I'm a long-term customer of Coinbase. Had an account and a card with them for years with no issues. Today I received this:

Unfortunately we have to close your Coinbase account. Before your account can be closed, you’ll need to withdraw your crypto funds to an external wallet and your cash funds to a bank account associated with your Coinbase account. If you are currently enrolled in USD Coin rewards, you may want to wait up to 40 days before withdrawing funds to ensure you have received all eligible reward payouts. You will not be able to access these funds after account closure. Please take precautions when transferring cryptocurrency to an external wallet as transfers outside of Coinbase are irreversible. Please also be sure to delete any external references to cryptocurrency addresses generated by Coinbase, as funds sent to those addresses will not be accessible once the account is closed. If you have any questions you may visit https://support.coinbase.com.

No reason why, nothing. Is it common? Anyone here also dumped by Coinbase just like that?  Huh

Contact Coinbase customer care to let you know the reason they want to close your account if you are not the one that went it to be closed. It can be because of many reasons like Coinbase is no longer supporting the country you are and can be because of other reasons, their customer care will help you and let you know the reason.

But how? Support chat bot is not particularly helpful and it's refusing to connect me with a live agent. There is no option "My account is getting closed by Coinbase" in email support menu.

Be happy they are giving you the option to withdraw coins to your own wallet or bank account.
I heard cases of people ending up with frozen coins and closed accounts without any clear explanation, so you are certainly not the only one.
Some exchanges consider gambling, coin mixing and connection with sanctioned countries as high risk, but they don't need to give you any explanations for closing account, it's in their terms.
I would suggest switching to p2p trading and decentralized exchanges like Bisq, to experience real freedom without kyc.

You can use their social media to get in touch with them

https://help.coinbase.com/en/coinbase/other-topics/other/is-coinbase-present-on-social-media

Also know that there are other exchanges you can move to.

No reason why, nothing. Is it common? Anyone here also dumped by Coinbase just like that?  Huh

this only looks to me like certain restrictions have been introduced according to the country you come from. there can be various reasons for this and it is only a question of harmonizing with some regulations.
I would check it, but I would definitely withdraw the funds from there as soon as possible.

Weird, I haven't used these funds for gambling/coin mixing and I have no connection with sanctioned countries. I will take a look at Bisq thanks.

P.S. Yeah it's really nice they're not freezing the funds at least.

There are no restrictions placed on my country, at least what I'm aware of. That's why I was asking if something similar happened to other forum members lately. Then thousands of users would be affected and also somebody would reply here in this thread I guess. So, it seems it's something about my account specifically.

Maybe you've not used the exchange for at least one year, using VPN, create multiple accounts etc that you're not aware and think those activities doesn't break the exchange rules, but most of centralized entity has this rules in their terms of service.

Anyway you're posting in a row, it's not allowed here based on unofficial forum rules, if you want to reply to many users, just quote every users and reply in one post only.

Where are you from? Coinbase just announced that they are no longer operating in Japan and that all their users in Japan will have until February 16, 2023, to move all assets out of Coinbase. If you are not from Japan, but you use a VPN to access coinbase, you can also be considered a user from Japan.
I also have an interesting problem with coinbase, I can only log in to my account when using VPN and switch to Hongkong, if I don't change the IP address to HK, I can't use my account.

It is common for centralized exchanges to do things like these without any warning or reason, you are one very lucky person that your funds were not confiscated, so many people haven't been so lucky and their funds were confiscated by one centralized exchange without warning and reason, and when the users ask for a reason, the support team are never helpful.

By the way, why do you have your funds on Coinbase, haven't you been following the recent events with centralized exchanges and services: Three Arrows Capital, Celsius, Voyager, ftx... Move your funds to your self custody wallet and own your keys.

Try contacting them, but there's a decent chance that they won't provide you with a specific reason and will simply answer with a script reply and refer you to their Terms of Service, which is likely to mention that they have every right to close your account at any time. Was your account completely verified? Have you received anything prior to that? You've at least been offered to withdraw your balance; some other exchange or service could have probably seized your money and blamed you for an unreasonable reason.

