Explaining bitcoin and it's complexity to someone new especially if the person doesn't have the interest isn't an easy task and in a country like mine where it seems to be a taboo to invite someone to make investment in digital assets especially after what the popular Ponzi scheme (MMM) did to people some years back.
I believe there are other ways the gospel of cryptocurrency can be preacher to people even without having to speak a single word directly such as
~ printing of banner/fliers/stickers etc
~ social media publications
~ church/ public gathering announcements.

The first option of fliers and sticker printing have been done previously by a forum member here and I loved the initiative and I would suggest more of that.

to explain bitcoin to ordinary people, of course, the first thing that requires interest from the person is to learn bitcoin. and as a person who teaches bitcoin, of course, you have to be patient in explaining bitcoin to people who are interested in learning bitcoin.

and I think you can also ask the person to join this forum.

Documentaries, analogies, making it as simple as possible.

I didn't try to share my knowledge with other people until now even though I'm investing in crypto for around 4-5 years already, but I'm ready incase one person approaches me and wanted to know more about Bitcoin.

Documentaries are the ones who helped me learn Bitcoin even more. For a newbie, it's kind of overwhelming I agree, but after watching more and more documentaries, you will learn even more and more. I mean there are many documentaries in Youtube regarding the history of Bitcoin, how it works etc. I believe it will help a regular person. Analogies are I think a good way for newbies to understand it way easier. Explain it as simple as possible so that they will understand it better thus, they will be more focused on it instead of them getting overwhelmed by these terms that they just heard for the first time.

I believe there are many ways for each of us to explain Bitcoin to a newbie, but these are I think the ways for a newbie to understand it way easier.

Very basic things necessary to make a common person or a techny who hadn't used to it, mobile with little balance in bitcoin. Another mobile with a wallet. Bitcoin chart to explain how the price have moved from the bottom to the present market. Aaprt from this, list of services that can be enjoyed using bitcoin.

Surely there arises a question why can't it be handled as we use paper currency. By the time we need to explain what is meant by virtual currency. Further showing them in the wallet will give them better understanding. Now make a transaction and show the other mobile reflecting the transaction. This will give an understanding how transaction happens without the involvement of third party.

Next part is to brief about the growth happened through the years. This might interest him to go for it or learn further. Maybe if he's interested he'll comeback requesting to support in learning more. If not just leave it and support others who are fond of knowing bitcoin.

I think it is a lot easier for Bitcoin to be explained to a normal person than somebody who has a lot of technical knowledge related to coding or software development and their related fields. I can easily tell a normal person like me that Bitcoin is a decentralized digital currency. It could actually end there depending if he has a follow up question or not. I can expound on it a bit by saying the differences it has with fiat.

I wouldn't call it easy, but teaching or inviting someone to join in investing in bitcoin is actually simple.

• make sure the person you are inviting must at least have a mobile phone, and often play social media. just direct those who originally like to play social media so research and learn about bitcoin on the internet.
• the second must be the closest person, for example family, friends who play with us, work together. this will make it easier for us to teach them about bitcoin. there will be no awkwardness when teaching it because it is the person closest to us almost every day always together.
• Third, make sure that the person you are going to invite must already have a job and income. Because this is also an investment, you must have capital. Therefore, you must invite friends or relatives who already have jobs and income.

Not explaining it? I mean I get that there is a responsibility feeling in the crypto world where people want to explain to people that you could make some money with it and all that, but the reality is that you do not have to explain it to people yourself personally. Bitcoin is such an online thing, and if they really want to learn, they could just google it.

Writing "what is bitcoin" on google would give you a million answers, from the simplest to the most detailed one, and people could read whatever they want in there. I know it's not going to be so simple for many people, but that's how it should be, just googling it, why bother us with it to begin with?

If someone would asked me like that then the best answer I could give is giving them a link. Grin

It will take a week I guess before they digest what we have to tell to a person if they really want to learn more about Bitcoin.

But if they want a simple answer then I would just simply answer that it's a decentralized crypto currency that's being supported by the community that's why it's value is increasing thus, everyone is using it then it's highly volatile that no one could predict the right price.

If they weren't tech-savvy enough to understand what I'm telling them, then perhaps, a guide or an infographics would suffice their curiosity and I'm sure they can find something like that on Youtube.

Has anyone here had troubles explaining bitcoin or crypto to a normal person?

We don't want the word normal to be taken too out of context, because we are more than sure that we all know what a "normie" is.

For us, we used freebitco.in first and it basically showed us everything we need to know from a beginner's standpoint.

Does anyone here have stories about sharing their favorite hobby/profession with someone else who either has no idea or no interest?

If bitcoin is supposed to be the future of finance, then the whole world will need to know at one point or another. Basically bitcoin and crypto education is borderline mandatory in our honest opinion.

What do you all think?

Thank you.
I think the easiest way to introduce a regular person to bitcoin is by letting them first understand cryptocurrency and going further to explain to them that bitcoin is a liquid asset for securing future income. I will tell them that it is a form of trading that is that is outside the control of any group of people. I will also inform them that with bitcoin,
there is no need for any third-party involvement in transactions. I will teach them that bitcoin is a digital currency which does not require any central authority, like any governmental agencies or banks. I will show them through practical examples the importance of securing for the future through bitcoin.

My own experience is with a person who has no idea about Bitcoin but he is still interested in knowing what Bitcoin is all about.

