to be honest, this is how I feel. when I'm stressed because of a problem that I'm experiencing (problems in the family or business) then gambling is one way out for me to relax, I usually play slots and the thing that makes me feel relaxed from my problems is when I win in a few rounds, usually I will withdraw half of the winnings and play again until I feel bored or run out of capital.

I guess that "trying hard" means playing with high bets at high odds... expecting some big hit or bonus round (if it comes to slots). It is not that gambling for fun helps you win, it is just that if you do something for fun you have better chances to improve faster and obtain a higher level of skill than if you do something because you have to, a clear case of this happens at schools all the time, if you like a particular subject then you will do better at it because you are willing to spend more time studying it, but if you hate it you will do a lot worse as you cannot force yourself to spend too much time reading about it, and whatever time you spend doing so is not effective due to your disgust for that subject in particular.
