Binance recently made an announcement https://www.binance.com/en/blog/charity/binance-to-airdrop-$100-usd-1883-try-in-bnb-to-users-in-the-turkey-earthquake-region-8156736968497181390 Very good move in my condition. If all companies and people associated with crypto take such steps, world will become a better place. It will cost them in millions but I believe that in long run it will give much higher returns to them financially also because of two reasons. The people getting this airdrop in this hard times will become regular and loyal users for Binance. A lot of other users will also use Binance now because this news will create branding for the exchange. What is your reaction to this news ?

What is your reaction to this news ? It's nice they want to help, but no matter how you look at this there will be reasons for criticizing it: * If it's done based on KYC then it's about getting more users to Binance ecosystem and, well, KYC is not great to just give away to all the platforms asking for it. * On the other hand, if KYC is not involved then it will greatly be abused. I don't know why didn't Binance just give funds to some NGOs that are actively helping there...

As much as this is a humanitarian gesture, as a business, this kind of news gives them some business mileage in terms of marketing and an open door policy in that country as they came through for the people when help was needed the most.
But for the affected areas, do these people actually have electricity for starters, do they have their phones on them, do the affected turkey people have ids in case they get word of the Binance airdrop will they be able to pass KYC if required ??
Just hoping the Turkey Earthquake victims get the help they deserve and not some users using fake ids to try and be part of the airdrop, kudos Binance !

I read this news few days go on social media. But I think it’s more appropriate to donate the funds on the NGO (like @Neuroticfish mention above) that helps victim rather than airdrop them to the victim itself since probably most of lost their home including their devices for them to claim this airdrop. I know that CZ do this kind of publicity for the sake of his business and crypto but he can do better by giving the reward to the user to the form which they can access it immediately. There’s a lot of death toll on this tragic event and maybe there’s a chance that some airdrop recipients is already dead.

I don't know why didn't Binance just give funds to some NGOs that are actively helping there...
They have already funded two charitable organizations. Of course, not from their own pocket, but from the money donated by people. Source: Binance's tweetThrough community donations, we have now raised $70k for Turkey and Syria. #Binance Charity will be distributing the funds equally to two charitable organisations in both countries.

Well, that's not going to generate any returns, is it? At first glance it sounds like it's within the framework of humanity's calling, but its not. Binance is blatantly taking advantage of the difficult situation, $100 is probably a decent amount for affected residents to chase by exchanging their identities. Next Binance will announce new user increase stats. In the long term, however they have become users of Binance since they signed up.

That won't be possible to happen because in order to quality for the airdrop you had to go through Proof of Address prior to February 6th, which was the day of the earthquake. So basically only those who already did KYC on Binance and are from specific areas (so not whole Turkey) will get $100 worth of BNB. Identification of the users will be based on Proof of Address (POA) completed before Feb 6th in 10 cities where the earthquake has had significant impact, including: Kahramanmaraş, Kilis, Diyarbakır, Adana, Osmaniye, Gaziantep, Şanlıurfa, Adıyaman, Malatya and Hatay.
While the POA method has its limitations and inaccuracies, it is the best method we have available for us to locate potentially impacted users. We estimate the total donations will be around $5 million USD (or 94,000,000 TRY). Binance is blatantly taking advantage of the difficult situation, $100 is probably a decent amount for affected residents to chase by exchanging their identities. Next Binance will announce new user increase stats. In the long term, however they have become users of Binance since they signed up.
You might wanna read the article shared in the first post before commenting. If you did, you would see that only already existing users who went through KYC prior to earthquake will get the airdrop.

This is still a big help for someone who is in a situation where they only depend on the food and water given but the authorities of Turkey. While Binance take this as an opportunity to promote in the country, the people who are also in Turkey I think will be grateful for this.
They could withdraw if they want. To be honest, this is way better than sending it to a donation address that we don't know if it goes to the earthquake victims.

Ups, sorry about that and thanks for bringing up the snippet. Couldn't read the article on the resource page without running VPN, Binance and alt. sites are restricted in my country.

I feel sorry for the people, but If I had full control for printing of my own centralized coin ''dkbit'' I would send more than $100 of dkbit. In the same time CZ Binance spent millions by burning BNB all the time to create fake sense of scarcity and increase it's value... something to think about. That won't be possible to happen because in order to quality for the airdrop you had to go through Proof of Address prior to February 6th, which was the day of the earthquake. So basically only those who already did KYC on Binance and are from specific areas (so not whole Turkey) will get $100 worth of BNB. CZ is not so stupid to give free $100 of his own printed out of thing air BNB shitcoin to all Turkish citizens, and he is hoping to attract more people with this donation campaign. But why are they donating only people from Turkey, what about people from Syria who are also heavily affected by this earthquake?

