Crypto wallet has been added to Opera since 2018, but I found out about the existence of a built-in crypto wallet in this browser later. Well, I don’t know if it’s worth using these wallets, including in the Brave browser. For me, there is no need for this and I would not take risks once again when there are proven and reliable wallets, like electrum.

I was wondering, do these built-in wallets work with hardware wallets? If the answer is yes, then that would remove the security issue.
Read the replies there are many members telling you why these wallets are a bad idea. Why would you want to use a hardware wallet with a web browser wallet? It would still not work and defeats the point of having a web browser if you are using a hardware wallet. If you have a hardware wallet just use the hardware wallet alone that is safer if you use it with a web browser wallet any money sent to the web browser wallet could be stolen. Even if it had some integration with hardware wallets or wallet software like btc core or electrum do not use it. That could compromise your wallets on those software.

I never knew that browsers have their own wallets, but I am familiar with numerous widgets. I also know that it is not hard to lose money when you install a malware widget, that pretends to be authentic. How is the situation with browser wallets? Are they secure or they are sort of a "out of the box wallet that you could quickly use" ? Since it is a matter of few click to import export passwords, bookmarks and etc from browsers, how things are with wallets? Is it also that simple to migrate wallet to other system? Which means someone else can also perform that easily or remotely?

The wallets are shipped with the company that develops the web browser so if you trust the web browser developers then it is as safe as the browser but we are not talking about it being malware or a virus but because web browsers can be attacked with common things like javascript they are a lot more insecure then storing btc in btc core or electrum. Any online wallet has the potential to be stolen from but web wallets have more ways to attack it and they are not recommended and what happens when the web browser developer stops developing the software? You could be without a private key because they generate the private key on the backend and you will have no way of accessing your coins.

I've checked my opera browser right from my old laptop since I am using it since it is lightweight for an old laptop, but I haven't found anything on it. It's because the version of my opera is outdated, but they adopt this because they create their own token. As you can see, it is easy to create a token right now, and their purpose is to gain profit on it. It is also some sort of advertisement to them or an attempt to attract new users to download their browser as they are giving away a free token to those who use it. Though those built-in wallets aren't something I recommend, even if they come from the developer, as we don't know how secure they are, it is better to trust the most established ones.

Crypto is really getting into the mainstream and this time around it's getting faster, if Apple and Amazon have made up their mind to follow crypto and NFT why not any other companies as well? Many more browsers will end up doing the same somewhere in the future, that's certain, but truth be told, these wallet browsers can't be trusted, I doubt the non-custodial and decentralized wallet they claimed to be is not foolproof.  But it's good to see how successful crypto and bitcoin are getting every year.

Not only browsers, I came across one in KM player android app. They are giving away some coins and tokens based on your activity. Some kind of rewards.

And I think that they are secure as long as you are not importing your existing wallet in them. If you use a new one or create one in itself, then there's not much of an issue here, I think. But it is wise to be cautious and not use everything available on the internet. Do your own research before you proceed to do something.

But if you manage to use it properly then you are good to go I guess, but in the end it's up for you to decide.

I was aware of the Opera Crypto browser, but I had no idea that they had integrated a crypto wallet into the default version of their browser. I haven't used Opera for a long time, this might be reason enough to give it another try.
I used opera way back 4 years ago, but it doesn't have such features connected to a cryptocurrency wallet. Furthermore, web browser wallets have a high average chance of being hacked.

And most of the time web browsers need to be updated because if you don't update them right away there is a chance for hackers to get in and steal sensitive information, and so on.

So for me, I won't use that, instead of using that, like you I would prefer the hardware wallet no matter how expensive it is, and at least it's safe.
Maybe it didn't 4 years ago, but opera has one now, however metamask is still by far better and superior. I have been using opera and meta together for years and years now and I have to say that it is quite good and it hasn't let me down in a long time.

I know that not many people think that it could be sane to trust just one wallet, and they are in favour of having multiple wallets and that way it should be a lot better but the reality is that we shouldn't really be looking for multiple wallets or just diversify your portfolio not just in content but also in storage, but I think outside of ledger which is a hardware wallet, this is the best way to protect your money.

I'm using Opera browser for quite long time. Suddenly came across the tab Crypto Wallet. This was something unexpected and going through it, we were able to see the option available to create our own wallet. Have anyone came across Web browsers having Crypto Wallet other than Opera and Brave browser. Are these wallets safe?

This feature has been added to their browsers for quite some time already. I myself use Opera GX on my gaming computer for everything, and I started using that browser in 2020. I have never used that feature because I'm skeptical even up to this day and have only ever used Metamask for everything crypto, as well as SegWit. As far as I know browser-type programs like Opera GX's crypto wallets are prone to abuses from hackers. which made me even more distant with the feature. I can see the intent and I can never be more happier that such feature exists, further indicating that the cryptocurrency industry is much more visible from the outside world than we were told to expect, but as veteran enthusiasts, I think we know more than enough to stay away from stuff like that to avoid getting hacked and losing all our important cryptocurrencies.

We do already have metamask and trustwallet which it had been trusted up by the masses already when it comes on storing up their assets or coins which i do also say the same thing. It cant really be just
avoided for someone to tbe that in doubt on something new but basing up on Opera's reputation as one of known browser out there then i doubt that they would do such bullshit move
about having their wallet to be not that secure or do something stupid. Therefore, its not bad to make use of their wallet integration too but i do still have doubts
and same as the rest.  Cheesy

It is expected that browser will eventually built a cryptocurrency wallets in their web engine because they need to follow the trend and since Bitcoin and cryptocurrency is being hot and a trend for more than a decade, it is actually a delayed action for web browser to have this wallet feature.

