Bookman was told to come back the next day to discuss her winnings, but when she asked an employee what she'd be walking away with, he responded: "You didn't win nothing." Some Casinos are just plain fraudulent. So this woman visited a casino, play slot and won $43million. She took a selfie with the amount displayed on the machine. The casino saw it and told her to return the next day so they could talk about the winnings. Next day she returned. Story changed. She was told the machine had malfunctioned and therefore it was what was responsible for the winnings. They went ahead to offer her a complimentary steak dinner. I got so livid reading this story.

Isn't this just the stupidest reason not to give her her winnings?
Couldn't they have known that their so-called machine was faulty before letting gamblers use it?
How could they do this to her?

This is the sickest thing I heard and I don't know what the woman thinking about getting settled for just a steak dinner or she really settle with it. If the casino didn't settle the winnings of their clients then they are total bullshit since they are wreck this one should be abandon by the gambler since they can't pay the winning of other winner. Also if I where the winner I will seek for the medias help if I have solid proof that I win in their casino.

To me this is clearly cheating with the option of offering a steak dinner, no compensation whatsoever, even if it is half of the winnings, do they not want to lose big?

I don't care of the machine was off, how was the woman able to make use of it if the machine is not working, she is even having evidence self because she is having picture.

Why did they allow it to operate in the first play if it is already tagged as having flaws or if it has issues with malfunctions? That's just unfair. Also, what is their basis that the actual winning of Bookman was just $2.25? Data? Then they should show it but still, it is unfair. And the root cause is the casino being insensitive. It is impossible that they did not expect that players of the machine could win big, maybe not as big as the jackpot, so if that's the case, are they simply planning to just void every winnings on that machine? I’m not sure how I’d feel about this if it were me. I think there’s probably more to the story than what we’ve been given here. Keeping an open mind, it could have been a tiny win but maybe the numbers in the machine stuck so it displayed the wrong amount or something else trivial like that and not a real win. If it were a real win and they just didn’t pay out as the story would have you believe, it definitely would warrant further investigation.

I'd sue the casino for telling me that. They should just give her winnings as they've acknowledged her win during that particular moment. But then again, maybe that casino doesn't have much money left which I doubt so they're declining her winnings.
It's certainly stupid to say that she did win nothing and just had given a steak as a consolation. I'd even decline anything they offer except the actual amount or near to that amount less taxes.

In my own opinion, on that day if they will not give me my prize, I will sue them or find a way to investigate or look to the local police to settle my winnings. That is the responsibility of the casino to pay its gambler's winning even if it's proven that the machine malfunctioned, in the first place they should conduct a daily check-up of their machine before opening their casino. SO they are oblique to pay any gamblers who will win.

Yes, this is an old issue but something not that surprising where huge wins had been not paid via simply throwing up these kind of issues.Some say about bribery of Gaming commission?

That's ridiculous. Casino should be responsible for their own machines and maintaining it so it can avoid problems like this. This situation is just unjust and If I'm on that situation and offered steak dinner instead of my winnings, I will feel so disrespected! Obviously, our first impression would be "that was a lame and stupid fuc*ing reason!"

However, according to the article, the New York State Gaming Commission itself claimed that the machine really malfunctioned after the series of checking. I think before having that kind of judgment and conclusion, their respective technical staffs take a look at the said malfunctioning machine.

But one thing makes me curious, why there's a disclaimer that if the machine got fuc*ked up, all winnings will be voided? It seems that it's an easy escape goat and can be used as a reason not to give those winnings once the machine gives some big winnings. If i were the girl then i wont really be letting these things to be ending up on eating a stake dinner.It isnt really just worth for you to deal up on what they had said and believe on what they had claimed.

You could also able to fight or sue them out basing on the situation where they didnt really put up some any agreement or something before you do live on the vicinity.

Not just Katrina Bookman. Jerry Rape and Veronica Castillo had the same situation, casino says the machine malfunctioned after they hit the jackpot. The life-changing moment only lasted for minutes. The casino says the machine is only capable of a certain amount just like in Castillo's case the maximum jackpot is just $20k. Was surprised by the response by one employee on her? I don't think that any machine in the floor is malfunction, if it did then the casino are not going to install it right away and fix it. Or if someone plays on that machine and notice that something is not right, maybe she/he can call any of the staff and tell that the machine is not right.

We have RW here and I've seen people winning huge jackpot and being paid. They are even given a free room so that they can be paid in private at their comfort and then they can go back and play again.
