Yes,, currently, if we compare China to the Saudi Arabian League, it's clearly not comparable. The Saudi Arabian League is far more successful than the Chinese football league. But I think that's perfectly normal,, because even in major European leagues, if a player doesn't agree with the amount offered, they'll definitely refuse. Saudi Pro League wasn't a globally known league before they started to invest hugely to sign big European players, the only way to lure these big players was to offer them lucrative contracts. They needed to sign those superstars to draw the global attention they needed to boost the standard of the league. Now that they've achieved their aim to a large extent, I don't expect them to continue. Deserving players in the league were called up to represent their respective countries, that's a good sign that the league is now considered a world class league. You are right that in the beginning, the Saudi League clubs focused more on signing world stars because they aimed to make the league known worldwide. So the dominant clubs in the SPL were able to connect big stars from European clubs and we can still see that many star footballers are still connected to this league, for example, Al Nassr became the SPL champion in the 2025/26 season, but this team was able to bring Portuguese Joao Felix to the team this season. However in this context, it seems to me that although the SPL teams were inclined to buy the discussed players in the initial stage, they are currently trying to form a balanced team and also trying to connect competent managers.
