Back to the subject now, the Opera browser often had similar services, such as a VPN, which is handy but can also be added to other browsers with a simple extension. The same thing applies to the integrated wallet, which I personally wouldn't use.
It's not a surprise that only those which are not that much popular are providing some kind of free services in order to make their platform famous again. And in my opinion, most of the people uses chrome, and they will stick to is no matter what. So if chrome ever decides to implement any of their own wallet or free token collection system, people will use it, no doubt. And the availability of extensions is the main reason many doesn't use the new built-in wallets. Whatever they are trying to achieve doing this, they won't be that much successful.

I am also aware of this because have seen this months ago but asking if this is safe to use? that is the thing that we cannot be assure and also never trust a wallet that you don't own your key.
Opera is a web browser that's into business for decades and still stands on top. If you want to store all of your funds, then definitely you can't trust this browser with that purpose and you truly need to control your keys and have more secure environment but if you want it as a hot wallet for fast transactions, then why not? What's wrong with it? Why do you think that Opera will steal your bitcoins and ruin their reputation? lol , why do i need to trust this browser just because they are up for years when we knew how internet and browser being damaged reputation over the years? and also why risk my funds when I can use a different wallet such as paper wallet or offline wallet like ledger or trezor to keep my funds safer?

I'm using Opera browser for quite long time. Suddenly came across the tab Crypto Wallet. This was something unexpected and going through it, we were able to see the option available to create our own wallet. Have anyone came across Web browsers having Crypto Wallet other than Opera and Brave browser. Are these wallets safe?
Brave browser has their token $BAT as reward for their users but they will have to KYC to claim rewards. I don't mind to use cryptocurrency wallets built up and provided by web browsers. Fundamentally I don't believe in web browsers and their activities to collect our data when we are using those browsers on Internet. If I can not trust them with web surfing data, I don't have reasons to trust them with my private keys, mnemonic seeds. I have more reasons to don't use them because they are late comers in cryptocurrency wallets and with available older cryptocurrency wallets, those newborn wallets from web browsers are not attractive with me. Brave browser tried to attract users by running reward in their token but with above reasons, I don't KYC with Brave to claim reward.

I also frequently use Opera Browser. And since last year I realized that the Opera browser also has its own Wallet available. I also remember that there are other browsers that have a built-in wallet. but I forgot the name of the browser. Maybe Misses Browser is also one of them. but only for $Miss coins I guess. or maybe I'm wrong because Mises Browser requires existence like metamask. I forgot because I haven't used it for months. but every browser on a cellphone that can download Existence can definitely download wallets like the Kiwi browser and Mises. but the one that carries the default Wallet directly is probably the Opera Browser that I remember and another that I have used but I forgot the name. still trying to remember.

As we keep using technology, more such services will be delivered to users for ease of convenience. But at every point of time, there are two basic rules that we should keep in mind while using cryptocurrencies. 1. Hold your keys to your coins. 2. Keep your wallet and keys isolated. So here the second point is getting breached. Using these web wallets are very risky since they are not isolated from the device which we use regularly.

So far, I have downloaded Opera Crypto Wallet since my first post in this thread, like it with some nice features and today, I decided to open and test this browser again and I discovered a great feature that you can check yourself too. Here I type 0.0001 BTCIf you select the underlined area above, Opera Crypto browser will show you the live price of that number of bitcoins, like this: You can try it on another numbers for fun: 0.024 BTC 0.1512 BTC You can also get price of other altcoins, for example: 1 LTC 1 ETH 1 BCH

I'm also aware that opera has a built-in wallet, but I've never thought about using it to store my cryptocurrency because I already have two secure online wallets. I prefer not to use a browser wallet whose security and safety I don't know about or whose vulnerability is unknown, but I will do some research online to read user reviews so that I can think about using the wallet in the future to store a small amount of my cryptocurrency.

