I have read about an OS where one can install it in a USB flash and it's a good way of storing Bitcoin if one can't afford a hardware wallet sooner, can you give me a name and also where to read the installation tutorial?

You need to be careful on what you request or look out for when it comes to using a secured storage wallet, some of the ones you see recommendation on from the internet where sometimes found to be a bug that can lead to any unusual attack, just maintain the common one or wait till you can afford buying any.

I can't afford a hardware wallet right away

If you can't afford a hardware wallet then why not go for a free one such as found in cold storage with the use of electrum wallet, this is very easy to set up and you can as well get your private keys with you, ensure you keep it safe till you can afford buying a hardware wallet, but if you're investing much on bitcoin, buying hardware wallet shouldn't be an excuse.

Mate, I see and understand your worries but however I think it is no point getting worried about the situation. Since your phone is a sophisticated phone I believe they can not access it without you opening it for them or granting them access  to do what ever they want to do with it or in your phone. There should be no cause for alarm mate but if you are still worried about it then I would advise you to buy a smaller phone which does not cost you much since you do not access your phone till evening. You can buy the smaller one with no such details to access in it while you keep your android phone at home in a safe place where only you have access to till you return home every day. With this you can have rest of mind.

I also agree with you. In addition, I would be more worried about storing the wallet, and all the data that is in the phone, from the owner himself. Does he handle his phone correctly, can't a careless surfing the Internet put different viruses on the phone that can send data to someone more versed in cryptocurrency technologies than some ordinary security guards? Usually these are people whose whole brain goes into the muscles.

Why do I want to do this?

I can't afford a hardware wallet right away and I just got a job where we are always asked to drop our phones every morning, all workers only have access to their phones after we closed at work, and that's in the evening, so many hours away.

My phone has a fingerprint lock and others but those security men I don't trust them, there is also a company PC in the office at the checkpoint, I feel they might try something with my phone and as a hot wallet user I feel unsafe.

I don't think the people who you submitted the phones to, will do anything silly to anyone's phone because they all have rules and they must be punished if anything awful occurs to a worker's phone. Also, I don't believe anyone can unlock or get access to a phone unless they know your password or are a thief in that organization, so don't be concerned. Even if a thief snatches a phone, he will never be able to unlock it. In terms of your wallet,I don't think he will be able to have access to it, he either knows the password or he restored the phone, in which case nothing will be present.

I see no reason why you should panic as there are several ways to stay safe in situations like this, and I will be listing the possible ways to stay safe while you're at work and they include:
~keeping your phone at home since the work is new and you're not sure of the security men at the gate, it will be better you keep your phone at home before going to work and possibly getting an alternate phone just incase there is a need to use a phone maybe at break time.
~Use a two factor authentication with this feature on your wallet, one wouldn't easily temper with your holdings even if they try to hack through as you might get notified.
~ Getting a smart watch this will compliment using a 2FA so as to get notified of every actions on your phone even without you holding the phone.
~ using a password it is always advisable to have a strong security on your phone at all time to avoid bridge of privacy or unauthorized access of your phone.

These are the few points I could remember now and I hope to edit to add some if I remember more.

The fact that I still run an old core 2duo CPU in my house makes me the living proof that some people still have old PCs with core 2 duo CPUs in their homes.

I also have another powerful PC with the latest Intel CPU in my house, but I use the old core 2 PC for testing networks for airdrops, while the higher end PC is used for video editing, content, and gaming.

Just because the OP cannot afford a hardware wallet doesn't mean he or she has no PC at home.

If I were OP I will uninstall the wallet from my smartphone for ease of mind, since I wrote down my recovery seed offline at home I don't have to worry when I uninstall the app clean from the phone.

I understand that one needs to be careful because there are so many tools in the world today, just because your smartphone has pin lock and fingerprint security doesn't mean there can't be a way around those.
I have some sort of similar issue as well. I have an old laptop that basically is dead, still opens up after like 10-15 minutes, but I was using that until last September and it was a crisis, it was the worst feeling in the world, I can tell you if you didn't had the brand new one, the old one would have made you crazy.