There's something even worse than that. Take a look at their charity program. They collect BTC and ETH from people as donation to earthquake victims in Turkey and Syria and instead send BUSD to some NGOs.

Well, who is stopping you from minting billions of dkbitcoins and sending some to people in Turkey and Syria? CZ is not so stupid to give free $100 of his own printed out of thing air BNB shitcoin to all Turkish citizens, and he is hoping to attract more people with this donation campaign. Does CZ have ulterior motive here? Most likely. But I wish all other exchanges sent some crypto to affected users in Turkey and Syria even if they are just trying to attract more users that way. As far as I know Binance is not available in Syria so that explains why this airdrop is for Turkish users only.

BUSD will soon be stopped right by regulators so he might as well use it. obviously, CZ doesn't do things unless Binance also benefits through it. US has temporarily eased its sanctions on Syria in an effort to speed up aid deliveries to the country. it should be possible by now to send $100 to each Syrian user. he must be avoiding politic issues.

I think they've done the same with Ukraine before. What's sad these days is that with these donation drives and help, we're thinking that they're not just giving it away but also there must be something in return in their favor.
But in tough times, there's really nothing better to see but those that are sending help to the victims of the Earthquakes. And, there's this condition that they have that it's only for those existing verified users that are from the affected regions.

There's always (or at least nearly always) a motive when large companies donate large amounts of money. However, such moves are at least helping those in need, and in this case, $100 is a relatively decent amount for those who are suffering from the earthquake. Moreover, there isn't a need to judge everything, of course, and only verified users are going to receive the airdrop; otherwise, others would take advantage of it. This money is only intended for people in need, not for greedy tricksters.

Giving the same BUSD token that is probably going to stop existing soon after Paxos was accused for connection with Binance and BUSD... brilliant plan. Well, who is stopping you from minting billions of dkbitcoins and sending some to people in Turkey and Syria? I don't have any propaganda machinery to say that my dkbitshitcoins have any value, and I don't have bunchj of Bitcoins like CZ to pay all the shillers and bots. Would you like to be the first to receive dkbit coin, if it ever comes out? Does CZ have ulterior motive here? Most likely. But I wish all other exchanges sent some crypto to affected users in Turkey and Syria even if they are just trying to attract more users that way. I am sure that people in Turkey wouldn't have anything against that. Yeah, I agree crypto donations are probably best way to donate directly to people without any third party, and I know for a fact that all fiat donation programs are abused all the time. Btw Rikafip did you feel local earthquake today?

Its popular (and usually for a good reason) to shit on all centralized exchanges and especially Binance (I do it too) but in these cases I'm trying to be a "glass half full" kind a guy and trying to look positives even though I suspect what's behind it. In the end, those people will get $100 in their account directly and that's what counts the most. Would you like to be the first to receive dkbit coin, if it ever comes out? Sure why not. Who knows, maybe that transactions will be remembered similar to the one between Satoshi and Hal Finney. Btw Rikafip did you feel local earthquake today?
Nope, I am out of Croatia at the moment so I luckily missed that. It was felt where you are?

I agree that centralized exchanges are an issue the community still needs to solve, but as you said in this case it seems to be a positive thing. Hopefully the funds aren't being sent in BNB, as that would be in poor taste and something that FTX would have done. As you stated though, in the end the people get $100 which will probably not be life changing for anyone, but may help them get through this tough time until some real help can be sent their way. Having funds sent directly to the people is a bit of a unique angle on a disaster that you don't see much and it's good that Binance is using their information to try and do good for people. Hopefully those using fake regions for trading via VPNs aren't going to dip into this fund.

VPN shouldn't help at all as one of the main requirements for airdrop is to have proof of address done before February 6th (date of earthquake). So unless you submitted utility bill/bank statement with an address of one of the hit areas, you won't get $100.

Simple answer to this would be no, this is just a publicity stunt. People in the affected areas wont be having internet connection nor electricity as their infrastructure as a whole is affected and it will take weeks to get basic things and the drop is announced only for Turkey while Syria is also struggling with the same situation.
