have it all tightly tied …

They don't even need access to the Bitcoin itself. If you outright refuse to give them any access to the Bitcoin, the court will likely just divide your assets to make up for that. I don't think a lot of people understand what marriage means, and what rights both partners have, despite the partner not bringing that into the marriage. In most countries, it's divided equally, apart from certain circumstances, i.e when children are involved etc.

Like I said before, if you don't trust your partner ultimately you probably shouldn't be married too them in the first place Tongue. I do think that a lot of users think that sharing security information is a breach in security, but not sharing it can also be a breach in security. Since, if you care about that money being distributed properly when you pass, you'll want to do that in a secure way.

I think that even more important than knowing the actual seed is knowing where it is and how to retrieve/use it in case of problems.
I totally agree, that is absolutely the most important thing. Everything could happen at any moment, if none of the family members know about bitcoin maybe they are going to live a miserable life and it could even be possible that someone else may take advantage of the situation: just image showing the seed phrase to someone who knows exactly what it is and he's not honest...
