It's for free advertisements, like an banner ad in any site, the higher the rank the prettier it will look ^{(depends on the design ofc)}. It can be personally yours or promoting someone else business/service.
Well, when we say promoting, ofc, it will be with a payment. Now talking to a paid signature campaign, you can see it on Services^[1] board or on this thread^[2].

Apart from casinos and mixers receiving exposure for promoting their businesses, the signature campaign could potentially influence the traffic within the forum. This could be another reason why Bitcointalk is such an interesting place for quality discussions with knowledgeable members.

Another benefit is that, at some point, there are interesting project that people wear on their signature which is quite interesting. It could be their own made bitcoin related projects that anyone can visit and learn, a list of resources and sometimes a cause for something debatable topic/ issues around bitcoinverse

The signature is a space in your profile that has a maximum amount of words it can contain depending on the member's rank, and this space allows you to advertise either a paid campaign or a charity campaign. The advantage is that it can enable a project to get exposure after putting on the signature and making some quality comments on different boards of the forum. The second advantage is that you can earn bitcoin from the signature you advertise if it's a paid campaign.

There are two kinds of paid signatures: the first one is on the Altcoins bounty board https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=238.0, and the second one is from the first link provided by PX-Z.

Signatures on the service board pay memebers with Bitcoin, while signatures from the bounty board pay memebers with either some altcoins or fiat crypto.

The disadvantage is that if you post shites, no campaign manager is going to accept you into signature on the service board, but you can be partially considered on the bounty board.

The forum used to auction ad slots^[1] which appears in the signature space of members, so that used to be a use of signature slots.

Members can also display anything on their signatures and avatars as long as it does not break the rules. You can have a personal text and avatar picture of your choosing (if you are a full member or higher) or advertise for a paid or charity campaign.
Personal texts to me are the most personal of the options.

In general, users use avatar and signature to promote certain services or project on forum, they get incentives from they activity.

However, you will also know that not all users use signature and avatar for the purpose of making money, it may serve different purposes from one user to another. Some spread awareness about their personal services like campaign management, website design and others, escrow or some other things. But I agree, avatar and signature are mostly used because users want to earn money.

Ads and promotions. Then youll get compensated by exposing these ads through process called signature campaign. Of course there are different rules on that but youll only needign to post across different threads and show that signature on your profile to make it expose to more people and thats marketing. But some uses the space too for their own business or services here. Its depend on the user how he will make use of that privilege when he got a higher rank for the signature codes and avatar.

Many Forum users wearing signatures and avatars, and some of us are wearing them because we are promoting a specific casino. But some of us are wearing because of us wearing their picture or other image as Avatar. But here in our communities as we can see that once you are wearing an avatar and signatures about casino then the owner of the casino paid for their services in order to promote.

Signatures are designed with a codified link to a specific site. Although not all are in form of link such as for the junior members which is just a written letters containing information about what's your signature. Some people use their signature space to offer promotional services for others while others use it for their personal purposes. Avatar on the other hand is in form of image under your forum username with same purpose as signature.

The main purpose of a user wearing a signature and avatar on his profile is to promote that product or casino site and earn some weekly money with it. No one will ever promote a project for free.  Allocate some budget with a project or company and run a signature campaign for their promotion.  And some qualified users are accepted to promote that company and then put signature and avatar on their profile and discuss various topics and that company gets promoted. that is the main reason of wearing signature & Avatar

There are two categories of signatures or avatar you can wear, a paid signature and avatar and a free or voluntary signature and avatar, you need to be a full member before you can wear an avatar regardless of which one, you can also wear one being a newbie by purchasing a copper membership, if you're interested in applying for a campaign on bitcointalk, you will have to read the campaign rules and regulations as stated by the manager on the first page and first post of the thread, if you meet up with the requirements then you can apply, know that participation in any signature or avatar campaign is not mandatory on this forum, it's a choice which you decide on wether to do or not.

It's pretty much about the visual representation of whatever is occupying the avatar space and in most cases compliments the signature.

And the idea of wearing these avatars is part of marketing and in some cases could boarder around a picture says a thousand words.

Btw most avatars come paired with the signature and is all about helping a project get known around the forum.

Signatures are branding belong to either an individual or some company. The forum has been designed in such a way that, users depending in there ranks have this space opened up in there profile for some showcasing or advertising. Signature space virtually becomes available once your member and from Full member, you can have your avatar space opened for you.

Avatars are simply a branding logo and it applies just as the signature except for the fact that, Avatars are images and have got no link embedded but signatures comes with links in some configured codes. The signature space one has varies based on ranks as there are acceptable number of characters within a space.

Benefits one can derive from signatures and Avatar spaces is nothing more than exposure. Now, its either you are advertising your brand or that of someone else or company and based on what is agreed, you might get paid or get incentives from referrers.

It is a campaign or advertisement. Different casinos or online gambling sites run different signature campaigns for their online campaigns. And those signature campaigns have certain signature codes and avatars that need to be added to the profile and posted in different sections. When you post a specific project's avatar or signature code in different sections, through your post, those online casinos or gambling sites will attract the attention of different users and they will enter those sites and conduct their specific activities. Basically, various projects are promoted through signature code or avatar.
