I'm using Opera browser for quite long time. Suddenly came across the tab Crypto Wallet. This was something unexpected and going through it, we were able to see the option available to create our own wallet. Have anyone came across Web browsers having Crypto Wallet other than Opera and Brave browser. Are these wallets safe?

I was aware of the Opera Crypto browser, but I had no idea that they had integrated a crypto wallet into the default version of their browser. I haven't used Opera for a long time, this might be reason enough to give it another try.

They are risky that's why I don't like using them, since you can install add-ons on your browsers anything can happen, I have once lost a lot using plugin crypto wallet on my PC before, the ways to get compromise is higher than just running a PC wallet software on your PC, I don't think a day will come where I will use add -on or browser wallets.

Are these wallets safe?

They're probably just as safe as your typical software wallet, but kinda less secure because it's almost like a browser plugin whereas malicious websites might be able to gain access to it. Only use these wallets as a hot wallet, not for long-term holding.

you are probably right here, although I have been using the Opera browser for years and I honestly think that it is the safest on the Windows platform. I would definitely trust their wallet more than Chrome, for example.
I certainly currently access exchanges only from opera and it serves only that and two other services that I need for work every day. no experiments with plugins or addons.

Not safe as most privacy and security concern individuals are saying. These browsers are often used to collect your data from your personal info, and browsing habits down to your shopping lists.  What could be the worse that could happen since the browsers already are watching everything you are doing? Could they even see the private key when you create a wallet or restore wallets?

Opera isn't an opensource so no one knows what they put in thier codes.

I think they're safer and more usable than adons/extensions like metamask. It's one wallet for multiple coins and usually includes a lot more web3 chains preinstalled than wallets like metamask do.

It cuts down the chance of you being phished and Opera are a decently well known browser so it's easier to reliably install a trusted version of it than it is to install one for a wallet like metamask (especially with the potential for scam ads - Opera would be a more expensive target).

Both wallets seem to have good cross platform support too (Opera on a phone and Desktop only need the 12 nmemonic words put in so you can use your wallet on both - makes the nft gaming side of crypto a bit easier - but nothing of high value should be stored on a phone).

I have expressed my opinion several times that crypto wallets in combination with browsers are a bad idea, especially if they are used to store some significant amounts. However, given that this wallet is available in all versions of Opera, for some it might be interesting as a mobile hot wallet. I have not researched the possibilities of this wallet, but as far as can be seen, it does not support too many cryptocurrencies - the list is here -> https://help.opera.com/en/opera-wallet-supported-crypto-assets/

I think they mostly work as browser extension and that’s surely gonna take lot of space on the destination drive. Since wallet needs to synch through the blockchain it will take lot of space and may slow down the browser experience as well.

I don’t know, many of them might be liking it but personally it feels little insecure to use such wallets. I used MetaMask but left it because it feels someone is always watching my wallet.

The trend is growing because they want to give easy access to everything. However we are forgetting that these wallets were made for safety and anonymity. It can get accessed if we are on public WiFi or something like that. That’s just personal opinion

Have anyone came across Web browsers having Crypto Wallet other than Opera and Brave browser. Are these wallets safe?

If you're into conscientious consumerism, it's worth thinking about "safe" not solely in terms of the security of your funds.  Sometimes you also need to consider what these companies and their executives stand for.  Brave browser and CEO Brendan Eich, for example, due to their "traditionalist" (read: intolerant) views, are considered objectionable by some.  I wouldn't personally want to contribute to their profits by using their product.

So long as you treat it as in insecure hot wallet it's fine.
Want to keep a few dollars in it to make a quick transaction here and there it's fine. But for more then that, no it's not something you want to use.
Much like I keep saying I keep less on my phone then my phone is worth. For a browser wallet I have think it is something like keeping lunch money on it in case I want to order a sandwich and don't want to go digging out my phone or hardware wallet.

Personally, I don't use such browser-based wallets as my main wallet due to security reasons. Because it is easier for a hacker to gain access to your browser through some malicious website compared to gaining access to your computer. So usually I use such wallets as transit wallet due to added convenience for trading/gaming. But for my personal wallet, it's definitely not a browser-based wallet.

So if you are holding a significant amount of crypto, prefer hardware wallet and nothing else. Some initial investment on hardware wallets will save you from future regrets.

