1. Free speech - you can say anything as long as it is relevant and presented in a calm and polite manner. Swearing, SHOUTING etc. make your post more likely to be removed.

I don't know if this still followed by mods but definitely that's the one of the reasons why the russian board's mod did that.

The difference in control over mods is due to the fact that they are human beings and each individual has his own way of managing, the most prominent example of this is @frodocooper, who was very strict, I remember that he used to lock posts and modify them, and you rarely find a topic that has not been modified^[1].

Except for a few special cases, it should not be policy for subjects to be confined to megathreads. It's OK for there to be overlap between multiple active threads. If a board seems to become monopolized by similar-looking topics, then some lockings or perhaps deletions might be warranted, but Hardware is low-volume.

The example you mentioned is normal compered to @frodocooper. It is from June 05, 2011, 01:31:45 AM, and at that time @theymos was not even the administrator of this site.

It's surprising how well-documented history can become totally forgotten... Satoshi created the forum on Nov 22, 2009, and was head administrator until almost 2011. Then Sirius was head administrator until 2012, which is when I took over.

I think it still exist but now depends on the board where it been used and the context on which it was applied, you can't be making a discussion on bitcoin on relevant aspects and begin to show a display of emoji and other emotional symbols to cause a total distractions to what you're trying to pass, it may be termed a troll to them since one is appearing like it to the moderators, often times such post got deleted if noticed, but in giving a lifetime experience about a particular subject, it can be included but not in excess.

I haven't seen anything like that too, usually if their language is too inappropriate and not really needed then it will be deleted instead of editing the inappropriate texts but mods are human too so sometimes they want to teach lesson for trolls like those with such kind of actions.

The censorship on bitcointalk is more liberal than other forums based on my experience so its very rare to see someone gets penalty for bad words or unkind behaviour.

But nuking is the same as permanent ban, except that when one is nuked, all their posts are also wiped off along. This is usually done to brand-new accounts that just log in to spam or post some malicious links.

However, there are also cases where Newbie accounts just get banned, but the post history remains intact, especially in the case of plagiarism.

In other words, newbie accounts can receive temporary ban, permanent ban or just get completely nuked depending on the situation.

And it depends mostly on who is handling the report.

Simple moderator: limited powers, but they have the nuke button for newbies (ban and delete all messages)