I still can't believe that Bitcoin hasn't gotten a web browser wallet that can log you into websites using your Bitcoin address the way that metamask (and now others) has been adopted by the web3 community. Shocking nobody has built it yet. Almost even a little disgraceful that we aren't logging into this website by signing a message with our wallets or something. It's like actual real world development of Bitcoin stopped half a decade ago but nobody noticed because the number keeps going up so who cares... Hopefully if web browsers building crypto wallets is becoming more popular, one of them will take it upon themselves to bring Bitcoin up to 2016 tech expectations.

I stopped using opera browser the same time they announced they support crypto wallet, opera browser is good for one thing, background tracking, I knew this in those days where Symbian phones are top on the chart, I don't think it's a good choice for storing your crypto asset, there is also no prove that the opera crypto wallet is open source so you are on your own if you trust a company like an opera.
I also have bad experiences with browsers in the past, like passwords getting compromised due to the developer's stupidity or maybe even not, so how can I ever trust my crypto wallet with such company?
If Bitcoin has a web wallet that people can use online I believe that many more Bitcoin would have been lost, it's easier to mess things up with web wallet, I have a friend who is a app developer and he always brag about how anything running on the browser can be hacked easily using some codes as injectors.

I am also using Brave Browser as a default because of its ad blocking advantage. The default wallet integration in the browser looks good, but in my opinion, it is really not safe at all if you save it. property storage. The problem of collecting user data is quite painful, and I will tell you that one day your wallet will be hacked without knowing where the problem is. So it is still best to store crypto assets on a hardware wallet; at least it is famous and less risky than using the wallet available in the browser.

Since my last Opera upgrade to the latest version, I've noticed the browser, but I always overlook it since I don't have much of a use for it, and these days I'm just trying to be more careful with the kind of wallet I get myself involved in so as not to get my funds stockpiled somewhere some day. I still can't believe that Bitcoin hasn't gotten a web browser wallet that can log you into websites using your Bitcoin address the way that metamask (and now others) has been adopted by the web3 community. Wow, that's so true. I tried searching to see if I could find any, but it all led to a dead end. But I guess that might actually be some developer somewhere having those kinds of thoughts on how to actually do that, or they might have tried building it but the Bitcoin blockchain doesn't allow them to, or it might be as a result of lesser demand for it. I believe people are careless of such things, especially when it comes to their funds protection. just my guess anyway.

Snip I think Opera Browser was the first browsing app I saw having crypto-related services like a crypto wallet, performing some kind of airdrop, and other ways to earn cryptos. I cannot say it's wrong for them or any other browser to do so; perhaps it's their service; let them design what they want and let crypto users make the choice to use it or not; but I will really advise people against it, because while I used the Opera browser crypto wallet to save some shitcoins back then, after I lost my phone, I collected my seed phrase and tried to back up the wallet to another wallet app but it did not work. I tried a lot, but it was not working. I don't know why, but I just concluded that either I mistakenly copied the phrase or it's from their programming system. And even after I got another phone, I did not use Opera browser for anything, not even browsing.

Actually there's a couple. Development on the first once started years back. They're not very popular but they do exist. The one I use is called Freeport. Looks like it was last updated in Oct 2022. Its a Chrome extension that uses the Counterparty API (its more for tokens but doubles as a BTC wallet): There's a couple other Counterparty projects where you can log into a site by signing a message from your registered address, but as far as general Bitcoin stuff goes, yeah nobody uses it like Metamask.

As it seems, Opera stopped working on Opera Crypto Browser. They were planning to make Opera Crypto Browser open-source browser and I would really love to see it. Who doesn't want to see source of Opera? Of course, everyone does, it would be one of the best open-source browser but sadly, they discontinued it. They added Crypto Browser features to regular Opera browser and delisted Opera Crypto Browser. Since March 14, 2024, they no longer support updates for this browser. It's not recommended to download Opera browser, let alone a browser that doesn't receive updates but anyway, if someone still wants to test it, you can access it here (it's not available on their website): https://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera_crypto/