Not only browsers, I came across one in KM player android app. They are giving away some coins and tokens based on your activity. Some kind of rewards.

I think many applications are applying tokens as means of jumping onto the bandwagon of cryptocurrency. It is also a way for them to capture users.  Even browser games have tokens integrated for the games, making players gather them to exchange for some in-game perks.

and also this seems to be a trap for those users that has no knowledge about security , because as always , not our key is not our coin.
Yeah definitely safe. Brave browsers aren't as strong as most. You’d be better off with MetaMask. Opera is much better both as wallet and browser and I can vouch for it.
opera user here , though I also have Brave but only uses for forum purposes and not for surfing or other way.

Opera crypto browser looks exactly like classic Opera browser, so, wallet isn't available for classic users. This screen is from Opera Crypto Browser.
But classic Opera browser has an option of securing crypto address when you copy it to clipboard.

Not only browsers, I came across one in KM player android app. They are giving away some coins and tokens based on your activity. Some kind of rewards.

Pretty, didn't know it. But browser is more practical, we rarely download and open videos via video players on our smartphones and even on your computers because of modern high speed internet and improved video-streaming platforms.

I am also aware of this because have seen this months ago but asking if this is safe to use? that is the thing that we cannot be assure and also never trust a wallet that you don't own your key.
Opera is a web browser that's into business for decades and still stands on top. If you want to store all of your funds, then definitely you can't trust this browser with that purpose and you truly need to control your keys and have more secure environment but if you want it as a hot wallet for fast transactions, then why not? What's wrong with it? Why do you think that Opera will steal your bitcoins and ruin their reputation?

I'm more interested in using metamask than the default browser wallet, well even though it might look safe but there could be loopholes that we don't know about or are still in the testing phase, so I'm just looking for safety, namely using metamask to prevent unwanted things

I'm not sure, but I think that this topic was created specifically because Opera integrated a crypto wallet into their regular browser, and it should not be confused with the Opera Crypto Browser, which is an entirely different product.

You can see here that Opera browser comes with a Crypto Wallet as one of its standard features:
https://www.opera.com/features

Anyway, like I mentioned, it's been a while since I used the Opera browser, so I think it's high time I gave it some attention again. I'll try it out as soon as I get a chance.

Anyway, like I mentioned, it's been a while since I used the Opera browser, so I think it's high time I gave it some attention again. I'll try it out as soon as I get a chance.

Oh, I'm sorry, that's right. Opera Wallet is just an extension and for classic version of browser you have to install it manually while the Opera Crypto Browser comes with built-in Opera Wallet extension. But major difference here is that Opera Crypto Browser (Let's call it OCB) will be released as open source soon. [SourceOpera Blog] This is a necessary step to make users feel more confident to use OCB. I think it can be a good browser, especially if they release source soon to clear doubts. Additionally, OCB offers Crypto Corner that looks really cool, like all-in-one service for crypto traders, enthusiasts and news/tweet seekers.

I really think to use this browser exclusively for crypto related tasks, including this forum, Binance and other platforms.

Pretty, didn't know it. But browser is more practical, we rarely download and open videos via video players on our smartphones and even on your computers because of modern high speed internet and improved video-streaming platforms.

Yeah, and maybe this is their own approach in order to gain more users. YouTube, Netflix, Amazon Prime and what not. So I think this is a clever approach from KM Player to get some new and old users back to their platform. They have added in app YouTube watching too. Well, what you know, cheeky bast*ards. And no one will give on some free crypto right. Not to mention you are gaining it from doing what you do everyday. I am not here to promote KM player or anything, just saying that this is a very clever approach with the ongoing trend.

I do remember about Brave browser which you could potentially get some BAT awards on seeing those ads or articles or something like that which this is one of the browser who had first integrate out that wallet but

only for solely for BAt but this time there are other browsers already having their own inbuilt crypto wallet.Im aint sure if these are non custodial ones or you do have the full access of its keys or not.
Basing up with the current existing web wallets we do have specially Metamask and trustwallet then it would really be hard on snipping out users to make use of their dedicated wallet too
but i do agree into that point about trying to hook up users once again on using up their browser.

I'm more interested in using metamask than the default browser wallet, well even though it might look safe but there could be loopholes that we don't know about or are still in the testing phase, so I'm just looking for safety, namely using metamask to prevent unwanted things
Although it was primarily intended to store Non-fungible Tokens, Metamask is a secure way to store cryptocurrency. There is nothing like duplication of Non-Fungible Tokens. NFTs were significant and secure in Metamask, and it also degenerated an NFTs with full access from the owners. Recognizing the reality that web browsers have improved, adding integrated crypto wallets was a tremendous adoption. The use of bitcoin wallets by web browsers was a move that website moderators warmly welcomed. With complete user pleasure, it will lessen their up-and-down stress.

I have the Brave browser installed, but I'm not using it because I find Chrome's synchronization convenient. Thus, it's practically impossible for me to ever give up Chrome's features and switch browsers. I had tried it, however, but when I tried to synchronize my phone's browser with my computer's, it asked to connect with a Gemini or Uphold account, both of which required KYC. Moreover, if I'm not mistaken, it was also a requirement to withdraw or save your BAT to a wallet.

Back to the subject now, the Opera browser often had similar services, such as a VPN, which is handy but can also be added to other browsers with a simple extension. The same thing applies to the integrated wallet, which I personally wouldn't use.
