I have recently peeled 2 1BTC coins to redeem them. I didn't want to do it but I needed to.

I m going to need 2 peel more soon but I would rather they were sold for their value, also not peeling a piece of history. It just seems that finding a safe way to sell and handover the coins isn't worth the risk and maybe just selling the peeled coins afterwards makes more sense.

What could I expect for a standard 1BTC coin right now? How about a peeled coin?

Thanks

If by standard, you mean "brass"... you can expect anywhere from 1BTC to 1.3BTC depening on the date, condition, etc....
A peeled coin w/ the hologram intact will fetch around $500-$1000, again depending on date, condition, etc...
Happy to help out if needed Cheesy

Good thinking and doing!  As a collector I prefer to have the hologram and private key provided with the coin as it keeps collectable item more desirable and also gets a greater price if ever sold down the road again! Wink

never peel your coins that you then want to sell. if you then sell them in their original condition (i.e. not peeled), you will definitely make more profit than just the nominal amount.
and of course you will also have less expense

I do the same in the past by peeling coin when Bitcoin at peak price around 60K rather than sell it because you will need to wait for the courier to arrive that sometimes took months if overseas that result to long waiting especially if you need the cash badly. I just sold the peeled coin to @minerjones to recover some of premium cost when I purchased but still worth since the price of Bitcoin now is almost just1/3 of the amount I get when I peeled it.

I suggest to use @minerjones as an escrow or a shipping forwarder to guarantee safety of your coin. He made a lot of successful deals involving this kind of coin.

This seems to always be a point of contention between collectors.  The premium on these sorts of coins honestly doesn't seem worth the risk to me currently, but some of them still do fetch decent premiums.  The thought of losing such value in the mail is heartbreaking to me, but I'll admit I've shipped some pretty insane things.  I guess it comes down to risk and the individual, but it's no easy decision to sell instead of peel.  If you bought a Casascius coin for $10 a long time ago, you might be more than happy with peeling, but I could see someone who is at a loss in USD terms wanting to try and get back as much as they can.  Timing could also have a lot to do with it.  Imagine missing the top of a market because you wanted to negotiate a sale.  These Casascius coins are selling for around $30K now even with the premium, so a buyer peeling when BTC was over $60K instead of waiting for the right sale arguably made the right decision.

TL;DR - A bird in the hand...
