Learned merit system is easy based on my experience, until right now I have 50 points merit received in several board and many people give contribution for reaching 50 merit so far. You faced difficult understanding how merit rule can check other user with their level up faster and check how many merit received in daily day.

You can comparison or learned from them how possibility and easy got merit, actually with good post reputation easy to earn merit points but you need little effort looking on board with many merit source, or you can follow some user have good habit for sending merit in their topic.

It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

I have been here since 2017 and have Total time logged in: 16 hours and 55 minutes.

How does this Merit thing work? I am defiantly not asking for free or just handouts but I don't understand it.

If I want to give someone a Merit can I not because I am a Newbie? Or do I need to upgrade membership first?

From the question of Op, it doesn't appear that he is interested in having merits or alot of it. I just understood that he must have seen some good posts that he wanted to give out merits to but could not and that is why he asked the question.
Many people thinks that the merits works like facebook likes or upvotes in redits. But he has been clarified and he must have known that for you to give out merits, you must be able to earn it (this is in exception of merits sources).

With the rank you have now, as a newbie since 2017, we can easily increase our rank because there is no merit at this time, you have not even been able to increase your rank even in Jr. member and now it's 2023, you're also a newbie.

This is just showing that you have no interest in engaging in matters that make sense here in this forum. In fact, there is a lot to learn here to tell you frankly. You can't really give merit because no one gives you merit because most people here think you don't deserve to be given merit for them.

First of all, the time logged in has nothing to do with the merits so it is not important how much time you have logged into bitcointalk.

In order to give merit to some, you need to have s-merits with yourself. With every 2 merits you receive, you will have 1 s-merit to send to anyone. Now the big question is how you can get merits.

Well, there are no hard and fast rules for this, you need to post constructively, help others through your ideas/posts, and if the readers find your content useful or like your post, they will definitely give you merits.

Thank you everyone for the replies.

I understood a lot. I have been too busy with my daughter (she is three years old now) to check or be active on any posts/forums.

I have a little bit more time to myself now to be more active.

Thanks everyone again! Love this forum and its members

You've been here since 2017 and you can't even know your left from right? Aha? Is this a dream or in real life? How did you discover 'em passphrase after 51/2years? It's funny..
Well, you haven't gotten any merits and you can't equally merit anyone for that reason; you're not even gonna be shown an option whether or not to merit anyone....all you'll do is to try your possible best to make constructive Post; maybe, possibly the same thing you were tryna avoid in the years past, I'm afraid you have to go back and read the rules so you'd know them. Check out for a sticky notes on the B/H board.

I was ones a newbie like you too so being busy with your loved ones isn't that bad, but if you want something that you desire you have to give it a little of or should I say all of your time to get it done yourself, like they say, if you want something to be done properly you have to do it yourself.
Try to be active, get engaged in things that will drag recognition (in this forum) and also drop something that's unique, then you get more attention and boom merit will cloud your account.

Learned merit system is easy based on my experience,

There's nothing difficult in learning about the merit system since it has been well explained with the procedures needed together with every information needed to know about the merit system, i will say that people are the ones that feels too lazy to search and find because obviously you can't have what you don't search and not until you begin to contribute well to the forum you can't have merit or grow in rank, and all these begins with learning when you read the rules and regulations, understand the pattern to posts, activities and merits.

There's nothing difficult in learning about the merit system since it has been well explained with the procedures needed together with every information needed to know about the merit system,
You're absolutely right, but not all users know how to get that information right without asking a single question [unless they alt].
Beginners often get common questions like these because they don't know where to start. This merit system is simple because you only receive and send it to other users, but what is difficult is how to earn it because each user never has the same quality of posts. So questions like that are sometimes much more helpful to them than pretending to know.

You've been here since 2017 and you can't even know your left from right? Aha? Is this a dream or in real life? How did you discover 'em passphrase after 51/2years? It's funny..
OP became inactive within 742 days of his last activity, that's record for him at this point. But it was no surprise as to how he could remember the password as long as he knew how to keep it safe.

" but you do not know about how merit and smerit work? "
If I did know would I ask?
Calm down. Be positive in understanding every piece of writing you read. If you are in an angry mood, then whatever you read will seem angry.
We understand if you have a good intention with your question. Sometimes many newbie pretend to be newbie.

