if eth as second biggest coin could be collapsing then I think the cryptocurrency market will be shaken hugely, the only thing holding eth back might be the fact that it's over supply and even like that there's mechanism that gonna reduce its total supply.
I think eth is definitely safest choice in term of investing in altcoins, mainly because the fact that it's first ranked altcoin.

From all indications, Ethereum has proved itself more instrumental in the development of this industry than any other altcoin. I even maintain that if not that Bitcoin is the pathfinder in this game and has got a very strong fan base, ETH would've taken the trophy from it a long time ago. Just look at the Ethereum smart contract which it started before others and tell me why anyone wouldn't want to invest in ETH. Ethereum is the queen coin while Bitcoin is the king. That's the way I see it.

Ethereum is a No. 1 altcoin but that project had a big change to switch from Proof of Work to Proof of Stake.

Its network now is very centralized and with centralization, transactions can be censored. It is not good with the possibility of censorship, manipulation from centralized investors or groups of investor.

I still consider Ethereum as a best altcoin but investment always has risk.

But we know that a centralized coin isn't that good enough because there is always a risk of manipulation just like the one you've mentioned and investors won't be attracted by such even if Ethereum is labeled as the #1 Altcoin, and I for one, rooting for the Ethereum to be fully decentralized this year or next year. Aside from ETH, there's this another altcoin that has been running in a decentralized ecosystem which also belongs in my portfolio, it's BNB. OP can do some more research besides ETH.

I feel it as newbie you have doubt even on the ETH coin. Nothing wrong in that and I dont think peeps should be laughing on the OP's question. They are noob, they have not tested any coins and it may have happened that they are very very new in the whole crypto process. Altcoins are always surprising to us and as bitcointalks follower I have already seen peeps getting looted in the name of good project for alts. It is always better to keep it straight and ask as many questions we want before investing into any type of crypto currency. Whether it is bitcoin or ETH or any other coin, this is prime question. To answer to OP, ETH is one of the highly trusted alt and we can call it the king of all alts. Good investment, only profitable for long term holding.

I'd be surprised if ethereum as second most valued coin isn't even considered safe then I guess all cryptocurrencies investment is essentially gambling, the thing is there's reason why ethereum is considered safe mainly because it's too big to fail, it's unlike other alts in general that have some measly valuation, ethereum is valued so high that I don't think it will ever be valueless. I think you shouldn't doubt about investing in ethereum because it's just that good, the only thing holding it back is the fact that it hasn't even solved its gas fee problems until now which could be the reason that it's gonna be overtaken by other similar smart contract eventually.

Ethereum is a potential altcoin that is much safer to invest in than other altcoins.  But since Ethereum is a crypto coin, no one can guarantee that it is safe to invest in it.  Yes it is safe because it has a strong team who is maintaining it but no one can guarantee the profit if you invest here.  Profit will depend on your own investment because if you can't invest at right time and sell it at right time then you won't earn profit.  So I won't say that Ethereum is 100% safe. Because if you hold your money through ethereum it will never keep your money stable it can go down at any time and up and down at any time.

It's basically is it safer or not question at this point. If someone opened up an account at bitcointalk and came here to ask about ethereum, then they must know that we are going to be crypto minded people, and we prefer to invest into crypto. There is really no situation that we could consider to be equal or even similar in this type of situation that could be regularly accepted.

I know that not a lot of people would be able to say the same thing in most cases, but that's just how it is so far in this case. And in this crypto world, ETH is by far the best altcoin that we have seen and we will keep on supporting it through tick and thin as long as it shows us the same respect back just as it has done so far.

Where did you get that information? I haven't heard about this, might be another market assumption or something just rumors.

Anyways, whether the price of ETH will dump or pump, people will still trust this project. I have no clue what you are thinking about but there is only one thing could say, ETH is one of the most promising altcoins in the crypto market, and investing in this is safe and won't disappoint you.

I'd say ethereum is certainly safer than any other project out there, it has the liquidity, and its value is quite high, it also has mechanism in reducing its supplies so that at least it will not getting over supply, meanwhile it's also already being considered safe investment for many companies with proper analysis in which certainly those analysis coming from professional. The only drawback for Ethereum is that it become so very centralized now that it will not sit well with some of us. There are even reports that there are a million validators, so imagine that, everyone has control and maybe there could be one validator who has the majority.

But if you are ok with this kind of setup for Vitalik's project then why not, there are predictions that it might hit 5 digits in the future.

So if Bitcoin goes to $100k, Ethereum might see $10k.

have you recently checked the gas fee under eth network? their fees have gone down significantly.

 and besides, there's no investment that you can say it is totally safe. there are always risks involved. now, it is up to you how to lessen such risks. diversify your portfolio. assess the potential of the coins. invest only in quality coins.

ETH is the safest investment among altcoins and we have no reason to doubt it but OP hasn't seen it very clearly which is very unfortunate. Although we can say that because of trx fees which gives some readers to a few traders and investors are also looking for another coin. But this is not enough to think that ETH is out of its potentiality because I haven't seen any altcoins that could have equal potential to this project. Our trust stay strong and the faith that someday ETH will rally back high again together with Bitcoin.

If you enter the market without bitcoin in your portfolio, it is like you have never invested in crypto, and if you want to invest in altcoins but ignore ETH, then I can say that your altcoin portfolio will soon disappear one day.
You don't like to invest in bitcoin, maybe you think altcoin gives you a high return, and that's true, but you need to know more than bitcoin is the safest, all altcoins are very risky and easy to disappear at any time. But you still want to invest in altcoins, then ETH is the perfect choice for altcoins. Without bitcoin, perhaps ETH would be the king of the market.

Bitcoin was 5 years when it was centralized by GHash.io by having a mining pool with 51% of the whole mining power.
ETH is 7 years now and is going trough a MASSIVE upgrade so this might not be the best time to valuate it as whole. We should be thinking where it's going and is the network going to be secure until we get to that point.

Being centralized is surely not optimal but i think people should have more context. Every coin had their problems at some point which in the Billion dollar industry is scary. It's just not unusual as people think.

We don't know, it can be that those unlocked Ethereum might be thrown into a dump by those that hold it. It's been there to be dumped which is most likely going to happen.
Just brace yourself for whatever will happen by that time as that's the market that typically goes. We see the ups and downs of it, and if this is on Ethereum, we'll never know if that news will be positive or not but it's just a matter of a year or two until we see the actual bull run IMO.
