Long awaited firmware v1.3.0 for Passport Prime has just seen the light of day with the big stuff being:

One can now bring outside Bitcoin SEEDs and Nostr keys into the Vault app.

Prime allows generating passwords from  SEED using BIP85 with manual control over index and length.

It features  bulk import of 2FA codes from Google Authenticator instead of adding them one by one.

Prime got  new "Universal QR Scanner"  one scanner icon that reads any QR code and sends you to the right app automatically with better QR scanning engine, which recognizes inverse-color and other odd QR types,

to name only a few of the new features.

And Prime received the security hardening and improvements for everyday use.

This is the update I was looking forward to, BIP85 passwords was something that until then, only coldcard had, now not anymore, for those who still don't know what BIP85 is, here is the link to a post of mine explaining a little and covering a practical example, at the moment, anyone without an airgapped hardware wallet like Passport prime or coldcard, depend on html scripts to use BIP85 passwords.

Now I'm eagerly waiting a promotion to purchase Prime (and avoid paying 60% import tax at customs) Tongue

They are going to add it in 1.4.0, but two more releases are expected before then.

Also one should expect FIDO2 Passkeys support, but I didn't manage to find which release it will be in. With this feature, one may add one more authorization layer on various servers that support FIDO2. For example, I use it to protect my Gmail account, but again, the best practice is to have at least two hardware-based passkeys for backup. I have three YubiKey 5.

version 1.3.1 of KeyOS for the Passport prime was released today.
it is now possible to have the hardware wallet generate the last word for a 12/24 bip39 seed. this release also includes a fix, which you can find at the github link:

it is now possible to have the hardware wallet generate the last word for a 12/24 bip39 seed.

They introduced this feature exclusively for the case when someone uses first words taken from the BIP39 list followed by the result of "dice rolls, coin flips, or drawing slips of paper from a hat or container" . If someone just picks words "by feel" from the list instead of using dice/coins/actual physical randomness, those words are not securely random, even though they came from the official BIP39 wordlist. This should be taken into account; otherwise, users may bitch things up.

...
That's a nice feature to have, especially now when self-generated entropy might gain more interest and use after the recent unbelievable Coinkite/Coldcard debacle.

It would be unfair to taint other hardware wallet manufactures because Coinkite messed up really badly. But it shows how bad the consequences are when only really weak and bad entropy is used in wallet generation and when it's impossible to spot easily for a customer. Customers might now be more sensible to verify if their preferred hardware wallet's firmware code deals properly with randomness and "good entropy".

Are we going to see more specific audits on this very basic hardware wallet functionality?

Human made "randomness", especially by some obscure procedures, is rarely good and the danger is that it's hard to determine or detect how bad it really is. Simply don't do (stupid) things like choosing words "by feel" or throwing darts at a printed wordlist, though the latter might be considerably better than the former.

Envoy app was elevated to 2.3.1.

This is a major bug fix release. The biggest one: a fix for the privacy leak where passphrase-protected account transactions could still show up in the main Activity feed even when locked. Also fixes message signing on Passport Prime (non-zero accounts), corrects false firmware update badge, improves Tor connectivity and restart issues, and restores Bluetooth pairing on Android 10/11.

No new features just fixes but it's worth updating for the privacy leak alone.

Human made "randomness", especially by some obscure procedures, is rarely good and the danger is that it's hard to determine or detect how bad it really is. Simply don't do (stupid) things like choosing words "by feel" or throwing darts at a printed wordlist, though the latter might be considerably better than the former.
I've heard several reports of people producing bizarre experiments on trying to create their own seed phrase, like using dice rolls. The problem is that many unprepared individuals watch 05 min of random videos on yt and consider themselves "graduated" on the subject. I've even heard of someone who lost BTC while generating a seed phrase using the iancoleman script, later, this person discovered they had typed some characters in the passphrase field (probably just typed something and forgot).

For people with this level of "understanding," the best thing to do is to experiment with software wallets first, with a reasonable amount of funds, to understand how the Bitcoin network works, public and privkeys, seed phrases, and passphrases, and then choose their hardware wallet brand.

It's much better for these people to generate their seed phrase through their hardware wallets (one that is actually validated and uses a good source of entropy, which I firmly believe is the case with Passport fundation) and then add a passphrase on top (to hide most of the funds). I myself have never done dice rolls, as I don't think it's necessary in my case, I'd like to try it someday.

And yes, I have the same questions as you. I believe that a large part of the community will focus heavily on the care when choosing their device and will want to check more deeply about entropy and demand more explanations from manufacturers after this unfortunate incident.

Passport Prime got the big update KeyOS v1.4.0 Beta Release.

The home screen got the fresh new look, and you can now export multisig setups for Unchained/Casa, connect to Bitcoin Safe/Coconut Wallet, and import 2FA codes from other authenticator apps. You now have to enter your PIN before it'll show your seed words which is definetely an extra safety check.

Most importantly, this patches several serious security bugs: attackers could have tricked the device into mislabeling their own addresses as "your change" during transaction, a bug could silently lower your multisig signing threshold without you knowing, and an old fee-manipulation exploit (CVE-2020-14199) had crept back in.

All of these are now fixed, so it's a good idea to update, but personally I would wait at least a few days until it becomes stable.

some very needed updates there for sure.

I agree on waiting to update until it is for sure stable.

I dont hold any funds on mine - simply using it atm for housing my 2FA
