It is truly boring without mining,I feel a sense of confidence when I see my rig lights and GPU spinning while I feel empty when I see them turned off  Grin.

I am feeling the same. Grin

Which coins are you mining nowadays?
I mine ETHW on AMD graphics cards.
For nvidia, I try to choose profitable coins from the site https://www.hashrate.no/

the next generation after gddr6x. 2xxx is a bear market series 4xxx is a bear market series. 5xxx series is the target, you can't rush things hehe
In the bull market, even old graphics cards were profitable, but we don't know if the 2000 and 3000 series will be profitable in 2024 or later when the Nvidia RTX 5090 comes out.

I think AMD doesn’t get the credit it deserves for being able to produce graphics cards that profitably mine for far longer than Nvidia cards. That being said, I haven’t kept up with what AMD is pushing nowadays as Nvidia cards seem to be much more popular for some reason. The 4070 might be a good card, but I think awaiting the next release by AMD might not be a bad idea given the current market situation.

The reason I think Nvidia is more popular is because when you make a rig let's say full of Nvidia same cards or even different series like the 2000 and 3000 put together and configure them properly then with these series you rarely need to restart them or they rarely give you any problem, they run for days, weeks and months without the slightest problem and that is my personal experience with them.

With AMD I have been working longer and in my early days I like most of us have only mined of them but never had the same performance and stability as Nvidia has for the latest generation cards, that is just my experience though.

Yes i agree. Nvidia is popular because it is easy to start up but with amd it is difficult start up. I spend alot of time for polaris gen then rdna gen. Once you adjust everything good amd is also stable works weeks without problem.

It's a lot cheaper to buy the crypto. You want noise and expenses?

BTW. I don't care if your intrested. You ask and you get an answer.
If you live in an apartment without a balcony, then I do not advise you to engage in mining. Indeed, the noise will disturb you.
I paid off my investments in mining a long time ago, I have real estate where cheap electricity is 5 cents, I have video cards, and I want them to work and mine coins for me.
It is probably more profitable for a beginner to buy coins now, and I want to mine coins.

I heard AMD drivers are incredibly good since the 5700XT days. It has less overhead compared to NVIDIA, and with most drivers updates, they give performance increases. Depending on how you look at that, you can say that buying AMD cards might be better for your bucks, especially if you use them for gaming purposes. The problem is that most people don't want to risk trying AMD again, so they keep believing that AMD has bad drivers even if NVIDIA has more or less the same issues.

With AMD I have been working longer and in my early days I like most of us have only mined of them but never had the same performance and stability as Nvidia has for the latest generation cards, that is just my experience though.
That is interesting. I've seen many complaints about NVIDIA releasing too many hotfix drivers that screw up gaming/content creation activities, but I guess it doesn't affect mining performance that much. Have you ever experienced a performance increase from driver updates? If there is not a substantial increase in performance. Maybe a driver update is not necessary after all, as stability matters more. CMIIW.

I have never seen a performance upgrade from the driver updates but those driver updates were requirements from the mining software like lolminer etc that needed the last driver to continue performing with the same stability and performance.

I don't know about gaming/rendering performance from the driver updates but for mining with Nvidia 2000 or 3000 series it is basically a set and forget experience even if you are running a not that stable operating system like Windows is and I am running my rig in Windows 10.

Of course, the developer of the miners writes which version of the drivers to use. Even in our forum section, some miners complained about the low hashrate until they thought of reading the readme file and updating the drivers. But the problem is that many developers do not optimize software for 1000 and 2000 series.

I see. Is there any reason why the mining software requires the latest driver if there is no performance improvement then? Can't they just continue developing on the stable version/previous version and then just release a new one if there a driver updates that change the performance/efficiency or something similar? Or do miners always update their GPU drivers so they have to always keep it up with them?

Of course, the developer of the miners writes which version of the drivers to use. But the problem is that many developers do not optimize software for 1000 and 2000 series.
I can understand why they always optimize for the latest generation graphic cards since miners (at least the big ones) will buy the latest cards when it is available. Unfortunately, the same thing happens when it comes to gaming performance updates for older cards. It seems manufacturers like Nvidia and AMD are trying to push users to buy their latest cards and sacrifice their user satisfaction for short-term gain.

That is also only a Nvidia thing I have to explain,I have been mining ETC with Rx 570/580 with the Blockchain driver for many years and never had a problem about drivers update but with Nvidia I think the miner software needed to be continuously updated with the latest driver in order to have stability, with the old drivers sometimes strange things happened, for example I have a Rtx 3060 ti non LHR and with the old drivers sometimes it got to LHR hash rate or even locked the complete mining rig,so once I updated the drivers no such problems happened and I had the miner running for many days, weeks and even months without a single restart using a non stable OS like Windows 10.

I sell my old video cards to gamers and most of the younger gamers use old video cards and 4-6 generation intel core processors. I myself play on an old video card, although I can buy the latest GPU.
For old video cards, you do not need to install new drivers, because the performance will not be better, and maybe even worse.

I think if you’re buying equipment for the future you obviously need to be buying the newest hardware on the market possible. There are really only 2 companies to choose from also. You have AMD or Nvidia. I prefer AMD to be honest but Nvidia is more popular overall. I’m debating grabbing a couple new AMD GPUs myself but it’s hard to spend BTC knowing it’s about to appreciate so much.

I know that feeling of conserving the Bitcoin but I think you can put it to work, after getting your cards no matter what you choose AMD or Nvidia the newest gadgets are powerful enough to bring good results in mining the cryptocoins not yielding a profit in fiat, you can then dual mine you favorite Ethash coin and you can add ZIL as a secondary coin.It is exactly this secondary coin which you can stake in different places,I personally use Atomic Wallet and get up to 15% applied yearly interest and this way you can start recovering little by little the spent amount.

New graphics cards are still very expensive. If you believe in coins that need a powerful GPU core to mine, then Nvidia's 4000 series wins. But we do not know how the new video cards will work in mining and the 16pin connector causes great concern for many miners.

Check out some interesting statistics
https://hiveon.com/statistics/
The nvidia 3000 series is quite popular with miners, and AMD still mines a lot of old video cards, such as
Radeon RX 580 8GB and Radeon RX 570 8GB. Probably the owners have cheap electricity. Kaspa has become a popular coin in mining. And I don't see Nvidia's 4000 series either.

Although I still mine Ergo and Zilliqa, I think it's better to buy altcoins and wait for a bull market to come around again. In the last bull market, altcoins brought an insane amount of money than mining rigs and graphics cards, and mining rigs are not easy to run, whereas coins bring higher returns over the long run.