However, now that I have a good pc, the laptop is not that terrible for me, got it fixed a bit, got it cleaned and all, right now it's still terrible and wouldn't use it, but since it's a laptop and not a desktop, sometimes I take it with me to some places, and that doesn't really feel that terrible, because I know that's not my only option and I don't have to get annoyed when it doesn't react or anything, because I know I have a good one at home.

Hmmm, your case is quite strange, anyway, Hardware wallet is the best solution as you already know but Phones fingerprint security and Password security are not unworthy at all as you said you are a Hot wallet user which indicates that your funds are stored on your phone and you are not satisfied with the phone security but my dear fellow trust me if you IOS or Android latest device users as a device with Android 11 at least. There is no possible way of unlocking your phone without deleting the data inside the device (Factory Reset). I am not sure still why you are not satisfied with the security.

So dear in my view You have to be dependent on the Hot wallet until you get Harwade wallet the other solution for you is here that you can directly convert any old Android 8 or above device into cold storage I am working on that topic maybe I will post it soon haha side promotion of the topics.

I am a kind of confusing here because I know OS as an Operating System so I don't know what OS comes to do with storing of Bitcoin. It might be that it is way of storing it. Hardware is not cost to get but depending on the country you are residing. And if the country you are is not selling hardware and there is no where to get in a close by place then you have to ship it from out country which will cost extra money apart from the purchase money.

Another way I can also contribute to others who have advised you what to is that, since you don't have a backup system for the coins, I will advise you to write down the private key/ the seed phrase of the wallet for about three to four different places in your home and also do the same with the wallet password and install the wallet app or hide it with vaults so that it will be protected from third party.

If you feel that way and are not satisfied with the person you are referring to, maybe for your peace of mind don't bring your mobile device, at least this way you will be satisfied, right? That's the only day you won't use your cellphone. Can you ask that?

There are also other options because there is a tutorial on how to install the OS and flash drive, just search for it.

If you have a small amount in your mobile, let's say less than $1k, I wouldn't even worry about it.
I wouldn't call $1k a "small amount" considering that hardware wallet prices are 1/10 to 1/20 of that, not to mention the rising bitcoin price where $1k worth of bitcoin today will be worth a lot more tomorrow. Phone wallets are not the best option for storage either.

A friend of mine just bought a Trezor Model One hardware wallet for just $70 and $15 shipping, less than 1/10 of that. If we do not want to spend too much money on more advanced versions, we can buy the most basic version, they are all equally safe. No matter how many bitcoins we have, hardware wallets are still a priority. Because we may not have a lot of money to invest at the moment, but as we accumulate over time, it will definitely be worth more than a hardware wallet and not to mention an increase in the price of bitcoin.

I appreciate your keenness in keeping your coins safe but as it stands today, I have no idea of any way you can impose a wallet on a USB drive, or in any drive that is not connected to the internet for that matter. I guess you could install Electrum or a similar wallet to your USB thumb drive but that would require mad computer skills or something along that ballpark.

Also, in the case of you scared of other people snooping in your phone at work, why? Isn't your phone supposed to be to kept in your person only, and at all times? Why are you giving them the opportunity/the liberty to check your phone? That's just something I couldn't wrap my head around, with a wife or an S/O yeah sure, but with a co-worker? That's just nuts.

You haven't mentioned where you're holding your coins—in a mobile wallet, an online wallet, or a centralized exchange, perhaps? Whatever the case, I doubt that anyone could access your phone with a fingerprint scanner, unless your pin code has been exposed. If you're that paranoid, though, I'd leave my phone at home or use an older device that you may have laying around. Generally, if you want to be on the safe side, I'd recommend investing in a hardware wallet; they are quite affordable and probably the best option for holding anything worth over $1,000–$2,000.

To be on the safer side with the instance you gave, I will suggest you get a small phone if you can't do without holding any to work, then drop the one with the details at home. If it should be part of this country where I am and you are giving people suspicious acts about the phone they might eventually steal it to find out what is so special about the phone.