In my own case, the person is a slow learner that needs things to be explained to him more than twice before he can fully understand, me knowing how risky Bitcoin investment is I decided to start guiding him gently, but at some points, I gave up because I don't have enough time to spend with him explaining things more than once, therefore, I gave some books about Bitcoin and most importantly I recommended him to be reading learnmeabitcoin.com because I know that is the website that can explain Bitcoin to him easily because it is very easy to comprehend in the book.

Yes, Bitcoin can be hard while trying to explain it to people who have no knowledge about internet stuff and digital currencies, and much more harder when trying to explain  to total novice, because no matter how you try to explain what Bitcoin is, there are 3 most important statement you should never forget to mention while trying to explain what Bitcoin is, and they are that;
Bitcoin is a digital currency
Bitcoin put us in control of our own finance
Bitcoin is not controlled by centre bank or any government

Meaning that the best way to explain Bitcoin to a total novice is that "Bitcoin is a digital currency not controlled by center bank nor government, which put us in control over our funds"

It is hard to explain bitcoin to a regular person. Tell him in brief. If he is interested, he will do the research himself and get involved. In the journey, he will develop some doubts. But there are forums like bitcointalk which he will anyway discuss on searching queries related to crypto on Google. You can only show a direction to the person, you cannot hold his hand and make him invest in bitcoin.
Some people believe hand-holding other people into investing in BTC is the right thing to do, but it is not, it is not possible to force people to develop interest in BTC, if a person does not have an idea or interest in BTC, it is best for you not to force them to do so. Majority of us in bitcointalk all love BTC, but the truth is that we can't force it on others who have no interest in it. Even when there is mass adoption of BTC in the future, totally everyone cannot be involved in it, because there will surely be those who don't like it nor want to use it.

It isn't bad to give people an idea of what BTC is all about, and then give them some resources to go and find out more about BTC themselves, if they indeed come back with further questions on what they have learnt, then you can help them with more materials to help them learn fast, but if they are uninterested and do not come back, then they should be left alone.

I have some difficult explaining bitcoin to people, because they seem to not absorb its concept very well, besides not feeling excited by the features bitcoin provide, such as decentralization, boardless transactions, person to person negotiations and self custody. I'm not so sure they don't understand it, though. It just looks like they aren't interested on bitcoin, because they think fiat perfectly fufill their currently daily needs.

Maybe once inflation starts kicking harder, people will change their point of view in bitcoin's favor.

Actually there have been several examples and there have been several discussions which are almost the same with conditions like this if I'm not mistaken because there are indeed several threads that I've seen in almost the same condition.
I see a lot of people trying to get other people to know about bitcoin with some teaching, whether it's among work colleagues, in the family, even at school, that's a good thing, but on the other hand, we also have to look at it from an enthusiastic perspective, whether what we tell really has interest and enthusiasm. high or not. On the other hand, for me personally, I don't really want to be bothered with it because until now in my environment, if there are new people who want to learn and discuss, then I'm ready to give suggestions, but if not, I don't want to be bothered by having to introduce it to other people.
Crypto has gained high demand these days due to different news spread all over the internet. That’s why as much as possible, people become eager to know more about bitcoin and want to become educated on it. But it’s hard to educate people based on your own perspective, that’s why whenever they come to me and ask about bitcoin, I just tell them to DYOR so they can gain personal knowledge based on facts. And one thing I avoided not to be part on their learning process, is I don’t want to be blame in the future if ever their investments fail, which I think is very much possible especially if you are the one who introduced them into crypto.

We can't explain something to someone if they don't show interest in them. So we ignore that and in order to make them interested in that topic, we only share the good side of it. However this is not the best approach to teach anyone about anything. We should share every detail, including bad and good sides.
As for explaining, start from the basics. If they show interest, then you can always refer to some articles about Bitcoin. From my experience, I can tell that what you learn by yourself, you will not forget it for the rest of your life. You just show them the path, but it's their decision whether they want to walk on that path or not. When Bitcoin will become a key factor in the society, people will show interest all my themselves. Then they will learn it on their own.

It's now when if you happened to example Bitcoin for some people and they will embrace you, but during the time Bitcoin was first introduced many people doesn't welcome teaching of Bitcoin, because what comes to mind is that Bitcoin is used for scam and during the investment their is every tendency that your investment funds will not be recovered during the investment, but people have known the possibility and also confirm the regulations and important of in the society.

Few words I tell when somebody is really interested to know what bitcoin is. To make it easier to understand, I simply use the word online currency = cryptocurrency which has its specific use for having its own method of transferring to other end users.
And not just that, but it's also an asset at the same time because of having a limited supply. Those are like the keywords of how I explain it to people who are interested to know more about it.

Usually I just explain the tip on it because most of the people who ask me know that bitcoin has a high price, so their purpose is to earn profit on it. I just explained what the real purpose of bitcoin is before most people knew it as an investment and how I've earned from it. I don't really go deep into it, as I'm sure they won't understand. Then I would also give them links and videos to learn more about bitcoin.
Do you know that till date many people is confused of Bitcoin, i will say that different people will narrate or give different explanation of inculcating the knowledge of Bitcoin to another, actually the objectives of someone who comes into Bitcoin investment is to make profit, basically when I'm impacting the knowledge of Bitcoin other people i first tender the demerit of Bitcoin investment before the advantages, some people fails to tell new investors the negative impact of Bitcoin investment, which from my understanding it's unfair. Teaching people Bitcoin, ensure that you have backed it up with the necessary article it interested one will read and comprehend.
