Not sure if there's a market for some of my loaded collectibles or if it's time for a peel and sweep party...

I have never been more supportive of physical bitcoin. I think it is the most important collectable on the planet. Its history in the making marking the rise of Bitcoin. Cold Key was a shocking scam. It shook us all because a Legendary OG we thought we could trust turned on us. Some of you out there even lost a friend over it. I would imagine this is how the clients of Bernie Madoff felt. It is very hard to go through life without trust. We are forced to trust our fellow man that he will do the right thing, and eventually we will be disappointed. However that doesn't mean we give up on trust. There are coin makers out there that base there life on their reputation. This wont be the last time a scam happens to us and eventually we all get burned in some way. But what were doing here with physical Bitcoin is to important. We move on, we discuss, maybe we can figure out a better way to do things, but we push forward.

went with other - for me if the item is close to value ie a 1 oz silver coin for 100 or so (which is still 5x spot price) maybe I will buy funded, make it 200 or up and fuck that I will want a DIY.

I like there to be the option of funded or DIY - I think its fuckin retarded to have "Funded" and "Buyer Funded" when the Buyer does both funding direct - essentially no difference. The only thing that does is risk losing the BTC if the coin is lost.

If it is "Funded" then it should be verified funded from the maker and not from the buyer - otherwise the buyer should not have to fund it prior to shipment.  Hell, the maker should not fund it until the buyer confirms receipt.

Other - I am less likely to purchase any loaded coins now. I am not going to sweep what I have, but would prefer to purchase only DIY coins in future. Buyer funded coins/collectables are not a good idea IMO, if the maker wanted to scam it lowers there original outlay.

I own microsoul coins... I bought them after gravitate's drama... this is part of the "physical bitcoin" history... As Yogg's scam is now part of it ,but I won't touch coldkey cards.
The value of the OG's (or the "pro") is going higher I think (Cas, Lealana, Kialara, BTCC, Satori, OGNasty, Denarium,...).

Aye....will stay the course in this hobby. It's part of the journey just like getting injured when I am at sparring tournaments...you get knocked out but you get up and move on.

And likewise I highly treasure my MTGOX....Alitin and Microsoft as well as coinographic coins.

So scamkey will be part of that collection. I will probably order a custom made frame and place them all in it someday.
Good conversation piece next to my bitbills frame.

i see it exactly the same way. i put all my 120 peeled ck-cards back into the Coldkey folder and think that these cards still have some value just like other peeled coins/bars/chips ...
and as frank said here, it's a piece of history.

I don't own any loaded/funded collectibles mostly because I could see myself having
to peel them to access the funds out of necessity. It has always been in the back of my mind
that I would not necessarily be the only one with the private keys no disrespect to any of the active
makers here intended
. This outlook has held me back from expanding my collection.

But.....with all the discussion around key generation and work flow by other makers it does shed
some light as to what a conscientious procedure should be.

And I applaud everyone who will carry on and support the loaded projects.

Personally I will probably continue holding off on loaded/funded collectibles instead I would
opt for a DIY collectible.

the story with yogg/Coldkey should also be a warning shot for all other makers and shows what can happen when a maker steals the money of his own customers by using supposedly non-existent privkeys to his supposed advantage.
  • then his reputation here in the forum is destroyed (he finds no more trust here)
  • every customer knows the address of the maker (so he could look forward to a visit)
  • the project is therefore also dead
etc.

so don't gamble with our trust and destroy the private key for every new created BTC address after the whole procedure - otherwise there will be the next corpses!!!

Thanks for the mention.  It's still weird to think that I'm considered an "OG" of the community.  When I started I just wanted to make a cool coin someone might want to own.  2013 was literally a dream come true for me and I'll forever be thankful of those who helped me live it.  I couldn't imagine ever breaking the trust I've been given.  I'd honestly rather go bankrupt.

No...  MtGox handled all of Bitcoin's trades in the early days.  They were the place to buy and sell BTC.  There were no other options.  It was a huge piece of the Bitcoin ecosystem and it's bankruptcy is still ongoing.  There isn't a story about Bitcoin's history that won't include it.

Coldkey is an unknown fake brand setup by a scammer turned gambling degenerate who talked his chatroom friends into paying way too much for items he eventually used to rob them.  It will be forgotten and never mentioned in any story of Bitcoin's rise.

There is 0 chance that Coldkeys are remembered as a piece of Bitcoin's history anywhere near the lines of MtGox.  I don't mean to add insult to injury, but someone needs to say it.
