If I am not wrong the first browser that introduced crypto on their application is brave browser.
Didn't know opera introduced a crypto wallet in their browser, haven't used opera for a long time. Opera was my first and only choice back in my java mobile days. Operas browser wallet might be interesting for some people but I'm not going to use a browser wallet and  I don't have any interest in installing opera on my pc or phone.

A browser can easily be hacked so be cautious if you ever want to use a browser wallet.
I use brave browser a lot of times, it’s my go-to browser on my phone, I would be naive to store my bitcoins in a browser wallet. I don’t see the advantage it has over using a hot wallet like Electrum. I think of bitcoin wallets as a bank that I solely control and that is unplugged from the system. Browser wallets can easily be hacked by malicious links and websites without the user’s knowledge.

I haven't used Opera for a long time. I only heard of Brave browser having this feature. I guess it's interesting that browsers are now integrating crypto, although of course these kinds of wallets shouldn't be used for storing large amounts. One could use if for convenience's sake, especially if one uses crypto in buying online stuff. It makes things a bit faster and easier. But it can't be a wallet for keeping savings.

I'm using Opera browser for quite long time. Suddenly came across the tab Crypto Wallet. This was something unexpected and going through it, we were able to see the option available to create our own wallet. Have anyone came across Web browsers having Crypto Wallet other than Opera and Brave browser. Are these wallets safe?
When we talk about online wallets like web browsers, I am really sure it's not safe, whatever the name, opera, crypto browser site and anything related to online is not safe. I don't know why the developer is brave to build the online wallet in the midst of many scammers stealing our crypto online, it also builds our assumption they are closely related to each other scammers.

Might be good for those naive users who are not technically incline.

But I think it is very dangerous still, cyber criminals might find a loophole to exploit this inbuilt crypto wallets such as Opera.

I have used them for the last couple of years but ditch them in the last 6 months unfortunately. Not that it's not good, but when I switch machines, I no longer need these browser. And if I'm not mistaken, they have been supporting crypto for the last couple of years.

I haven't used the Opera browser for a long time since I got to know Chrome because, in my opinion, it's a bit heavier than using Chrome, especially for my computer and laptop, which still don't have qualified specifications. But I know that the Opera browser already has a wallet integrated with the crypto wallet. But I don't want to use it because in my opinion, the browser is an entry window for all kinds of things that can get my computer attacked by malware and other things. The hackers can look for bugs in the browser and maybe they can also take the assets that we have. So it's better for me to keep my assets in my personal wallet.

Brave and now Opera? I hate that these companies continue to prove all they care about is profit they do not care that they are encouraging bad habits by allowing people to store cryptocurrency online where they do not have the private key. Can we start boycotting these web browsers now? They are scammers and I know that Brave does not even allow good cryptocurrencies only their own brave crypto which is worthless. You will never seen Chrome or Firefox do this because they have integrity. I say Brave and Opera need to be abandoned for something better. Chrome is tied to Google so there is privacy invasions but Firefox is what Tor Browser runs on and there is a reason for it. Convert now.

I am also aware that opera had an inbuilt wallet on their browser, however I never for once considered it for hodling my cryptos having two more secured online wallets is enough to me rather than utilizing a browser wallet whose safety and security I am not sure about or whose vulnerability is unknown, however I will research online to read reviews about it users so as to consider adopting the wallet in the future to hodl some small amount of my cryptos, though I must commend brave and opera browsers developers for the new innovations atleast this act will make cryptos more popular.

...//...,,. Are these wallets safe?

img

The issue is that you show (OP) a plug for the traditional version (that has time), Opera has a Browser for games, movies and an extended range "customized" browsers for specific personal tendencies of users, come on! nothing you can't get in any single browser.

They have a browser called Opera Crypto Browser and it configures you exclusively to crypto, it has the crypto theme, news, prices, trends on its main page and of course a wallet.

Let's talk about the product, everyone will have their opinions, but determining if a wallet is safe or not, is above all a personal appreciation of what you are going to use it for, how etc. but there are so many viable alternatives for bitcoin, so, use this type of wallet, only if you are mentally lazy.

Now, the positive part is that the crypto environment wins "autoTune" with several companies, which does not sound good to some, it is normal, but for others, despite being a "Bad bunny", it works for them.

Crypto assets supported by Opera Wallet
It is available in Opera Crypto Browser, Opera for Android, Opera Mini, Opera Desktop, and Opera GX Desktop.

Opera browser team did a great job supporting crypto when the FUD was still very strong, it was one of the few good news back in the day but the problem is we don't know if these crypto wallets in the browsers are all full open source, why would anyone want to use such wallet for anything because they can keep tab on every users easily. By the way Metamask wallet was better and easier to use on every browsers already, the only way to make this attractive to people is open source.

