Regardless of anything when gambling, I think there are only 2 conditions. Firstly, we won it just because we were given the win by the casino which is considered our luck and secondly it is a certain thing that the casino will win regardless of anything. Well, for me, i do not see this as a waste of time at all, betting results comes in three ways, and they are -
1. You either win - make profit on your initial bet.
2. You either loss - lose both capital and expected profit.
3. You either end up with an inconclusive game - here, you get refunded your capital, but expected profit is lost..

In this three ways, it is better to end up with either number 1 or number 3,  in the case where winning is not possible, it is better to end up with an inconclusive game and get refunded your money than lose it in a Concluded game that ended in loss of your bet.
