Is the post and preview shortcuts working on your PC?

I've been trying for sometimes to know if the shortcuts alt+s for submit and alt+p to preview would work on my PC, but it seems useless and wouldn't make any changes. I think it's my Laptop's fault, and I'm not close to my desktop to confirm how true my instinct is about that. So, I thought about asking forum members if they have a means of achieving the shortcut key or it doesn't just work. Have you been using the shortcuts to post and preview your posts?

Those shortcuts don't work. Shortcuts are handled by my OS, not by my browser.

Post: Tab > Enter (I use this one a lot).
Preview: TabTab > Enter (I don't use this one).

I don't know about others, but these keyboard shortcuts work fine for me. The main thing is to make sure that the system is set to English when using these keyboard shortcuts. For example, if I have the Russian language enabled for typing, these keyboard shortcuts do not work.

Honestly I never even tried using those shortcuts until you mentioned it today because to me it didn't look any faster than doing it the regular way. And no, it doesn't work for me neither.

The main thing is to make sure that the system is set to English when using these keyboard shortcuts. For example, if I have the Russian language enabled for typing, these keyboard shortcuts do not work.

My language is set to English and I also use Windows and it still doesn't work.

I just tested those shortcuts on google chrome and I confirm that they are working without any problem.
I had the same experience as Xal0lex. When I change the keyboard language, the shortcuts no longer work.

I am using Firefox so maybe that explains why it doesn't work for me. And I can't really be bothered to install Chrome just to try the feature I wouldn't use even if it worked.

You are right. I just tested the shortcuts on Firefox and they didn't work. So, it seems that the behavior depends on the browser that is used.

Yes I'm using Firefox maybe it's the fault of the browser as I've gone through the answers here. Though I don't have chrome updated on my PC and like Rikafip said, it's not a trouble just wanted to confirm if I'm the only person that's experiecing the problem. I'd try with chrome once it's updated.

I also just tested these keyboard shortcuts in the Firefox browser. They don't work for me in this browser either. It is strange of course. The reason is not clear to me personally.

I use Firefox, and my shortcuts are shift + alt + S. So, a little more work, but it should work as long as you have the language setup correctly. Obviously, to preview it would be shift + alt + P. Do note, it's not Alt Gr, it's the left hand alt that's oriented on your keyboard. As far as I know, it's handled by the browser more than the OS that the browser is on, but just for covering all basis' I'm running Linux, inside Qubes OS. However, like I said it shouldn't make too much difference what OS your using. if it does like loyceV suggests then, just take a look at your keybindings on the OS, and see if you can figure out the corresponding one based on the answers here.

I'm running a fairly modified Firefox, especially via policies, but it shouldn't affect the keybindings.

I just tried it and doesn't work on my device. For reference i tested it with Tor Brwoser on Linux, although i don't know keyboard setting on my OS.

Have a look at your settings on your distribution, it'll vary depending on which one you have. As for Tor, I can't see it acting any differently to the default Firefox, as long as the same language is being used.

Shift/Alt/S isn't easier than Tab > Enter, but Shift/Alt/P could work instead of Tab > Tab > Enter. Too bad the text field loses focus when I do this, so I still need to click my mouse to continue typing.

Edit: It worked, both alt+s and alt+p are working.

By the way, this is the first time i have used these shortcut after reading the OP post. Although i know these short cuts did exists but for some unknown reason never tried them before.

By the OP needs to check his laptop or browser settings, as there is nothing wrong with the shortcuts.

The shortcuts work on Tor Browser too. I think it depends on the operating system you are using because I have two computers 1 with windows and 1 with Linux and they both behaved differently. SMF is outdated and that is probably why there is inconsistencies among members.

You do not need too but some people will find it easier to use. You can post without previewing and for people with smaller windows or smaller resolutions they can post without scrolling down the page there is a use to it but it does not mean everyone has a use for it.

People who are used to be keyboard-centric prefer the keys over dragging the mouse for everything so it makes sense to have a short cut but I don't use it.

But I am wondering, what kind of stress you are going through for clicking two buttons instead of dragging and click one?

I'd never thought as well such existed and don't think people use this post or preview function like the general button appearing.

It's there and always there have been so just keep attention next time while clicking post or preview where you can see the above short cut mentioned.

I just tried now and it's working am using Chrome, tho subsequently I won't be using it, because maybe am not used to it.

Or should I force myself to be using it? Ok leme force myself to be using it and see what happens.

I've been using this shortcuts every time and I'm using Google Chrome and Brave and they work fine to me and I tried the same concern as them with the use of another language such as Japanese and it does work. Most likely I'm using the alt+s every time i post.

It's my habit to use that shortcut whenever I want to post. Everything works for me, no problem at all.
In fact I've barely used the mouse to get to preview and post in all this time, and again those shortcut worked fine for me a long time ago. This shortcut has helped me save a few second of moving my cursor over the preview button or post button.