You're wrong for saying most people are interested with open source wallet, actually they're don't give a shit and not understand what open source is especially if they're not learn about computer science. Most people are interested with a popular wallet and accept multi crypto which is Trust wallet. But Trust wallet isn't secure because it's closed source and ever cause few problems.

Still the best wallet is hardware wallet regardless the coin you're want to hold.

There's no good reason to shove a wallet inside a browser, unless you are trying to make the browser the whole OS of course, such as in the case of Chrome OS. But there are much better (and safer) wallets to use out there.

Not accusing them of incompetence or anything, but simply integrating a wallet inside your browser dramatically increases the number of vulns you'll have to deal with - as more people will be motivated to find them. Why create additional headaches for yourself?

Hardware wallets are still no more secure then a offline wallet you generated because hardware wallets have been exploited physically and there is a chance that their software has a hole and because you are connecting to online there could be a chance with a offline wallet nothing is online so you can only be attacked locally. Hardware wallets are good but I do not think they are the best option if you care about security more then ease of use.

And on top of that, it's dividing focus.  If you try to make your product fulfill too many functions, you end up making compromises, resulting in a weaker product.

So companies like Mozilla and Google will place all of their effort solely into building a browser, meaning they aren't expending effort trying to shoehorn other things into it.   And the people making dedicated wallet software are doing the same.  Every single iteration of the software will hone and perfect that one, single purpose.  Specialised software invariably beats multi-purpose software in terms of performance, security, function, interface and so on.

The same applies in most areas.  That's why Microsoft made a suite of different programs for 'Office'.  They didn't just build a single program to be an all-in-one word processor, spreadsheet, slideshow, etc.  Just imagine, it would have been a clusterfuck of a mess if they had done it that way.

I was aware of the Opera Crypto browser, but I had no idea that they had integrated a crypto wallet into the default version of their browser. I haven't used Opera for a long time, this might be reason enough to give it another try.

The only time i do make use of Operabrowser is on the time that i do consider out their integrated VPN private tab or window which you could really be able to choose on which country you would be getting in.

I have some sites needs to access back in the past and this is what makes interested me to make use of this one.I wasnt aware that they do have that inbuilt crypto wallet.
Not to be that negative but i wont really be making use of these things considering that it doesnt have much feedback.

Its not being tested and been trusted by much which i wont be risking on inputting my coins and be stored up.We dont know if those coins are known or not.
If its non custodial then its good but im not really that confident that much.

Yeah, I have seen the wallet pop up a few times on my opera and brave browser but to be honest with you, I never take them seriously since I know every software company want to develop a wallet extension and this can only increase our security risk and at that.
*It is better to stick to your own personal cold wallet for large found storage.
*secured payment and limited multiple wallet connections that could father expose your security.
This and many more are the reasons I may never trust any wallet extension and even though opera mini is a big company that doesn't change the fact that trust is very expensive these days.

It looks like every web browser is trying to provide all in one application. This isn't necessary, because browser is meant for different purpose and there is no need for a wallet to be developed within it. With time more and more web browsers will provide similar services. Being a reputed platform some might show interest in using these services.

With brave something like brave tokens can be got for what we've browsed or something likewise. The same brave tokens can he tipped. Maybe something similar could make opera users show interest in collecting those tokens.

If I am not wrong the feature on Opera exists for a while now but as someone who understand about cryptocurrency wallets so I am never even take a look at it because it can cause financial loss to us if we are going to trust a browser with our credentials.

And we can't forget about Brave they even gave free tokens for people who are surfing so yes the more companies are looking to integrate cryptocurrency into their working system in some way.

As for the safety of these wallets, it depends on various factors such as the security measures implemented by the browser and the user's own security practices. It is important to understand that the safety of any crypto wallet, including those built into web browsers, is ultimately dependent on the user taking the necessary steps to secure their assets. This includes using strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, and keeping the device and software up-to-date with the latest security patches.
In general, hardware wallets, such as Ledger or Trezor, are considered to be the safest type of crypto wallets, as they store the private keys offline and are not connected to the internet. However, for most everyday users, a web browser-based crypto wallet can be a convenient and accessible way to store and manage smaller amounts of cryptocurrencies.

It's always a good idea to research and compare different options before choosing a crypto wallet, and to understand the potential risks and security considerations involved.

Never used Opera which is why I cannot comment on whether their wallet is safe or not, but it's still a positive step forward for the crypto world which is what truly matters at the end of the day.

At this rate, a day might come when Chrome could offer similar features which could help popular crypto like BTC get one step closer to going mainstream.

There are far better and safer wallet out there and in my opinion, there isn’t any reason to make use of such wallets that are attached to browsers. I think it’s far worse than having your coins on exchanges.
It isn’t completely useless as it could be used for a fast and single transaction.

I wouldn’t personally recommend anyone to use that wallet. It is open to various malware and viruses that could quietly and quickly infect your computer and have access to your files and funds without you being any wiser. Best to use wallets you know and trust.
