Each block is stacked on top of the previous one. Adding another block to the top makes all lower blocks more difficult to remove: there is more "weight" above each block. A transaction in a block 6 blocks deep (6 confirmations) will be very difficult to remove.

A proven scammer will get negative feedback on their account, but an unproven scammer wasn't been exposed and you can know it if he's offer to good to be true or refuse to use escrow.

What should you do? leave negative feedback and create flag on this account (if no one have create flag).

To prevent from scammer make sure you use escrow with a trusted user in this forum before make a deal, use this forum as your communication media, don't use telegram since someone can easily delete the whole conversations.

Knowing someone is a scammer can be difficult but easier after they've scammed you. So, you'll have to be careful with high profit services, the forum helps to identify a scammer by adding a warning box untop of the person's service thread stating that lots of users have pointed the user as a scammer, but that doesn't solve most of the problem, because people still go on working with such persons even after reading the warning.

If you confirm someone is a scammer don't hesitate to drop a negative feedback on the person's account or open a thread on the reputation or scam accusation section reporting to the forum about the user with proves of chat and Bitcoin transaction hash.

To avoid scam you need to work with users that have got quality reviews on their service thread. And always confirm by asking for a review copy of their services before paying; for a user with lesser reputation.

Stay safe.

As I new bie, how do I know someone is a scammer?
If you try to deal with a newbie(without a trusted escrow), there's a 95% chance you'll get scammed. As for dealing with older members, always check for their trust feedbacks, recent activity, etc. If they just woke up after a long period of inactivity and trying to suddenly make a deal with you, they are most likely going to scam you.

What should I do if I meet a scammer on Bitcointalk?
As @Plaguedeath suggested, you may create a flag but you will need ppl to support your flag too. You must open a thread in the "scam accusation" board against the scammer.

What should I do so I won't fall a victim of scam?
Just use your common sense Smiley

You can't know for sure if one user is a scammer or not unless you complete a transaction/trade. All you need is prevention — only trade/transact with people with high reputation, especially with higher amounts of money.

If you receive a PM and see a link there, don't click on it. Most likely, you will be sent some kind of phishing link.
If you see that a person with a known nickname on the forum is writing to you in telegrams, do not trust him. Ask here on the forum if the telegram belongs to this person. Now there are a lot of scammers who, on behalf of someone else, can offer you an allegedly profitable offer, and unknowingly, you can become a victim.
Feel free to ask and talk about things that might make you suspicious. As they say, it is better to be very suspicious a hundred times than to be deceived once.

how do I know someone is a scammer?
You don't. That's why I assume anyone can be a scammer, so don't just trust people because they tell you to.

As I new bie, how do I know someone is a scammer?

You can know a proven scammer through the trust of the person in their profile. Scam is not moderated in this forum that is why scammers are still existing here.

Quote
What should I do if I meet a scammer on Bitcointalk?

If you meet a scammer you can raise a topic in the scam accusation. When other people might have contributed to the topic and it is proven to be a scammer, members will tag him and you will also tag the person.

Yes and no.

There are some people with zero trust that can be trustworthy and later be given positive trust, or it can be otherwise

There can be some people with many positive trusts but not trustworthy, example is yogg that let people trust him and gone bad, stealing people's bitcoin. Some people can build trust and later go bad.

Someone's account can even be compromised, there was one case of this in 2021 or 2022, that an account was compromised and later used to scam. That is why signing bitcoin message or PGP key is very important.

Always check trust score for the feedback of DT on the user account. Also scammer will ask you to pay first, download something or send you a suspicious link via dm.

To avoid being scammed then you should use the forum anonymously and never reply to anyone who contact you first. Use a trusted escrow when you are dealing with someone here if you have an item that wants to buy.

What should I do if I meet a scammer on Bitcointalk?.

If you cross paths with a scammer on the forum, don't make eye contact with them. If you do and it sees you, don't turn and run. That is a sign of weakness and they will surely chase you.

Instead, make yourself big by extending your arms and standing on your tippy toes and then yell or growl at them as loud as you can. The scammer will likely to be startled and leave you alone, moving on in search of easier prey.

As I new bie, how do I know someone is a scammer?

Being a newbie you may not really have that experience in identifying one since you've not done one before but you can wait a little longer to gain the experience and knowledge in doing so, so that you cannot be working on assumption even calling those who were not as one.

What should I do if I meet a scammer on Bitcointalk?

If you're sure he's a scammer, the first thing to do is have an evidence to ascertain this then report to the moderators or to threads that talks about scam accusation.

What should I do so I won't fall a victim of scam?

Sit yourself down and learn with patience, don't be greedy or too eager for making money, be careful in dealing with alts cryptocurrencies, remember it takes to invest but you can make it more simpler in starting with bitcoin in other to avoid getting trapped on shitcoins.

Please your contributions and advice will really appreciated.

Read and learn from the forum, on the internet and improve yourself over time, no one was born with it, we all give to learning then we grow gradually.

if scammer already scammed some one here then you will see negative trust but for those scammer which not scammed anybody before than you will see they will force you to deal privately, will not ready for escrow and always ask you to pay first full or half.

You probably won't meet a scammer in threads and posts on this forum, but they will pm you if they intend to scam you. This is not a platform for chatting and exchanging private information with each other, so you need to ignore any member who asks for any information.
If you got scammed on this forum, you can open a post with enough proof of that scam and post it on this forum.

As I new bie, how do I know someone is a scammer?

What should I do if I meet a scammer on Bitcointalk?

What should I do so I won't fall a victim of scam?
Please your contributions and advice will really appreciated.

There are several scam attempt on the forum and on the internet space as a whole and one thing have to do is always stay very careful and also make sure you don't click on any random link.

One way to also identify scammer is the desperation in everything they're wanting you do and the moment someone isn't patient with you, please just know that might be a possible scammer.

If you meet a scammer, just not to fall prey, better just block the criminal off but if you have the luxury of time you can keep the scammer busy by giving him false hopes.

In conclusion, everyone is a suspect on the internet and you have have this consciousness and threat everyone and transactions with caution.

For starters, a scammer's fishing net is not limited to newbies they can target pretty much everyone out here and need to be on the look out.

Then how to spot a scammer, well at first glance you can't really tell.. they have to slip up for you to stop one or if offers are too good to be true then it's not or simply a scam.

If the scam has happened you can make a report in the scam accusations board (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=83.0) or if it's happening or suspect someone of being a scammer then you can put up a post in the reputation board(https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=129.0) .

When he requested for your wallet keys, post shits, drop down irrelevant links and downloads links, send unsolicited messages or emails and promise massive return on investment if you make one with them from the scam company they promote and their NFTs, airdrops or other faie promises too much to be real.

What should I do if I meet a scammer on Bitcointalk?

Ignore him using the ignore button under his username below the avatar, report any to the moderators if found spamming the forum or sending you indescriminate PMs.

What should I do so I won't fall a victim of scam?

Don't be greedy, be patient, dont rush to make money, watch whom you follow and threads you read or comment under, avoid links referring to other sites you don't know about, dont download from their links, lastly ensure that tou always carry your own research personally on anything before going for it.