Unfortunately, this is subject to happen at any time since most centralized services claim in their TOS that they have every right to close your account without having to provide you with a valid reason.

Be happy that Coinbase forced you to move funds from them and you dont have to wait till "not your keys, not your crypto" happens. They are CEX - so forget about them. If they dont want your money, its their choice. I would not cry much if any of CEX warns me that they plan to say goodbye to me. I would be lazy myself to close accounts on CEX, but if they do it instead of me, you are welcome Cheesy

Unfortunately, this is subject to happen at any time since most centralized services claim in their TOS that they have every right to close your account without having to provide you with a valid reason.
I can find this right to close an account if the user does not agree to the E-sign agreement.
Quote
You may withdraw your consent to receive Communications electronically by contacting us at https://help.coinbase.com. If you fail to provide or if you withdraw your consent to receive Communications electronically, Coinbase reserves the right to immediately close your Coinbase Account or charge you additional fees for paper copies.
Source: https://www.coinbase.com/legal/user_agreement/united_states

But you can find more details on their user agreement for other countries such as:
Quote
We may suspend, restrict, or terminate your access to any or all of the Coinbase Services and/or deactivate or cancel your Coinbase Account, without reason by giving you two months’ notice. You acknowledge that our decision to take certain actions, including limiting access to, suspending, or closing your Coinbase Account, may be based on confidential criteria that are essential for the purposes of our risk management and security protocols. You agree that Coinbase is under no obligation to disclose the details of its risk management and security procedures to you.
Source: https://www.coinbase.com/legal/user_agreement/payments_europe

Based on that statement, I do agree that even if you ask publicly, they won't reply to you, if they ever do it at all. To put it simply, Coinbase might consider OP accounts to have some risk if they continue to allow him to use their exchange, whatever that is. I'd not stress too much and simply move on if that were the case OP, try to find other exchanges or start using DEX to avoid being ditched by an exchange again. Do correct me if I'm wrong.

It isn't fair that you're not getting any response from their customer support. The least they can do is help you figure out why you're experiencing such issues. This is why I still rate MEXCGlobal'S customer support in terms of swiftness in response to customer's query.
I hope you get the issue resolved buddy.

I don't know, but it looks like you are shilling for the MEXC Global centralized exchange, you have made 7 posts and you mentioned MEXC Global exchange in all the posts you've made in the forum. I don't know anything about this crypto exchange, and i've never heard about them before now, i believe it is the same for many members here. Most centralized exchanges have very bad customer support, and i believe this exchange you are shilling is not different; but most importantly, the domino effect from centralized exchanges and services collapsing last year is still affecting the market and i don't think it is wise for people to even use exchanges that are not well known.

Huh, that is weird, because he doesn't have any referral link or anything, and MEXC is (as far as I know) a legitimate exchange, not some fly-by-night thing.  They've been around for a while and I haven't seen many complaints about them on the forum.  Damn newbies, ya know?

And I guess I missed this thread when it was started, but what I'll tell OP is that Coinbase did exactly what they did to him back in 2015/16 (can't remember exactly when).  It was because of a stupid error I made with a checking account I had linked that I closed but never unlinked from Coinbase.  They didn't contact me, didn't try to figure out a way to keep me as a customer, just closed my account.

I can't stand them, even if they are one of the most legitimate exchanges out there.

Call them if you are US based

+1 (888) 908–7930

https://twitter.com/coinbase/status/918525711534538752?lang=en

If you are from another country they do have support lines elsewhere too, if not there are enough places out there to get a US SIM to call them.
As @The Sceptical Chymist pointed out they will close your account for some really odd things. Similar to him I had a checking account with a misspelling of my last name. Gemini sent me an email and CALLED. Coinbase suspended me until I jumped though hoops to get it fixed. I was going to just let it be, but I wanted to keep it open just in case.

Unfortunately, this is subject to happen at any time since most centralized services claim in their TOS that they have every right to close your account without having to provide you with a valid reason.

They're not replying to my tickets. Yes, my account was completely verified. No, I haven't received any notice/warning before this happened.

I suspect that perhaps my account received some of the "tainted" coins. That's the only possibility I can think of.