Many have already provided answers to your questions about how the merit system works. I think now is the time for you to implement it because some of our friends have explained and shared links to topics around your question.

My question is, why did you come so late?
There must be one purpose among many Smiley

If I want to give someone a Merit can I not because I am a Newbie? Or do I need to upgrade membership first?

First of all you are a new member of the forum i.e. you are still a newbie member of the forum. The forum has several titles such as Brand New, Newbie Member, JR Member, Member, Full Member, Senior Member, Hero Member and Legendary Member. Certain merits are required to achieve this forum rank. And this merit is available only when your post has some informative content. When you have merit you can take merit from others. Suppose you have collected ten merits by posting something informative, here your (sMerit) will be 5. five merits you can give to others. In simple words you can share half of the number of merits you can collect in your own ID among all other users.

I have been here since 2017 and have Total time logged in: 16 hours and 55 minutes.
Until the end of 2017, activity based merit was given through Airdop.  But you opened the account in 2017 but posted only 8 in 2017 and then no merit was required for Jr Member.  There was a merit request for at least member rank.  And it takes 60 post & 60 activities to become a member because of which you won't get any merit through airdrop. So now to get merit you must make good quality and informative post. then someone can give you Smerit

Quote

If you ask how Merit affects an account and how many merits are required for each rank. then you can follow Theymos topics which link already provide you rat03gopoh

It doesn't matter what rank you are to give merit. it matters how many Smerit you have. If you get merit from someone!  then for every 2 merits received1 Smerit will be generated in your account.  And you can send that Smerit to any other account. But if someone got the Merits via airdrop then there might be only a few Smerits.
Note that if an account does not have Smerit and it is also a legendary account then no Merit can be sent from that account.

It's not about how old you are on the forum, all is about how useful you are for the community and forum. Your total posts are just 70 as shown per your BTT profile I haven't checked it on Nijastic space maybe some of your posts are deleted. You are not active in the discussion if you really want to earn merits then be active and participate in discussions. Also to give merits to others you need to own s-merits which are obtained by receiving merits 0.5 per merit received and you can send =>1 to others which means to send 1 merit you need to earn 2 merits. Otherway to send merits is to Be a merit source which is quite rare. Also you are from 2017 and still don't know how merit system works on forum which proves that you haven't spend much time on forum.

Thank you everyone for the replies.

I understood a lot. I have been too busy with my daughter (she is three years old now) to check or be active on any posts/forums.

I have a little bit more time to myself now to be more active.

Thanks everyone again! Love this forum and its members
Creating an account from 2017 is not a short time, you have wasted quite a long time. Actually, getting merit is not that difficult if you already understand the rules and frequently open this forum, you only need a little effort to make posts that are unique and interesting so that your posts get their attention. In essence, it's never too late if you want to increase your account ranking. Just a suggestion, if there is a contest event on this forum, try to participate, because by participating in the boom merit contest it will make your account rank up quickly.

I didn't give any help, but I'm glad the harsh initial replies didn't turn you off to the forum.  It's just that whenever a member like you, who's been here for a while and presumably should know how the merit system works starts up a thread asking about the basics, it arouses everyone's suspicions.  There have been so many instances of merit begging threads and all sorts of other nonsense crap since 2018, it's unbelievable.

Also: if you've got all your answers now, you ought to lock the thread.

You have been here since 2017 but you do not know about how merit and smerit work? That is funny.
May be, it's not that funny. Life happens. We can go with the flow that OP is the original owner of that account but only went on a hiatus here so as to concentrate on other stuff. Merit system then happened in their absence and took them by storm. Again, that someone has been here longer than you're doesn't mean they know much about the forum than you're. I've come across veteran members in rank who post like rookies. BTW, I know OP has got the response to their question. So, it's pointless adding any more suggestions to them.
Not that I want to start anything but first of, it's not something funny and it's somehow rude.

Though he already got his answers, maybe he just asked because of sudden change of interest. I'm pretty sure he will try to search on his own now trying to explore this forum for his own good.

We are all aware that there is no spoonfeeding on this forum and you guys are tired of the same question being asked over and over again, but it is also not good if we answer them sarcasticly. I even admit that I have so many things I need to learn given that I am kind of the same with the OP and not constantly staying on the forum.
