I got a deal on a i5 1150 intel CPU. I was wondering what the best aftermarket Heatsink to get or am I fine with the $10 version?

I was thinking about getting this one:

are you just using it to run GPU?  are you doing to overclock?

if it's just there to run the OS for GPU mining or you do not intend to overclock, the stock heatsink fan will be fine and is low profile.

i had that zalman for a AMD x64 processor; fucking huge, but quiet.  this is a good cooler but you need more clearance in the case than you think.

Mostly GPU mining, but I may use it as a Plex Media Server. This is a PC where I'm piecing it over the next 3 weeks. Here's what I have so far

1. CPU: i5 4th gen (1150) cpu
2. M/B: ASRock H81 Pro BTC
3. Kingston 8gb ram (4x2)
4. Plastic Milk crate
5. 2 x PCI risers (ASRock Pro Kit)

I'm going to start with two GPU's (for now). Can you make a recommendation on a PSU? I see some 1000W that range from $150-400. The next phase in the purchase is GPU cards and PSU.

good power supply advice here:  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=486121

doesn't compare all available, but certainly will get you started.

if you're running two gpu and need 1000w, i guess you're picking up r9 290?  two 280x will fit in an 800/850w power supply.

i am running fractal design, antec, coolermaster, EVGA in 850-1200w range.  all these are great but since november they've been all overpriced.    i try to buy the gold rated ones because i do pay for power.  back when a good 1000w was 140-160, a gold PSU could pay for the difference in price v. bronze PSU in a year.

I'm running two GPU for now, but obviously I want room to grow in case I upgrade. I maybe rethinking which GPU dual set to buy based on investment.

Card Name (dual set)      Cost Per Card      kh per card      total kh     total cost
2x Matrix-HD7970-3gd52657101420$530
2x 59702698001600$538
R9-290X-ENFC4908841768$980

Edit: pricing is based on used - good condition, but high rated amazon merchants.
Once the 800 kh threshold is broken that's where pricing gets crazy. Thoughts?

$/mhash says to get the 7970 or the 5970 used.  elx/mhash also says get the 7970 or 5970.

if you're intending to get 290 and buy more down the line, you'll outgrow your milk crate when you need to add the second power supply.

with your first two options you will save money on the less expensive cards, and you'll also need a smaller power supply with these cards.
