the casino betnomi provides the platform where all participants can put on their pokerface and Icarus will reward all participants who will sit at the final table with a special physical Icarus card
you can admire the design (front and back) of the card already now:

this thread will primarily be used for the many discussions around the tournaments but also (in this phase now) to discuss with you the rules like how many games, on which days, buy-in, blinds, stakes etc.
the finalized rules i would write down in the second post then

i hope now that we (icopress and me) will see old but also new faces who want to play with us at the tables for the chips
icopress will support me with the whole organization and will also be the one who will be in contact with the betnomi ceo so that everything can run smoothly.

Also, I suck at poker but I'll put a prize on my head each week to the tune of 0.015BTC which means that if you take me out in any of the weeks you are basically freerolling the rest of the tournament.

That are some good news! I'm looking forward to it again and will certainly be there - just like in the old days with SwC! ;-)


However, I still have a few questions:

- What format will there be - mainly a tournament on Sunday?
- A series with leaderboard? I just think of the events from before.
- Buyins?
- Were there any updates to the Betnomi client? I can remember that 1 1/2 - 2 years ago there were often bugs or you were disconnected from the connection and thus left some chips.
   That would be very counterproductive in this case.

I would be happy to see old faces here. I think especially of @efialtis

Yes, I'm leaning towards 6pm UTS (but that's still an open question).

I'm thinking about having a 5 week tournament (4 games + final table). And restart. The problem of the last tournament was that after 4 weeks some users stopped playing because they did not see the prospect of making it to the final table. A strategy to reduce in-game weeks should fix this issue (I think).

I think that 1mBTC would be feasible for everyone. I wouldn't set it too high, as it could scare off potential players.
Since I assume that Betnomi as a sponsor will certainly contribute something, the prize pool will probably be attractive enough.

That sounds good. Then it looks like they put a lot of effort into updates.
I don't want to bash it in any way before I've tested it again... just in the past it wasn't a nice gaming experience. I'll take a look this weekend, I'm curious how the traffic looks there at all.

Thanks for the PM. Finally a new Bitcointalk Poker Series. Awesome. Since I have already played in several poker tournaments on Bitcointalk in the past and always had a lot of fun, I would of course also participate in this series (if my time allows it).

I would agree, depending on how many dollars one Bitcoin is worth when the tournament series starts, 1mBTC might be a bit high - although I personally think that amount is best.

That was for example the reason why I could not participate in the last tournament series. I simply didn't have time on all dates and then decided that it doesn't make sense to play only about half of it. Make it short, fun and then restart. I personally wouldn't make it longer than five weeks, but it's up to you guys. I just hope that enough members can be found who want to participate in the tournaments.

Looking forward to this one. Why not let anyone join the final tournament? The better player did in the series the more starting chips he'd start in the final, that will give him the advantage of course but also won't discourage others to stop playing the series.

i would also be for a buy-in of 0.001BTC and i would set the stakes somewhere between 5k-10k
18:00 cest would be a perfect time for the european players and in the states it would be sunday between 9:00 and 12:00 ... so you could sit at the poker table with a cup of coffee
as far as the platform is concerned, i'm not worried. the whole website was redesigned recently and as i read icopress post, he has already played a few tournaments without any problems.

Thank you for organizing a new poker series. If I have enough time, I will participate in the games again. So far, series like this have always been very good and a lot of fun. Hopefully many people will participate again. I'm particularly looking forward to seeing old faces again, but of course also to new ones.

At the current price of $23,816.67, that would be almost $24. Sure, many of us can afford it, but it seems a bit high and I'm afraid it doesn't get many participants to the tables. Especially if you play all the games in a series, you can quickly reach $100 to participate. So I would go for something like $10 or even a freeroll to attract players in the first new series. This could result in more people getting involved and continuing to play even when the odds of winning are slim.

Disagreed with CoinEraser, lower than 0.001 makes it quite uninteresting - unless you offer a few tournaments running at the same time with a lower buyin.

If this would result in a series with a leadboard etc, that would indeed be amazing and you could count me in.
Not sure if I missed it - can't find any info on the time-schedule; when is this supposed to start.

This poker tournament is a popular tournament for bitcointalk forum members and I don't think any gambler who is also a member of this forum will ever miss it.
Maybe it would be very exciting if you could participate, but not all gamblers can play great poker.
Therefore, we can watch the tournament alone, which is a pleasure in itself where we see several players with amazing techniques and ways to play poker.
It's not that $10-$15 is a nominal amount which is quite a bit whereas if we really believe and like it maybe we can raise it back to $40-$50, I'm just giving a little input and all choices are still in your own hands.

I have been playing poker on this site and have to say that I love their engine, It will be awesome to participate in the tournament against other forum users.

I will follow this thread and be patient until the tournament starts.

It would be nice if the game mode is KnockOut to make some extra money while we scale up positions.

i don't have to explain texas hold'em poker to you explicitly, do i?

everything else is not so difficult and you need the following:

• Betnomi account (is free and only requires an email address)
• your entry (buy-in) of e.g. 0.001BTC (when depositing the amount you would then dm'ed the password for the tournament)
• good luck and a great poker face
• if you make it to the final table, your Icarus card will be yours for sure

If you've never played poker before, it's best to start by familiarizing yourself with the rules of Texas Hold'em poker.

After that, you may start at one of the many poker websites with play money to get an idea of the game (I think Betnomi also offers play money poker games - so you don't have to register on various websites).

And then just play a few times. I can't imagine that the skill level will be too high in our poker round. Therefore, I am sure that everyone has a pretty big chance to get to the final table and win one of the great prizes.

What should perhaps also be clarified beforehand -besides the buyin - would be the structure.

Hyper Turbo, Turbo or rather a "slow" structure with deep stacks?
Game mode should actually be clear - NLH (No Limit Hold'em)

But maybe some still feel like a side event with PLO or other variants?

Since no exact date was announced, there is still enough time. But this should be clarified in any case so that there are no misunderstandings