Browser-based wallets might be convenient, but they are no where near as safe as other alternatives such as spv wallets, bitcoin core and full nodes. Browsers have their own attack layer that is much wider in comparison to a desktop application that is well secured on top of a desktop that is well secured. While it might be great for adoption and on-boarding, it should not be used as a long term solution to store coins.

Online wallets as a browser extension are not a very secure option for storing your bitcoins in my opinion.

The reason why the developers of the Opera browser created such a browser extension is that new technical solutions are needed to attract new users.  The competition between different browsers is very high.

Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies are known to all people on Earth.  Support for cryptocurrency transactions is a great PR move for the Opera browser.

However, in my opinion, it makes no sense to use such wallets when there are lightweight clients like Electrum that are perfectly able to interact with hardware wallets.

This is my take also using web browsers with inbuilt crypto wallets.
Maybe for short term purposes but if you want to store your coins long-term,
better transfer it to your own wallets holding your own keys.
I am also not confident using crypto wallets via web browsers, we all know that this is being handled by certain devs
and we don't know exactly the code they are integrating in this application, maybe possible loopholes or something backdoor.

...//...,,. Are these wallets safe?

img

The issue is that you show (OP) a plug for the traditional version (that has time), Opera has a Browser for games, movies and an extended range "customized" browsers for specific personal tendencies of users, come on! nothing you can't get in any single browser.

They have a browser called Opera Crypto Browser and it configures you exclusively to crypto, it has the crypto theme, news, prices, trends on its main page and of course a wallet.

Let's talk about the product, everyone will have their opinions, but determining if a wallet is safe or not, is above all a personal appreciation of what you are going to use it for, how etc. but there are so many viable alternatives for bitcoin, so, use this type of wallet, only if you are mentally lazy.

Now, the positive part is that the crypto environment wins "autoTune" with several companies, which does not sound good to some, it is normal, but for others, despite being a "Bad bunny", it works for them.

Crypto assets supported by Opera Wallet
It is available in Opera Crypto Browser, Opera for Android, Opera Mini, Opera Desktop, and Opera GX Desktop.

I think Brave browser was the first to introduce cryptocurrency wallet integration and than Opera did the same thing, but I never really tried them and I don't consider them safe enough.
This are all shitcoin wallets probably only for ethereum, but I wouldn't use them for storing anything more than pocket money that you are ready to lose.
I don't consider this wallets safe enough unless it's possible to connect them with hardware wallets somehow.
Opera browser is not open source and it's full of crap ads and junk integration so I would stay away from that  Tongue

It might seem good to see more projects adopting Bitcoin and including Web3 applications on their stores. But I don't think it's a good idea to use browser extensions as a personal wallet, even if they give control over private keys. There are other wallets for alternative currencies that can be used as an add-on to the browser, but almost all of them have been exposed to hacking attempts since they are always connected to the Internet through the browser. It would be better not to use it as a main wallet and just use it for small transfers.

I was aware of the Opera Crypto browser, but I had no idea that they had integrated a crypto wallet into the default version of their browser. I haven't used Opera for a long time, this might be reason enough to give it another try.
The most important reason that made me give up using the Opera browser is that I cannot log into my account on the forum because of the captcha settings. But overall I find it a good browser and friend-use.

If I am not wrong the first browser that introduced crypto on their application is brave browser.
Didn't know opera introduced a crypto wallet in their browser, haven't used opera for a long time. Opera was my first and only choice back in my java mobile days. Operas browser wallet might be interesting for some people but I'm not going to use a browser wallet and  I don't have any interest in installing opera on my pc or phone.

A browser can easily be hacked so be cautious if you ever want to use a browser wallet.

Have anyone came across Web browsers having Crypto Wallet other than Opera and Brave browser. Are these wallets safe?

When it comes to browsers with inbuilt wallets can't think of anything else besides these two, but of course with the aid of browser extensions, users are able to access popular crypto wallets without the need to download the full desktop wallets. Though users need to be cautious with these as the security of your crypto coins is not 100% guaranteed.

Are these wallets safe?

Not a chance!
Safety and responsibility of one's crypto assets lie with the user and as always, like what's being advocated here: "not your private key, not your coins"...any wallet that does not give you access to these private keys is not to be trusted! And with so many chromium based wallets on the market it's best to stick to what is proven to work and gives you full custody of your wallet.
