Bayer Leverkusen 2-0 Ferencvaros
Roma 2-0 Real Sociedad
Sporting Lisbon 2-2 Arsenal

Manchester United 4-1 Real Betis

Arsenal still have a lot of work to do if they are to progress to the next stage but Manchester United bounced back from their defeat to Liverpool by winning comfortably and should qualify for the next round.

The first leg of the Europa League quarter-finals take place on Thursday 13th April:

Feyenoord vs Roma
Bayer Leverkusen vs Union Saint-Gilloise
Juventus vs Sporting Lisbon
Manchester United vs Sevilla

I would expect Feyenoord, Bayer Leverkusen, Juventus and Manchester United to qualify for the semi-finals.

Feyenoord 1-0 Roma
Bayer Leverkusen 1-1 Union Saint-Gilloise
Juventus 1-0 Sporting Lisbon
Manchester United 2-2 Sevilla

Which teams will qualify for the semi-finals? It is too difficult to tell because even Roma and Sporting Lisbon can win their home games by more than a goal and qualify. Sevilla have two away goals and that will help them when they play Manchester United in Spain.

Sporting Lisbon 1-1 Juventus FT (Agg 1 - 2)
Union Saint-Gilloise 1-4 Bayer Leverkusen (Agg 2 - 5)

Manchester United are out, they were thrashed 5-2 on aggregate by Sevilla. They are joined by Union Saint-Gilloise, Feyenoord and Sporting Lisbon as they exit the competition.

The semi-finals will take between: Roma, Sevilla, Juventus and Bayer Leverkusen. Congratulations to them

Europa League Final

Sevilla vs Roma

The Europa League final is being played this evening. They are currently at half-time and Roma are winning by scoring the solitary goal by Dybala. It looks as though Roma manager Jose Mourinho is going to get yet another European trophy to add to his portfolio.

Sevilla won the game 4-1 on penalties


After the game Mourinho was verbally abusing the referee in the car park, it was the first European final Mourinho had lost as a manager and it was a tough game. Roma had enough chances to win and probably should have but Sevilla had many chances in the second half to put the game away yet failed.

As always with penalties there can never be certainty the best or better team win, in this case the jury is out about who deserved to win over 90 minutes or extra-time but Sevilla are Europa League champions again and congratulations to them.

A belated result:

Fiorentina 1-2 West Ham








West Ham United won their first major trophy after a 43 year wait and they won it in the 90th minute with their second goal of the game. Congratulations to them.

Throughout his tenure their manager David Moyes showed some of the class that made Manchester United select him as a successor to Ferguson. That job ultimately was too big for him but at West Ham United he found relative success and moderate consistency. This season was tough for them in the Premier League but they went all-out to win the Europa Conference League and Moyes played a huge part in that success by managing the team.