This is one thing about online job,it is highly risky if at the end of the day, thief's should rob you and dispossess you of your possession like phone. In this present time, your phone,or laptop is the greatest asset you can ever have because it is the main source of your income, and everything you do online is all in your phone. Therefore,it is quite good to have security code for all you do online,so that if anything should happen to it,they will be unable to unlock it and access you phone, but if you don't take it too serious and important to keep your possession safe, then there is every tendency that your properties will always get missing because of your carelessness.
Its not good to always walk with the one that is very important,it's as adviceable to atleast have atleast two phones, one for making of calls, and the other for online transaction.Keep the one you use for your transaction at home, and walk about with the one you use in making calls.

It is not that the PC should never connect to the internet because it needs internet connectivity to install the crypto wallet but rather when the USB drive is plugged into the computer it shouldn’t be connected to internet.
I think I wasn't clear enough, what I meant is you need to have one PC which never connect to the internet and one device which you used to download the wallet, so after you have download it, you send the file to your PC to create a new wallet, this make your PC is safe enough since it's never connect to the internet.

Just because the OP cannot afford a hardware wallet doesn't mean he or she has no PC at home.
Sure he might have it, but obviously he has unsecured PC where he use it for everything including for claiming an airdrop and clicking random link on telegram, discord etc.

The PC still needs internet connection to able to send out your bitcoin. The bitcoin or cryptocurrency isn’t stored on USB drive rather it is the private key and public key that is stored on it, the bitcoin is on a blockchain but needs the private key to sign a transaction. Why cold storage is just secured than the hot wallet is that during the transaction signing process the private keys are not connected to the internet server to make it vulnerable for hackers.

I have read about an OS where one can install it in a USB flash and it's a good way of storing Bitcoin if one can't afford a hardware wallet sooner, can you give me a name and also where to read the installation tutorial?

Why do I want to do this?

I can't afford a hardware wallet right away and I just got a job where we are always asked to drop our phones every morning, all workers only have access to their phones after we closed at work, and that's in the evening, so many hours away.

My phone has a fingerprint lock and others but those security men I don't trust them, there is also a company PC in the office at the checkpoint, I feel they might try something with my phone and as a hot wallet user I feel unsafe.
Yes, you can install an OS on a flash drive and use it to store bitcoin, for example, on electrum wallet (In Tails OS, this is already preinstalled in the system). But there is one caveat. Using a flash drive in this way wears out the device faster and the device may fail prematurely. Flash drives are not the most reliable storage anyway. In principle, this can be done, but you definitely need to leave wallet backups (seed phrase) so that in the event of a flash drive breakdown, you can restore access to bitcoin on another wallet or device.

I could give you links to manuals for installing an OS on a flash drive, but other users have already written enough about this in their comments. I have nothing more to add here.

Keeping bitcoin on the phone's wallets that you leave in the wrong hands, even if only for a while, is also not desirable. It’s better to be safe once again and not have what you value on your phone.

A friend of mine just bought a Trezor Model One hardware wallet for just $70 and $15 shipping, less than 1/10 of that.
it is interesting that there is a model one of trezor that only amounting 70$ and shipping fee in which yeah cheaper to consider our fund safety.
so for OP this is not that much to consider buying while he is planning for long term holding.
Quote
If we do not want to spend too much money on more advanced versions, we can buy the most basic version, they are all equally safe.
maybe the latest is more safer than old version and not equally yet it is practical to purchase and Own for starter or those who only have small amount to invest.

OS is an acronym for Operating System, and I guessed that's how he acronymate it inother to be simpler to write down. Everyone have short acronym for naming something. The Blockchain served as the motherboard for bitcoin origination and it's very important as long as cryptocurrency is in existence. Written down the private keys of the wallet in a discreet place either on your phone or paper. It's very important to note every password set because if the situation at hand is urgent, one needs to be liable to depend

Hardware wallet is best place for saving Bitcoin fund, but its not really necessary when you have option holding assets in free wallet like Trustwallet or any mobile phone wallet. I have been several years with cryptocurrencies and still not use hardware wallet for saving bitcoin, most time hold and save bitcoin in exchange account.

Don't worry if you have not enough fund with hardware wallet and still not get computer for accessing you still use trustwallet, C98 wallet, Electrum and many other kinds wallet cryptocurrency support on mobile phone. I think every one want to get more secure about wallet for saving their assets, but mobile wallet still have high secure depend on our activities access.
