Actually it's a strategy that too many project are using. Project teams are really utilizing what is currently on the trend by copying it. In an instant, Too many projects had adopted an airdrop to distribute their token just to gather or make a community without spending that much on marketing. It's proven effective but there are possible cons like degraded long term development, Swapping a token distribution method from the original plan can ruin the distribution. I have a lot on my list but to be honest, I only did ZkSync because I was hyped after the Arbitrum and Aptos airdrop. I did not even complete all the possible transactions to receive an airdrop. Maybe this is not just my thing. The urge to trade or look for potential play to earn games are more appealing to me. Also, after Sui's announcement that it will not conduct an airdrop, all the remaining determination for me to complete some tasks for coming airdrops was lost as well. I don't believe if there are still many people participating in airdrop, because in my opinion airdrop is no longer hype and of course it doesn't give me income, but if you want to participate in airdrop, then I suggest you to making a new wallet, because it will be safer for your main wallet and of course I also use the wallet that I made just to participate in airdrop when I was still participating in airdrop, 2017-2018.

Best is to avoid altcoins all together and just stick to bitcoin that you store in open source wallet like Electrum or even better hardware wallet.  That way you dont have to worry about these types of airdrop scams

It's true that there are so many airdrop scams but they are still some decent ones though fewer in number, my brother and cousin have gotten few NFT as an airdrop and it's worth some good decent amount of money, It's hard finding good airdrop but they still exist.
